Regarding my previous confusion about the coupon code: I have cracked it. It has nothing to do with normal coupon codes you put in as you buy things. You type the code into the REDEEM CODE section of the DDO in game store. Then click on the 'wrapped gift' symbol next to the section. Its not just a helpful signpointer, it is a button. This will give the character you are on the free gift, regardless whether you have bought anything. Only one redemption is possible per account.

I am posting this for every new player like me who feels like they run into a dozen incomprehensible and unexplained facets to DDO and have limited success asking for help or googling. My thanks to everyone who has ever put explanations online because I would have quit long before without googling constantly and finding whoever was the last person to answer the same question I'm looking for!😵‍💫
