Returning player - Why slayer zones are still so unnecessarily huge?!?

So that's what's grinding your gears!?
not e.g.:
  • lack of incentive to explore wilderness (rare's are grind not exploration)
  • doing ETR followed by TR forces you to arbitrarily level 1-20.
  • BTC items filling up character bank
  • having to move your entire character bank item by item each life (BTC items)
  • Air jets 3-stage lag
  • lag eating inputs
  • some spells only triggering graphics and not damage until pressed again (despite being on CD)
  • oh and lag
  • non-scalable UI for Character and Inventory window, despite having scalable UI in other places
  • bridges spawning with no collider
  • trigger zones not being active
  • and so on
  • and so on
Being "forced" to moved to a quest can be annoying (yes Times Long Past I'm looking at you) but is not an issue IMO since that is part of what the game is. In my eyes things take time so unexpected stuff can occur (in theory) to give a slight nod to classic campaign feel.

Not saying many wilderness's couldn't be improved a lot in various way, just that skipping them is not really a good solution. IoD was done well with unlocking guides gradually similar to GH. RL is very nice but the TP'ing kinda just removes the wilderness, call it optional if you will but noone will ever run anywhere if there's a tp.

I agree with the op. Not being able to port to the quests is just totally wasting time. I did way too much slayer area when I first started here and its no fun anymore. I know people like wilderness areas and I think they should always put them in an expansion but to me they"re just an annoyance.

I often forget RL even has a wilderness, and I couldn't point you to a quest location on a map if my life depended on it, or describe what the Blue Water Inn looks like from the outside.

Agreed. Why is Ravenloft still played. Especially for groups.
Because the loot is still relevant, the xp is good, and many / most people have it by this point after multiple deep discounts. The same is true for something like IOD - loot is good, xp is good, and many people got it during the Year of the Dragon promotion. I see full groups doing the IOD saga all the time, and the fact that you may have to run 30~60 seconds to a quest changes nothing.

If anything, I regularly also see groups doing rares and / or slayers in IOD, unlike Barovia, because there's incentive to do so.

I could imagine some sort of solution in the lines of keeping wilderness (and the running) as is and instead add a "party guide" with the option to port to quest entrance if a party member is already inside.
That would alleviate a lot of the pain while still keeping the original design somewhat intact.

Or they could add Bracelet of Friends (-like) as an actual game mechanic that is possible to earn / purchase in-game rather than as a store-exclusive item with limited charges that few people use.

I love the explorer areas - they are immersive, lend to the quest lines and have some great stories.

It is like reading a good story to journey to the quest.

I realize - as reflected in some of the posts - it is not for everyone. Some people just want to jump to half way thru the book. I believe DDO has been reasonably accommodating for this - from mounts to teleport options.

I do believe if they fixed the "Bracelet of Friends" to allow players to be teleported to quests entrances after joining a party it would be ideal.

:)

The best way for the game to deal with this would be to set up every wilderness area like they did Ravenloft:

All the players who want to explore and do slayers would be happy.
All the players who want to just go to the quest would be happy.
All the players who sometimes want to do slayers and explorers and sometimes just want to go to the quest would be happy.

Why in 2025 when we're getting older, we have less time for gaming, more kids, more work more everything!
Why do we not have teleports for kings forest
Why do i have to go and find Sschind f*** portal
Why MD slayer zone is so big and stupidly designed to the point people are arguing what way should you go and someone is made you didnt start in Quran quest!!
Why every slayer except for Ravenloft and its Guide just SUCK!
(and why do you guys not talk about this? why you accept it?)

Why do i need to spend so much time galloping (thank god for mounts) on my horse (TO PLACES I KNOW TOO WELL HOW TO GET TO) every life in a game that incentivizes you to reincarnate multiple times and to repeat this process many times.
its 2025, its not cool to force it on people. i get why its nice to have, to go by foot if you want and to explore the slayer zones, but dont make me do it for 100+ lives that im gonna play, this is so bad, i hate it and everyone is just tired with that type of ********.
Im trying to avoid it but it sucks, some of the quests i really like, some of the quests are part of very good sagas, some flag you for raids (CITW).

Give us guides similarly to Ravenloft, stop forcing us to spend so much time not fighting, leave it as an option if u want to give people the chance to explore.
make rare encounters more significant if you want people to explore, find a way to make it worth the time, so far its just an unnecessary chore that really just make me not want to play this game.

Would love to hear your opinions, i just came back from a big break, i've played games and it made me come back smarter and not take things for granted.
i feel like this community is so used to this stupid ******** that it is just never mentioned, and it doesnt have to be that way, not in a game that people pay 100+ USD for some expansion packs, and in a game that has such a loyal playerbase,

Demand what you think needs to change, make some noise, do something!

P.S:
10 SECONDS FOR RECALL IS STUPID, 10 sec x ~200 quests = 2000 sec = over 30 minutes on recalling every past life.
it feels so stupid to do quests in harbor and just have to.... stand-still!
THIS IS NOT EXCITING and this is not exciting that every tiny thing u do (including pressing alt tab because its the button for a rune arm **YOU CANT EVEN WEAR**) stops u from recalling! at least let me alt-tab and do something good with these 10 seconds.

that's it, that was my rant.
I hope i can find some agreement here, i hope this can maybe get to the "people in charge" because this is just unacceptable, and if i quit again that would be one of the more significant reasons. respect our time, give us choice,
sorry for my bad English, not my native language :)
LOL we talk about it all the time. There's people that quit the game because the new xpack specifically didn't have those things you just mentioned.

Is there anyone that still want an RPG including an environment or would everyone prefer a waiting room where you just select what quest you want to run.
The issue many have is that pots tick down in wilderness areas.

SSG's best financial but worst gameplay decision ever was to include timed xp/loot boost potions.

I'm still bothered by the fact that after spending all my spell points exploring the wilderness area simply GOING to a quest, my spell points are STILL gone when I enter the quest. Please refresh our SP when entering quests.

Wilderness areas seem bigger to me when I am unfamiliar with them or when you need to catch up with total strangers to a quest. Other than that its okay to explore on your off times.. kind of like what adventurers are supposed to do. More so when you dont check the wiki for rares and such and find them on your own.

The main problem I have with slayers is all of them but orchard have the 7500 mobs you need to kill to clear the place spread out miles and miles appart. Oh here is three guys by the entrance. Trudge for five minutes. Oh here is another two. Go and walk halfway across the map ooh here is one hiding behind a tree! that's 6 of 7500 and only took me a half hour!

So you are "EVERYONE"? You don't want them to cater to everyone...you want them to cater to you. That's not going to happen.
He says in the post you quoted that his ideal is Ravenloft, with both a large wilderness and teleporters to quests. How is that catering only to him? Does the presence of teleporters preclude one's ability run around a wilderness if they so choose?

I am trying to think of a wilderness area that it would take more than 2 minutes to get to a quest entrance. Is it the 2 minutes that is the concern?
