Returning Player Question

Hey there!

I play DDO occasionally and returned after a year now.
I played only on Orien and I see the server now gets closed, or is at least a ghost server now.
If I were to transfer with my main character where should I transfer to?
I play from europe, but old europe servers (If I remember correctly) were extremely empty compared to some others like Orien.

So my questions are:
Is one of the 3 servers more populated than the others?
How populated / playable is it on EU - Moonsea?
How are the lag spikes and rubberbanding on the 3 64bit servers now? I played mostly alone, but those were pretty hard sometimes.

Cheers!

DDO Audit has stats on how populated the different servers are.

Moonsea is less populated than the US servers, but way more populated than Wayfinder was. It sounds like that will likely be your best bet. Also, being a bit less busy than the US servers is an advantage right now, as Thrane and Shadowdale have had some lag during primetime.

Right now the 2 most unreliable servers are Thrane and Shadowdale.

Moonsea server is located in the EU, but has a pretty large playerbase. At the moment, the slightly lower playerbase (still more players than Orien had, I think) Moonsea has compared to the US servers works well since we don't have quite as bad lag as those.... usually.

In general, shadowdale is the most populated, with thrane close behind. Moonsea is busy at weirdo EU hours. Cormyr is the runt of the server litter, and is usually a fair chunk behind in pop.

Definitely lag on Sd/thrane, but I don't think it's specifically because of big population. People get crippling lag at 3am and at primetime. It's not HELPING anything lol, but not a good reason to go to a less busy server.

Hopefully they'll be able to keep fixing the lag...it was much much worse when the new 64bit servers first came out. I remember 5-10 min batches of horrible lag. Now, it's more of a 30-60 sec thing when it pops up.

Short story: choose Moonsea. Long story: if you like to complain, have excuses why died, etc choose: Thrane it Shadowdale. Finally, Cormyr is also a solid option if you like playing at US hours.

I personally okay at all 4 servers!

moonsea will be the closest server to your location and have the lowest ping client to server timing so any lag resulting from high ping should be eliminated

Thank you for all the replies!
Moonsea it is. I had surprisingly no problem with the very fast transfer, as I read that many many peoples chars are still lost in limbo

When it works it works really fast. But the big problem here is that devs said cs will be fixing stuck characters and cs now says they can't/won't. They are not communicating what they are doing IF they are actually doing anything to fix these issues.

In other words, is either works (95% maybe more of the times) or good luck if it doesn't.
This is like an AI doing classification 🤣.
