Revamp Sentient Weapons?

More lines would be great.

Personally I'd like to see a system where the various upgrades are more about improving the weapon itself and not the character holding the weapon.

Think about it. How many individual filigrees directly modify how much damage a specific weapon does? Very, very few. vs. how many that give stat and skill bumps to the player holding it? Virtually all? Is that how a sentient weapon is supposed to operate? Seems like it should want its own power and prestige enhanced.

Now that I've thought about this some more, I've realised that Rabidfox's suggestion for decoupling sentient gems and weapons would make swapping more cumbersome in some situations.

For example, if you have weapon and jewel combinations you need to use together swapping between them would now require two keypresses instead of one. It doesn't sound like much but when you do it frequently it adds up and when the keypresses don't always register it introduces another level of possible failure to using the controls.

So I think the system we have now might be better, for some of us anyway. I'd rather have the restrictions the current system has than having to press keys twice every time my rogue wants to switch to his assassination set and back again.

We're likely missing sentient item lag at this point. Based on the current DDO paradigm incoming sentient sentient weapon changes...

So, instead of things like Fey shenannigans, how about you spend time and effort redesigning how sentient items work so that they are like they are supposed to be?

You know, where instead of annoying voices, a handful of tiresome lines, and a ton of grinding, they have their own Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores, alignments, personalities and goals that might conflict with the character's?
No. This is dumb.

I don't work for SSG- I pay their bills.

In PnP Sentient weapons could potentially take over player characters to the parties detriment. Is that what you want for DDO? Because AI run PCs turning on the parties in quests/raids would be SO epic!. . .
