Reaper xp scaling

Hi.

To explain my confusion here: Is the scaling of reaper xp really bad at low level quests or am I missing something?

As an example:

I went into Haverdasher on R10 on my level 4 sorcerer just to try it out. At start before any monsters killed it said on the quest sheet (or xp sheet that i would gain 180+ something rxp and then it also stated that I needed to kill 10 enemies as usual). I bomb hard doing so little damage it was ridiculous. 1-3 damage per hit no matter spell, ranged or melee. and enemies did like 40-60 damage on hit.

Now I expected it should be almost impossible and I have no beef with the outcome but when I returned and did the same quest on R2 (which is usually what I try to run quests on solo, with some exceptions that are a bit harder) before any kills or anything was 150+ something rxp and here is my beef or confusion with low level rxp.

Why so little scaling of rxp for something that is that much harder, it makes no sense imo to run a low level quest on high or even mid reaper if the rxp gain is so little. With this info I see why ppl zerg low level quests on R1 because you get nothing for the work of doing higher skulls which is significantly more difficult. I would say the difference between R1 and R2 in not that noticible on low level quests if you know the game (there are situations where it becomes much noticible like if more then 1 reaper spawns in the same fight).

I tried some other lev 2 harbor quests on R4 just to see if it was worth it and although i managed to survive and finish them on R4 the extra time and planning and stuff didn't imo pay off for the little extra rxp i got from them.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong here but imo the rxp needs to scale better on low level quests (or even on all non legendary quests if this is the same on all heroic and epic quests).

Edit: Just checked the Garrison's pack quest and on R2 it was 236 rxp at start before killing and 280 rxp on R4. I don't see it beeing worth it imo to do any of these quests on anything higher then R2 unless you play in group and/or want the challange.

Mmm... I don't think there are ten mobs in Haverdasher to earn any Rxp?

Regardless, considering that most low level quests just takes a couple of minutes to do, I think that the Rxp is quite good if you calculate it per minute. Also... personally I consider the Rxp more to be a kind of bonus. For me, the regular xp is what counts when I'm trying to level as fast as possible. I prefer to challenge myself at end-game rather when doing Haverdasher.

Actually it does have 11 enemies so you do get rxp from it which is nice. I do agree that most of the quests are short or at most mid so you would get a low amount of rxp, especially if you see to the level it is too. I mean a lev 2 quest should give a lot less then a lev 15 quest.

The point I tried to make in my original post is the scaling between skulls that I find it to be very low. 30+ xp between R2 and R10 on a Lev 2 quest, even if it is a super fast quest is ridiclous. Imagine if you get a party together that are all veterans and you start new chars to get as much rxp you can as fast as you can and you are both able and villing to do R10's at low level.

Your reward is 30+ rxp for that quest, now i believe it would be a little more on a mid or long quest which there are some (like garrison's pack, kobold's new ringleader etc which is probably mid or even considered long) where you might get like 100+ rxp which is nothing compared to how the amount from level to level increases.

Now I don't say that they have to change any of this but I for one wouldn't bother on low level quests to do mid or high reapers unless I wanted the challange that comes with it.

Haverdasher has 9 regular monsters so you still need luck that at least one reaper spawns to get 10 kills and rxp.
And yes the reaper exp per time is way too low in low-level quests.

Hmm, I stand corrected. There is only 8 normal scorpions and 1 red named.

Ok, I see your point and agree... +30 Rxp for R10 compared to R2 is too low!
Well it seems that I woudn't have gotten any rxp as i didn't spawn any reaper (see top of this post). Although this 30+ rxp is only the base and would increase a bit more if you did conquest, ransack etc (i think) but still not to any extent that would make it "worth it".

Not that Haverdasher have any of those "extras" in the quest except +10% for aggression.

Just tried Garrison's missing pack on R4 on my Lev 4 Sorcerer, got a group of 4 reapers and died sp not worth the hassle imo when solo playing. I wanted to see what the end score would be when i finished the quest but it's not worth it if I can't even finish it so I'll pronanly stick to R1 or R2 for solo play, for now at least.

Edit: Base rxp before starting (just entered) was 236 rxp and when finished I got 364 rxp (with all bonuses you can get aka conquest, ransack etc. I did run a 10% xp pot and have voice aug and +4% guild xp boost and I am VIP and have a greater heroic tome on my char too. Not sure if any of these increase the rxp though.

I wish I could make it through on R4 just to see how much it would give to see the comparison but unfortunately since I finished it I won't get first run bonus.

Deliberately obtuse
It's based on base level of the quest and number of skulls and it's then also doubled for legendary level quests AND multiplied based on the quest "Length" so yes level 2 quests are not worth doing high reaper on.

Personally I enjoy testing a build by levelling it on R3-R4 but for the sake of expediency I'd say do R1 until you're at least level 12 and tackling base level 10 quests, or just get to 32 at R1 then join groups doing higher reapers and watch the reaper XP roll in.

