Red augments on weapon question

Hello,

I was wondering what is generally better at, say a level 30 weapon: a 8d6 or 9d6 ruby of shock or a Ruby eye of storm with 2% proc?

The 8 or 9d6 ruby will *vastly* outperform the ruby eyes.

Ruby eye of tempest deals 1d20 per weapon ML. So on a lvl 30 weapon, it would deal 30d20 for an average of 315. With a 2% proc rate, that's an average of 6.3 per hit.

An 8d6 ruby will deal an average of 28 per hit (more than 4 times as much).

If you're willing to farm a bit, The Eye of Dolurrh is probably the best straight dps augment.

Is Eye of Dolurrh unholy/cause negative level for a good character? The page says so but the item insert graphic does not.

Guaranteed shock (because it's per hit), IMO, unless the weapon already has some type of guaranteed/extra damage

If it's a named item, go for the 2% chance assuming it's a ML30+ weapon. It's beautiful when they proc
...but the monsters have SO many hit points at that level..

Evil damage is...for reasons passing human understanding...different than Unholy. Unholy weapons give negative levels to good aligned characters. Evil weapons do not. Don't try to make sense of it, you will never succeed.

The good news is that while Unholy only works on good aligned monsters (of which there are not many at all), Evil works on basically everything. I think it's just Iron and Clay golems that take reduced damage. Everything else gets blasted.

Kobold hate you and will never implement evil damage, though evil exists, because SSG is LAZY or DnD is.

All the Ruby Eye's are bad for strict dps at any level. They are however pretty cool and fun and it's not like the elemental dmg is that good.

The Meteoric Star Ruby however has an AoE knock down effect (DC20 + weaponlevel). It is quite useful in mid/old heroic content.
I love using it on a repeater crossbow.

The nD6 damage augments are allright in heroics but insignificant later.

For epic content and higher always go for DR breaking augments. When you bypass Adamantine, Good or Silver DR it will vastly outweigh the elemental damage the augments would do.
