Resurrect Gary Gygax with AI

Maybe it is silly to ask, but you have Gary Gygax's voice recorded, how about using the new voice generation AI to at least bring his voice back to DM new dungeons. I can't think of a better way to memorialize Gary and all he did for love of the game.

and while you are at it, isn't it about time we got real spears and tridents instead of staffs that look like spears and tridents? Would the spear/shield animation be that hard?

oh, and how about fixing the game client community link going to http://maintenance.daybreakgames.com/ and not here.

ok, another forum lawyer... even if they didn't contact his widow for permission....

it depends on the contract, derivative works, and laws yet to be written...

"New York (as well as California) do not provide protection after death of the Individual for an AI Work that is for entertainment, such as a movie, so anyone could use James Earl Jones voice in another movie without permission after his death in a jurisdiction that follows the Domicile Rule."

And SSG is in Boston, I'm sure they want to pay for the lawyers to test the waters on that one...

It's not just the legality, it's disrespectful to go parading a facsimile of someone after their death.
If someone expressed their wish for their likeness to be reproduced and used it's one thing but it's doubtful there's any such thing considering Gygax died long before AI impersonation reached this level.

Please no !
Even if the AI would get his voice right, it would not carry over his passion.
And for me as a player, knowing that it´s not really him, the narration wouldn´t give me anything.

I do now want to see this myself, with anyone for that matter. I'd rather they get Ed Greenwood or Keith Baker to do more DM work.

IMHO, even if the AI got Gary Gygax's voice right, and assuming the AI can DM a DDO dungeon based on SSG's internal tool and maps; the AI can never get Gary Gygax's spirit right, as AI has no imagination based on different party members and no GG's spirit.

What if there is a Japanese robotic factory or Boston Dynamics creates a robot, put on a Gary Gygax mask and DM a dungeon... I don't know, this maybe happening in the next 10 years. If this happens, we probably won't be playing DDO, but playing with the Gary Gygax robot on a tabletop, wouldn't we? If that's happening, I vote for the robot to patch-able, so that I can upgrade his voice, actually I would make a lady DM with a nice voice.

Personally, I do not like his voice overs, I like his passion for games though.

nein on Gary AI

Maybe they could listen to who they have narrate as well, before hiring them... there's a few I like, but there are some sorry ones too. It's not that they are bad; but they should draw your attention to the dialogue and make you want to hear them over and over again; and many used in the past do not.

Gary was not great with narration, but he was good, and he did grab your attention/I'd rate delera's an A- or B+

It is just more weaksauce hollywood theatrics, remaking old things because all their new things suck.

I and a number of people I know all permanently turned off DM voiceover after Delera's. I get the nostalgia, but the quality left much to be desired.

Oh gods no. Just let him stay dead - he has done enough for us. This is a classic case of "just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD".

Well, lets consider the amount of bugs still inherent in the game, and then ask yourself if you really want the dev team to try and make a real ai to interact with this game in any way. . .

Oh HELL NO! Last we need is like a Skynet version of a DM!

And to the OP of this topic, the idea sounds cool at first but unless Gygax said in his will that was okay to do it is not a cool thing to create.
Feel free to call me or the others on here a forum lawyer.
