What am I missing? A 20 CT range goes 19-20. So, how does a 19-20 only go 18-20 CT range instead of 17-20?
This feat adds 1, 2, or 3 to critical threat range based on the weapon type's unmodified threat range.
- +3 for falchion, great crossbow, kukri, rapier, and scimitar.
- +2 for bastard sword, dagger, greatsword, heavy crossbow, khopesh, light crossbow, long sword, repeating heavy crossbow, repeating light crossbow, short sword, and throwing dagger.
- +1 to all other weapons.
Yeah, that is apparently the actual rule. Not what the feat states in game. Thank you for the clarification.Improved crit gives a static +1 to +3 threat range depending on weapon type. The crit range of the weapon is not factored in. QS gain +1 bonus.
Yeah, it´s things like this that made me give up trying to understand certain game mechanics.I just have to point out that this is not want the feats stipulates. It was what it is. But this is why most of us do not trust what is written in the tooltip.
a while ago weapon tooltips were updated to be more dynamic and take into account the feats you have regardless of being equipped. Also, looked at my Nicked Qstaff and it 19-20. Not 20. Moonbeam is also 19-20.
So.. not real sure what Qstaves are giving 20.
Any standard staff is a 20. 20 is just the standard range of a traditional staff. Some staves have keen (or impact if its older) and are increased to 19-20. Some named staves, like Nicked and Moonbeam, are special and have 19-20. Some have 18-20. Improved crit doesn't stack with keen. It only stacks with the latter. And since the overall standard range of a normal, not special staff is 20, you get a +1. If you go to the feat and expand the list their, that tooltip will tell you. If you go to the ddo wiki for quarterstaffs, you should see in the far right column any special modifiers. Also, looked at my Nicked Qstaff and it 19-20. Not 20. Moonbeam is also 19-20.

Slightly off. Nicked is still 20, he was probably just looking at it while equipped. while having the improved crit feat. Moonbeam has impact which is why it shows as 19-20. The Improved Crit feat in-game description hasn't been updated to the way it currently works.Any standard staff is a 20. 20 is just the standard range of a traditional staff. Something is DDO is not working as the in-game description says??!?!?Slightly off. Nicked is still 20, he was probably just looking at it while equipped. while having the improved crit feat. Improved criticals used to literally double whatever was on the weapon but inherent expanded critical ranges on items can be very powerful when you add in the extra epic feats, enhancement lines, special attacks etc as the game went on & the issue kinda had to be addressed after the inquisitive tree was added & ratcatcher, the ml8 crossbow from threnal, became best in slot for inquisitives vs. all other non-repeating light or heavy crossbows all the way up until level 29 raid loot. New items with expanded critical threat or multiplier just aren't really a thing now but anything that was already in the game actually had their ranges increased so they'd end up in the the same place with improved criticals & not lose power, but since they were all stuff that'd be outclassed later on anyway it wasn't such a big thing - with the exception of ratcatcher, which was actually nerfed a bit to just be really, really good instead of insane.