The gains from upping the skulls in heroics, especially lower heroics, is pitiful. And the challenge has been, for me anyway, higher than the roflstomp r10 questing more or less is these days. So I'd definitely be behind more rxp from higher skulls in heroics.

But it also needs to be not so high that high reaper heroics doesn't become the new normal, I don't think that'd be good for the game either. Still, there should be room for improvement without going too high.

Yeah I do agree with you here. I will still do reaper since even 100-300 rxp is still 100-300 rxp. As for legendary I agree there too, R1-2 solo and R4-6 in parties is my sweet spot for most of my chars (only have 12 reaper points on the one that has most so).

The sad part is that I have 39 chars and about 10-12 is active at any given time so I switch between them a lot depending on what I want to play and since they vary in Level too it depends on what quests I want to run etc. About 2-4 of them are maxed on xp aka doing legendary but to be honest I don't play them that much since I don't enjoy playing on Legendary except for the occasional raid now and then.

I like the levelling or the accumulation of xp and since you're maxed out you don't get any xp. Sure you get rxp but the amount of difficulty that is added (or rather hitpoints to mobs) makes the legendary quests less fun imo because they take a too big effort to play through even on R1.

I know it soulds like I just want the easy street that is heroics and epics to some extent and maybe I do. I don't play the game for the "challange" but for the joy. The joy of levelling and getting named/good gear and such. I don't need the game to be challanging on normal - R1. After R1 I'd like the real challnges to begin so for those times you do want some challange you can have it or for when you find some ppl to run a chain with or something.

Why do I want it "easy" up ti R1, well so I can still get some reaper points. There is no incentive to run legendary quests on anything other then reaper if you are at mac xp unless you farm for a piece of gear and even then you might want to do reaper to have the chance of getting reaper extras on them.

This is just me though and others may dissagree and I understand. No need to discuss that topic here because I have had it on so many different posts already.

The lion's share of reaper XP to be earned in the game is in legendary quests where you earn twice as much. When you're leveling up, there are some quests that have some decent RXP, like running Gianthold on mid-skulls. Otherwise you're better off just zooming through your levels to get to legendary content.

Running R10 in heroic levels is something you do for a personal achievement, not as a way to maximize your RXP gain. With XP pots, ship buff, Master's Gift and an experience tome you can earn about 80k RXP leveling 1-20 just doing R1 difficulty. The first time bonus in a single legendary quest is about 10k RXP. That's by design.

You do not do lowbie quests on reaper for reaper XP.

But doing lowbie quests on reaper gives more quest XP than doing them on elite. So you do them on R1 or R2 for more quest XP to level faster.

This is true. But I wish it was a little less true.

Doing high reaper heroics felt punishing, but the reward in rxp was not remotely worth it.

I'm not trying to replace legendary runs as the best rxp. But I do think there's still room to give a little more rxp to low level quests on higher reaper. So that zerging r1-4 isn't the only option ever considered while running heroics. I would love it if high reaper heroics were at least a little bit rewarded, so when you do it, you don't feel completely like an idiot.*

*Only 80% would be fine.

The basic formula for reaper XP is something like;

RXP = 50 + 3 x Base Quest Level (doubled if 30+) x Reaper Level

That is then modified by most of the same factors as normal quest xp (e.g. length multiplier, stealth/conquest bonus, disabling traps, finding secret doors, first time playing on current life, airship buff, VIP boost, Exp elixir, heroic inspiration, et cetera), but not quest optional objectives, delving bonus, or tome of learning bonus.

The upshot being... reaper level is a straight multiplier. If the rxp for completing a quest on R1 is 75 then the rxp for completing it (the same way) on R10 will be 750. As such, if you can (for example) run quests at R5 in less than half the time that R10 takes (e.g. by having the group split up), you may actually be able to earn reaper XP faster by running at a lower reaper level.

This is what my group has found in most cases. After reincarnating, we run R1 to get up to 30th level and then all the 30+ quests at whatever reaper level allows our current builds to breeze through w/o slowing down. Usually around R4. We only run R8+ when we are looking for reaper bonuses on specific items that drop in that quest.

It is funny that reaper was introduced ( at the begining ) as a way to give some challenge to those that are at cap, yet in the end running r10 quests at 32 is the fastest, most optimal and easier way to farm rxp ( to make them even easier ) and running it at level 4 is for pure challenge...

The design was flawed from the start

I agree with what others have said. Doing high skull in heroics is more of a personal achievement. The rxp gained vs. Time spent it's really not worth it if your goal is rxp/min. Zoom through heroics and even epics until you get the sweet bonus in legendary. Of course, if you see GH on r4 or something, don't skip out cause those are easier quests. Every little bit helps, but if efficency is the goal, legendary is where it's at.

I know some folks that run statics on R7+ heroics for the extra challenge. It's probably because under R7, the deciding factor on XP rate is runspeed, not build or player skill.

For myself, I only run heroics on R1. The RXP is simply too low to bother playing higher and I want to get out of heroics ASAP so I can play the parts of the game that are actually fun. R4+ in epics pre-cap. R6~10 @ cap, depending on LFMs.
