Server transfer is way too expensive!

2500 DDO Points is overkill. There's no reason for a stable service that function for years to be that expensive.
I'll even push it and say it should be free. But ok ok, it's a company that should make money yada yada, I get it. But I believe that making this service cheaper (or even free) will benefit both us and SSG.
People should be able to rotate freely (or cheaply), doing server tour of some sort, it'll make the community stronger, we'll be able to make friends server wide.
Some players are tired of running with the same people over and over, it'll spies thing up and we'll all benefit from it.
It can be made like the tree reset - with every transfer the fee increases, and decay over time. Maybe add free/sale events from time to time.
There are plenty and even endless options for this to function properly. But the price should definitely go down.

Bottom line / tl;dr: Server transfer is way too expensive and should be way cheaper or even free.

It would be nice for them to at least make it free or free certain parts of the year or even include it be free if you pay to be VIP so it could be a little more worthy and fair for players or perhaps newer players. who want to tag along.

I think it's a fair price. Server transfer is tricky business and should only be a last resort. You don't want large amounts of people switch server over and over again. If you look at other games like WoW it's about 25-30 bucks too. And you can always create a new character and play on another server. Keep it a Premium service and not a cheap option.

Many things are way too expensive in this game IMHO. I often look at prices and think ' that's exploitative and it's going to put new players off' and leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth when I think of newbies checking the game out.
I think it's causing harm to the game.

It's a bargain. For 2500 DDO points, you lose your TR cache, leave behind guild ship, mounts and pets, and your Monster Manual gets bugged. What's not to like?
In seriousness, this could be why it's that much. I'm sure they get support tickets when most people do this.

Leaving a problem in game and increasing the cost to experience it in an attempt to discourage people from buying it / complaining about it so they don't have to fix anything (with the off chance of a chunk of cash going their way to boot) is the most SSG thing I've ever heard.

Noted.
If they will lower the price we'll ask to keep it the same for you. ^_^

Tons of transfers from HC. Also everything went pretty well with the free transfer wave months ago.
I also thought its a complicated service (In the past I even thought they did those manually lol).
But it's been a regular process in the last years especially since HC came along.
Us programmers tend to be lazy, we implement tweaks and tricks for routine processes to make our lives easier. Pretty pretty sure its a maintained service by now.

Business 101 demand dictates price. Sometimes when I go to a store to buy a shirt I like, and it is priced out of my budget I just don't buy it until it is on sale, or I just buy another shirt.

2500 DDO points is really not an unreasonable price to pay for a server transfer. There is some back-end work thgat needs to be done to transfer 1 or more characters. Transferring your character is a luxury so a convience fee is certainly understandable. Not everything or service a business provides should be free, they have to make money. I for one believe that SSG is doing a great job with the game I love.

Server transfer cost is one of the more reasonable things compared to some of the other stuff in there when put up against other games or just common sense.

A more egregious example imo is iconic races and +1 hearts of wood. Hearts in particular are some highway robbery. And jewelers kits. Holy guacamole. Basic functionality locked behind a paywall and VIP doesn't do away with.

I love the +1 weapons for 150 DDO points. Geesh! And some of the holiday stuff that is no longer valid like the insta port to the jump ramp for Risa festival. Why are things like this still in the store. It strikes me of shady Goblin merchant tactics. :p

I agree that other things, like you mention, are even more cash-grabby. But at least they don't (normally...) break stuff for you.

Oh, did I ever mention my broken Monster Manual after transfer? I'm sure it's been at least five minutes since I mentioned that :p

Yeah, unless they let players take their ships/guilds (if owner), AS, Mounts, Pets, other server bound items, and fix the MM bug, I would never even consider transferring. Too much of a loss (on top of the ddo points they ask for) to even consider a casual change of scenery or new people to play with multiple times. Server bound features are too much of a dealbreaker.

I am one of those new players, well a little over 2 months now... but the state of the game I have seen since I have started makes one consider just uninstalling even when I am enjoying the game... there are just to many negatives to consider as my leveling experience goes further. I had brought 10 people over with me and I am the only one here still.. and last weeks game breaking patch is just making me consider joining my friends again.
This game has very serious potential and I could see if it the devs or whomever is in charged would do something like what FFXIV did originally.. I was part of alpha and beta team all the way until they nuked the whole original game.... I alpha and beta tested FFXIV realm reborn... 2 very different ways to see the same game..... Now jump to today.. FFXIV is by far one of the best MMO's on market, if the people behind this game would just take the state of game they want to showcase and ACTUALLY get new players, something on those lines will need to be done.. I am speaking from experience in MMOs, muds, and a tester for over 35 years.
With todays newest toolsets from UR5, Unity etc, the have a wide range of open paths they could take. I have been messing around with Unity and the UR5 setups, the AI in Unreal would really help this game, write code faster, better engine , and ability to xplatform and better graphic, faster development time and less bugs. I am just throwing my 2cents in this from a new player's view..
