Severlin Said In Discord...

Some (not all) things Severlin said today (11/15) in the DDO Discord --

On Cormyr:
"Good morning. We are seeing a decent night for Cormyr, with only 1 lag spike alarm on our end after the patch. Although I expect more this weekend. We have some more substantial lag fixes coming next week, but how was the night?

We are still working on the mount fix for Cormyr. We have code that prevents it we are testing, but are working on the code to restore."

On Orien:
"Orien was rougher last night in alarms than we would like, but we will see after next week's fixes. Eventually we want people on 64 bit servers.
But the lag fixes seemed to help.
It's not the weekend, though, so yeah.

One of the engineers was going over the fixes they are working on for next week and showing the before and after and it was pretty exciting. Plus we have master server optimizations in the wings.
But also Orien got extra hardware yesterday as well."

On Getting Mists Mount on Other Servers:
"I think there's a bug that turning on the vendor also turns on the event and that is something that needs to get patched in?"

On Transfers off Cormyr:
"There is no reason why we can't eventually have normal transfers off (but not on) Cormyr. I pictured Cormyr as a permanent server and wasn't planning on having the free large scale transfers off like Hardcore because it isn't meant to be a temporary server, but I will discuss with the team."

On Transfers to Other 64-bit Servers:
"I can't answer that until we have a Cormyr server that is far and away better in terms of lag and we can justify the large hardware expense. If next week goes well and we feel that the performance improvement is there then the plan would be to open up new 64 bit servers with transfer enabled, sometime in Spring? (edited)
No promises."

Severlin commented on some other things like chat logging, someone's connection issues, and a player's bug in House of Death Undone, but I felt like these were most pertinent to what I've seen people discussing on the forums.

OP: DId you type that or did AI? I'd rather the a/v link tyvm; if not AI, you must be a beast of a typist... uh, yeah... I applaud your effort!

if you were going to make up a bunch of text why would AI even be needed?

Good stuff. Vague vague vague. No timeline.

Hope it works!
It is the same as an if then statement in programming. You have to wait for what happens before the next action takes place. The exact same thing is would you please tell us the play time, rewards and levels you will gain for the next 7 days, please be as accurate as possible and do follow-up report on how accurate you forecaste was. (This will be judge against you,)

Just go to the DDO Discord and search for Severlin. Then you can see for yourself that the OP is infact correct.

Hopefully the fixes next week will not be even more duds.

Would be nice if the owner of a Discord server (In this case SSG) could implement a process that copied certain users messages to an external file.

Discord doesn't support it, and I can see how the devs may not want to spend time effectively saying the same thing twice by cross posting.

Sure ? No play at all. No levels. I guarantee 100% accuracy.

And it’s not the same, this is “if nothing explicitly stated, then … something “

You could at least say the nothing explicitly stated part.

Thanks for the info!

Also please forgive me regarding Orien. I went full purple in more than one challenge on 2 computers during the event and made a bunch of augments. You can hit purple DA in the several of them challenges when you have limited play time and a village to feed.

I just cut and pasted what Severlin said. @rabidfox has screen capped posts before, but I'm not good with photo editing, and if you try to link to a specific post it won't show you the content of the post, it will just look like a link and clicking on it will attempt open it in Discord, so if you don't have Discord or the server the link is from you're out of luck in most cases.

An example of trying to link to one of Sev's messages: https://discord.com/channels/1253053520488300626/1271149001063792690/1307092912995303534

If the formatting looks a little wonky, it's because I tried to keep each post together as he put them up, and so sometimes he'd post paragraph style and other times just a few words as a follow-up to his previous post. The paragraph breaks are where he commented on the same subject just later and after others had posted responses to his posts. (I cut out the timestamps bur probably should have kept them in to further clarify when each statement was made.)

It was just easier to do it this way, and a lot of it is stuff I figured people would be interested in reading.

Improvements in Cormyr

Even though the work is far from finished, I feel there has been noticeable improvement in Cormyr.

Transfers to Cormyr

I see no valid reason why transfers to Cormyr should not be allowed. Fortunately, there is no competition between players (such as leaderboards), so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t receive lantern rewards even on a fully completionist character. Sure its much easier with a full completionist to earn such rewards but on the other hand a player who has that advantage worked hard for it (or payed a lot)

Account-Based Progression

I continue to believe that account-based progression would be much better and would make playing alts a real and enjoyable option again. Of course, it’s crucial to provide enough content for players to stay engaged, but I don’t think this would be particularly difficult to implement.

Here are some examples of what SSG could maybe do:

  1. Hitpoints for unused Reaper AP
    • Award 1 HP (Hitpoint) for each unused Reaper AP, with a hard cap (e.g., at 300).
  2. Generic Past Lives
    • Once a player has completed all past lives, SSG could introduce generic past lives that award 1–2 HP per ER/TR, capped at 100.
  3. Additional Spell Point Pool
    • Expanding the SP (Spell Point) pool could also be a viable option.

Additional Ideas

I also have other suggestions for past lives and am confident that developers wouldn’t run out of ideas if they made a serious effort.

Conclusion: Why Account-Based Progression Makes Sense

In my opinion, there is no compelling reason not to adopt account-based progression. This should be part of a larger concept to make DDO more account-focused, placing greater emphasis on the player and customer experience.
And I still think it would be a win-win for SSG and the players, SSG would sell more because players have more to buy for additional characters and players who have additional characters have much more flexibility without the feeling they "waste" their precious play time on alts while they could improve there so-called "mains"

Suggestions for Further Improvements

  • Account-Based Cosmetics
    • Cosmetics could be made accessible via a dedicated UI.
  • Hireling “Stable”
    • Introduce a system to store permanent hirelings in a manner similar to mounts.
