Short Question to Essence Crafting

Hello,
I thought that if you deconstruct/dissolve an item you should get a tiny amount of platinum, not lose it.
I re-started using the deconstruct function now that i needed to earn a bit more essences and was irritated that the money number shown in the window was taken away from me and not granted. Because i think i remember a discussion years ago that mentioned, that you receive a tiny amount of money through decrafting to offset the loss compared to just selling the item. Not World-ending but strange.
Can someone remember if, in the past, we received a little bit of platinum when we deconstructed? Was that change somewhere announced? Is the reduction just a bug?

With regards

It was updated recently. We got a QoL upgrade to the user interface that makes crunching a lot faster and less annoying and with that update crunching items was also changed to cost rather than provide platinum.

The UI change is great and even the platinum change I consider to be a good change in the longterm - platinum is plentiful with few sinks in the game. But I can understand why some people dislike the change especially if they play in a way that doesn't generate much platinum such as focusing mostly on the lower end of the level range.

Yes, it was changed past month. New decon it's a lot cleaner and faster, but the costing on plat is slightly annoying.

I like a lot the new interface so i guess ok.

I get minimal platinum when I dissolve but I don't think I get anything when I disjunct

I didn't notice that, that sort of blows, then what's the point of having to buy materials if we have to pay to dissolve as well.
My take on it all is someone on the team doesn't like essence crafting. This move will mostly discourage new players from crafting, imo. I'm holding off on dissolving for a while to get some plat up.

...and yes, I've read all the "it doesn't cost that much" comments. To a newer player short on plat, the investment in essences is signifivant.

Yeah, I had a near max level crafter before they raised it. I always liked the system, super useful for leveling gear.

The entry for newer players has gotten butchered with this change. Whereas I've got 5 alts and have to find creative ways to keep them all under plat cap, most newer players probably dont have 20 milllion+ plat burning a hole in their pocket.

They removed getting plat from deconning.....don't agree with it, but ok fine.

But the plat tax on gaining essence is unreal now. It should cost how much a dissolver used to cost and thats all if they insist on a tax on crafting.

The system as it is now is DOA for newer players. And that's a shame, because it's very helpful, ESPECIALLY for newer players. Square that circle.

I remember when it first started. People were complaining that they made more selling and wouldn't even try the crafting. So, yes, this is exactly why the plat reward is there, to entice people into the system. But the game has changed. Back then they wanted people to try this new system. Now, I don't think the devs hate the crafting, they just don't really care too much if you use it. I am really surprised they took the time to make any changes at all. Most of the ingredients take way to long to farm for very mediocre equipment. And now it costs instead of rewards you to deconstruct. They just don't care. Making it harder to destroy an item you wanted to deconstruct is the best change to the system in my opinion. A few of the higher level multi buffs are useful, but it is still a system that takes too much time and energy for most people. Which is a shame.

I used to get 90% of my platinum from dissolving items before the change. Currently I am balancing between "Do I need Platinum" or "Do I need more Essence". I currently have 55 mil platinum spread across my toons and 200K Magic Item Essence and I am gain Platinum right now since I am working on my bank guilds. As things get accomplished I will shift between the 2 for what is needed. I like the current system way more since I have been able to dissolve 85 items at a time which is a huge time save for me.

ya whos idea was it to charge platt for dissolving item rewards? the guy with tons of platt and nothing to spend it on. maybe if he played hardcore server he would remember the platt levels again but then he dont like hardcore server cause its too limiting. so you get this... how about lifting the cap on how much platt you can give/trade to other players? no we will charge everyone minuscule amounts of platt so its more difficult and time sink for new players to craft. not bad enough to have to build up crafting materials but lets prolong the process for new players

It seemed that way for a few years, but they just did a major update so hopefully everyone is on board with it being a good thing. It's more likely they realize there is too much plat in the game and they wanted another plat sink and to reduce incoming plat.

There are many people overflowing with plat so if you ever need, it just sell some solar/lunar augments, essences or collectibles and you will get millions.

The way I look at it, it's much easier to crunch items now and if I ever need plat I can easily get it on the auction stuff selling a few things I am overflowing with.

You make a good point.
Crafting is especially good for new players. It is fun and quickly raises character performance which is very much needed to tag along the standard r1 scene. This gameplay experience should ideally be encouraged. Making the crafting cost money, even if it turns out to be a neglectable amount after a while, may still deter people of trying it in the first place.

I still think this is the better way to go as a light platinum sink especially with the fast UI. But i would create other ways and hints to encourage newer players to try crafting.

I'm relatively new, I don't have loads of pp.
I'm focusing on crafting having a near 400lvl crafter. So all high level items go for dissolve.
Before the change I could notice my pp to gradually grow even if I wasn't selling. Now it seems I get to not earn pp or the gems etc don't really cover up the repair and dissolve costs.

While I don't really mind the paying for dissolve, I do think that early on pp is hard to get. All my toons that I start from 0 really have a hard time to get bags, buy something from AH etc.

That I think could be solved if they increased a bit the value of gems at low levels.

Then a 1st lifer would be able to dissolve instead of sell from early in the game.
