So it looks like Shadowdale is the new IT server?

At first it seemed like everyone was choosing Thrane, but lately Ive noticed a lot of people picking Shadowdale, including those that had already committed to Thrane. I was thinking Moonsea would be the most populated because its the only EU server. In game a lot of people I know are choosing Moonsea, but not a lot of Guilds are moving there so it seems.

Moonsea might pull the biggest population card, but don't expect any of the US servers to have a big population advantage. LOTR did their 64b server merge in March of this year. Go read their forums if you like. The players had the idea to create super-servers, and 2 worlds became the favorite target destination. When transfers started and the devs spotted those worlds getting more populated than the others they shut down transfers to those worlds, forcing people to pick someplace else.

Sev has already stated they intend to keep the 3 US DDO servers balanced. They already went through this on LOTR, they do read the forums, they know what to watch for. If Thrane starts pulling more than it's share they will make adjustments.

I think 3 servers is overkill, 2 US servers would have been more than enough. You have to go back to May 20, 2023 to find a peak population of more than 3600. 2025 hasn't broken 3000 players online yet, and on average only has around 1800 players across all words at any given time. Take out the Moonsea population, split what's left over 3 servers ...

The increase in populations will be nice, but don't get your hopes up too high.

I think the reality is no one server will rule them all. This is anecdotal, but not for nothing, I've heard various groups from Sarlona going to various servers. I imagine all the current 32 bits are the same, and it's entierely possible given the effect the law of averages has on human behavior, while it's not guaranteed, I would not be surprirsed if the migration numbers are roughly equal between the three unless for some reason some player rises up and convinces us all to follow them to one specific server.

Maybe Wayfinder peeps will get lucky, and Shadowdale will become the new Wayfinder. ;)

Except Wayfinder was originally an EU server, so most will likely go to Moonsea.

At this point, I think the popular sentiment is still leaning towards Thrane. They seem to be more organized and people usually like that.

Buddy, that title is doing some heavy lifting. You can’t call yourself the ‘it’ server when the servers aren’t even on yet. Thrane doesn't need the hype. We have the Crimson Beagles.

Coming from a tech background I'm reading such threads as:

"my computer is sooooo much better than your computer. See my computer's name is thrane"
"So what. My computer is Shadowdale and has a little Elminster animation randomly casting f*rtbomb spells that delete all the files on the hard drive"

Indeed! Long live Thrane!

I fully understand why people would want to stay away from thrane, and trust us, we are not forcing you to come. this is a great opportunity for leaders to join those of 2 different camps, shadowdale for learning the game and gaining past lives at a leisurely rate with a fun and accepting community, and thrane where more experienced players blast lives in hours, not weeks, and run r10's and reaper raids often, which comes with a less accepting attitude and expecting others to carry their own weight. Neither of these choices are bad. chose what you want and go with it. nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head. Of course individual friends are going to stick together, but they were never worried about server politics anyway.

also, ive seen some players that are in more casual guilds that are headed to non thrane servers drop lately and join with guilds that are headed to thrane in search of r10's and reaper raids as opposed to r4- and hard raids. ive not seen the same movement going the other way.

I honestly think all servers will have a mixed bag with far more end game on Thrane, but I still think there will be a solid mix for levelling and lower level content.

I would so love to establish a flowersniffing community on Thrane ;)
Everyone can test the servers for a while and if they really turn out that much different from server culture it will be easy to chose.
I do prefer a more versatile server so I can flowersniff in the morning when I wake up and zerg R10s after I had lunch.
And on the off-chance all turns pear-shaped there are lots of games out there.

Go out there and find a home, stake your plot, hoist the flag and never surrender!

Cheers,
Titus

I think Thrane and Shadowdale will both be fine.

Most of Sarlona is going to Shadowdale and there will be no shortage of end-game players, R10 runs, raiding. I am hopeful Shadowdale will be the type of server Sarlona is, but with more people.

shadowdale for learning the game

Get a grip lol. I know many going to Shadowdale, and although I expect Shadowdale to be a great environment where people can learn - most I know going to Shadowdale are very advanced players.

To be fair there are quite a lot of players that have said they are heading to Shadowdale because of players that are heading to Thrane. Condescending attitude goes both ways buddy. Glass Houses. I am going to Thrane because most of the folks i play with are going there, its just a game and just a server, yet folks who are heading to Thrane are deemed as Elitist or undesireable (and other terms). You may not like someone who is going somewhere, but that doesnt mean everyone else fits the same tag.

While I think your assumptions about Shadowdale are wrong it's interesting that you expect Thrane to have a less accepting attitude - I take you at your word that will be true and you are speaking from personal experience.

One of the things I respect about many coming to Shadowdale from Sarlona is that while they are great players - they accept people where they are and don't rely on others to help them complete R10s.

I mean in many cases 2 or 3 people might start an R10 LFM and open up the lfm to help people get RXP and meet new people even though they can complete it without help. I mean seriously, if someone needs a random joiner to "pull their weight" how good can they be when alot of R10 groups are a duo that can do it by themselves. Joining an R10 for the first time can be a difficult experience, but personally I am glad when people take the step to do so and prefer to offer words of encouragement rather than be "less accepting". I mean I don't need their help to complete.
