So when and were, does the worst amount of lag start happening?

Hall of Heroes is the one place that over the past several weeks has consistently been lag locked for me. It definitely needs to be looked at.

Overall the game is doing much better though.

Hall of Heroes, while banking and my guild ship are the 3 places where I get lag the most. I also get it gatekeeper's grove - but not as often.

I moved most of my bank characters to reaver's refuge and that seems like a better place to bank than other alternatives.

Lag seems more problematic in public areas than quests/raids. The improvement vs. 6 weeks ago is significant, but not yet good enough to call it done.

Any semi large public area should be instanced. Despite the fact that Sharn Clifftop is instanced, our group is almost guaranteed to lag there at peak. I suspect that GH public area is not instanced, the lag there, at times, is horrific. Hall of Heroes hosts a raid and, if it isn't already, should be instanced. A further issue with HoH is it's water feature. Water has always been a challenge for them.

Water, shadows, spawns, visual effects like what occurs in Wheloon and end of quests.

First instances of almost every quest that is done with a group is also more laggy. I know they deny this, but instance farming to get past the first instance and then judging the length of load screen for the 2nd+ is our go-to strategy. Even after this effort, we can be IP when someone AFK loads in causing lag for about 10-15 seconds.

Of course it is. 🙄
After suffering dismal performance for... practically forever, marginal alteration is easily mistaken for accomplishment.
It's definitely a lot more than a marginal improvement in my experiences playing over the past 3-4 weeks. It's okay to say progress has been made when progress has been made. Lots of improvements for them to do yet, there is still lag locking and bad lag spikes going on but the game is in a much better state than it was.

Lag happens Anytime, Anywhere..
Fix it all.

There has been lag for years that has become normalized which will probably take years to resolve.

Things I have noticed on the 64 bit servers...

Increases in all encompassing lagginess has been consistantly noticed on Shadowdale after 9pm eastern time.

Loot Lag - historical... probably due to loading lots of scrap loot for each individual in end chests.
- Devs should look at reducing the [expletive] for fewer better quality items.. and get rid of the [expletive] healer kits in any chest beyond Korthos its bs that this scrap drops in higher level content.. loot needs to be level appropriate, stop dropping filler scrap.

Instance lag.. certain instances are more laggy than others.
-some player work-around are usually successful in resolving like sending one person into the quest to test the waters.. long load bar, sluggish at entrance.. recall and reset until a clean load is found
- Open area lagginess with more than 1 instance.. swapping instances is usually helpful followed by avoiding that area for the rest of the night and choosing different pack areas to quest in.
- Ship lag.. dont log out on ship, find a small instance low population tavern and log out there.
- Hall of Heroes.. dont log out here it is a [expletive] show.
- Lordsmarch bank - only go here if unpacking then get out of dodge.

Go through Advanced graphics
- turn off stencil shadows
- test and adjust any other shadow effects reduction of graphics sensitivities, quality, range draw, etc..
Even if it means lowering graphics to Minecraft graphics level if it reduces lag to playable levels..
Maybe some day DDO will be able to handle graphics cards beyond windows XP levels without dialing back settings..

To soon to tell if any patches done to date has been really successful in addressing Lag for more than a few days.
There seems to be soo many sources and layers of causes of lag for any one off patch to resolve.
More communication of substance from Dev's would reduce annoyance levels of players.

I notice the most lag in the guild ship cargo hold (specifically below decks, on top it's not that bad) for location based lag. Other lag happens mostly as mobs are spawning in, it's like the game is creating them from scratch right then and there for each one in a very inefficient manner. (which it could very well be doing)

Water has always been a challenge for them.
I have noticed this at White Plume Mountain, the big water tank room before the Ogre Mage Boss.

When I'm facing the walls, there is no issue. As soon I face the water, the FPS drops radically.

Is just a matter of moving the camera. Tried to tweak graphics, but nothing solves It, like disabling Shadow Stencils does to other quests.

Games "improvements" are more likely related to the number of people not logging in, than to the low-hanging fruits the Dev's have been chasing.

I made an earlier post (serio-comic) stating that lag starts at 9:20 EST.

I am now convinced that it is not a joke.

Played beautifully throughout the day, went to make dinner, came back and bam. Locked in placed. Solo, by the way so I cannot blame anyone else in the party. Checked the time. 9:45.

Firmly convinced that something happens between 9:15 and 10pm every night.

Downloading porn I suspect.

In the past, Tolero has spoken about some of the diagnostic tools SSG has that can help pinpoint issues like this. Tolero has even said she can see these things happening in real time and can predict when they're going to happen based on the tools they have.

Here's something Tolero said in the Discord last year:

"FYI just so folks know what I'm doing with the loc data: so I've hit an important milestone where for the last good while, i can *predict* which server is about to experience a lag wave 4 mins before it happens (I take a measure, make the prediction, then confirm if the alarms and locs for that predicted server are popping off). Engineers and I will be meeting up tomorrow to unpack these findings. Thank you for posting your locs! The locs were allowing me to confirm the predictions. This is very important and a huge lead."

(Note: this link opens the DDO Discord, so if you do not use Discord or have access to the DDO Discord it may not work.)

It's been a year since these comments, so I'm not sure if they're using the same tools or something different, but I'd venture to guess it's pretty much the same now as it was then.

I still don't think there is any specific place. I'm currently just stuck in the loading screen after character selection at 2:37pm on a Saturday EST.
