I would assume they buy something from you off the auction house. You pay them money up front, then post a worthless item for 15,000 shards, and they buy it.

It’s a system that relies heavily on trust, in an exchange where you’re dealing with cheaters and thieves.

Im pretty sure its real (had people telling me about it but I have zero interest in it so know no further than that), and there was a market for cash sales of duped items on Argo. Which makes me think that it is still going on now on Thrane.
