Transcript for those unable to view:

all things in time do wear away
the altar hastens their decay
a place outside of time it lies
but visible by mortal eyes
a closer look at corners new
patience brings it into view

Decay? Outside of time?

I wonder if that's Seeds of Decay.

A place outside of time (in DDO) probably refers to the Astral Plane. Technically, depending on how you understand Xoriat it could be outside of time as well but I don't think we technically spend much, if any, time actually in Xoriat and not manifest zones (though I could be forgetting something in some older content).

As for the Astral Plane, it technically doesn't experience the passing of time. In theory, that could mean that it does not fall "outside" of time because time does technically pass on the Astral Plane, kind of sort of, but it doesn't have any real effect on creatures or objects there. Quests that I know off the top of my head that involve the Astral Plane:
Astral Ambush
The Fettid Wedding
Vecna Denied

Otherwise, time travel makes sense as a possible broader solution if "outside of time" means not in the present.
Times Long Past (not jealous of whoever checks every corner in that one)
Chronoscope
Time Flies (event quest from the anniversary, so almost definitely not that)

I don't remember any altars in any of those, though Astral Ambush has several locations that I didn't really pay attention to. As for "corners new", I believe that could hint towards The Fettid Wedding, but it could also be an unnannounced change to either Vecna Denied or Astral Ambush.

Given that one of the items for the emblem dropped in the Underdark, I think the whole "not in an expansion" thing was a red herring, so I wouldn't write off Vecna Denied or Times Long Past for that. Chronoscope, as a raid (even if it is a relatively easy one these days) probably isn't the place either would be my guess. There is that odd chest in The Fettid Wedding behind the puzzle route teleporter to the bridesmaid, but that feels a bit obvious? That said, if I had the patience to farm an emblem, that is where I would look.

I don't think the Dreaming Dark is technically outside time. Dal Quor has a different passage of time, but it is connected in a general sense to the flow of time in Eberron at a different rate. If that would be considered as a possible answer, then you would also need to include places like the Feywild. Which technically you could also argue is outside the flow of time.

I meant more that some of the quests involve going back through memories of things, which is outside of time.

Isn't gravenhollow outside of time? there is a wing upstairs that has nothing in it, but I don't have a completed ooze sigil to check (as in stand there and see if the altar appears).

You might be thinking too literally - "outside of time" can be used to describe anything old or ancient, like ruins. "Corners new" might mean that the location is in the new pack.

Or, I'm totally wrong, as an article I found on Gravenhollow states that it's "a peculiar building for many reasons: it was outside the normal time of Toril..."
Sharing here too: The altar is upstairs in gravenhollow. Behind the green crystal
Looks like I was totally wrong. Screenshot?

Huh they messed up with sceptre. It has both Blighted Lore and Acid lore, so Acid Lore is useless. Wonder if they meant to use Insightful Acid Lore

Every weapon with these stats/procs:
So basically the Melted Armor debuff from Legendary Ooze/Constricting Nightmares and an acid dot, which can both be had on Viktra weapons. Does Lingering Acidic Burn do any more damage than Alchemical Earth? They don't stack so I've been assuming they're the same dot. Anyway, it's kinda meh overall.

It does more (it does the same as Dripping with Magma). But not stacking does limit its use vs having a different dripping + alchemical earth

And with that.. we are solved. Going live now to review!
I feel like there should be more to the connection between the altar and Muck's Ascension than the mere mention of the former's existence in the latter's description.

The weapon also implies that if you use it to kill Muck, Muck will revive stronger.

This may actually be the key

We have a new secret hunt!!! Let's go!! Since the original thread Black globe of slime - What's it for? started by forum superstar rabidfox has gotten so big that its pretty hard to keep track of things as they develop, especially for those just now joining the hunt. I thought I'd make a new thread as sort of a FAQ and current status hub. So I'll be updating this main post as progress is made.

What is the secret?
In the Catalyst Crafting introduced with Terror of Demogorgon, Muck's Ascension has a strange clue in its flavor text: To seek out the Sealed Altar.

Legendary_Muck%27s_Ascension.png

Using some clues, especially a late addition from Steelstar's twitch channel, we found the Sealed Altar in top of Gloomhaven. You need be near it and stand around it for a little while for it to be useable. (no other items required. just patience and proximity. be close)

When attempting the use the altar, it'll deny you. However, after you complete a saga, you can claim the black globe of slime as your reward:

Black_Globe_of_Slime.png

Following the riddle it'll lead you to 5 locations dropping their own uniquely colored globe, you want 6 in total.
To find and form the oozing mark = black = ToD saga reward that gives us the means to find the others and gives us the instructions on what do with em)
Delve within the deepest dark = gold = Underdark, north west top path with oozes. (newly added?) Near the shrine
Kill what lives in rival's home = green = TOEE quest 2, water temple (TOEE is Zuggotmuy's home and Juiblex's rival. See fetid wedding ending)
And look deep where his blessed roam = pink = the pit (hinting at Avatar of Juiblex, Juiblex's blessed.)
Break the glass in which they slept = gray = whiteplume moutnain (hinting at those glass spheres vampire side that can reveal slimes)
And don't forget where secret's kept = blue = durks got a secret (muck optional)
Six to three make two then one = instructions combine the 6 into two halves. top (black, gold, green) and bottom (pink, gray, blue), then presumably those two halves make the emblem.
The Faceless Lord's true blessing won = Praise juiblex ... not sure what do with the emblem yet. Signs point to a crafting table

At the Fetid Cauldron, combine the 6 globes into two halves. top (black, gold, green) and bottom (pink, gray, blue). Then combine the top and bottom halves to make the Emblem

With the emblem, you can return to the Seal Altar and exchange duergar weapon for Strange weapon of Oozing Hunger.

All weapons have the same effects except the club:

7/24 - 7/25 update - Found gold globe and uncovered Muck's Ascension clue.
7/25 update - Added known clues so far for finding the Sealed Altar
7/26 - Solved!

What is the secret?
The start comes from taking the Black Globe of Slime as your saga reward when you complete the Terror of Demogorgon saga.

Black_Globe_of_Slime.png

As you can see, it gives a fun riddle to follow. Points to us needing 6 items, taking 3 of them to make 2 halves. And then combining those 2 halves into a final item to then gets The Faceless Lord's (Juiblex) true blessing.

Additionally, in Gravenhallow, you can find the Fetied Cauldron with a couple npcs talking about it in quite vague terms. Like they don't know why they're keeping it.
mkwWe6S.jpeg

What does the True Blessing do?
Short answer is, we don't know yet, from the wiki mine (https://ddowiki.com/page/Fetid_Cauldron) we know that this part of the puzzle ends in a Slime Emblem... I suspect it'll be a crafting option.. but details are unknown still and I don't expect we'll truely know until after the raid released, but we're still on step two, finding the stuff.

What does the riddle mean? Where do we find the globes? Current Status: 6 out of 6 found
To find and form the oozing mark = black = ToD saga reward that gives us the means to find the others and gives us the instructions on what do with em)
Delve within the deepest dark = gold = Underdark, north west top path with oozes. (newly added?) Near the shrine

How will I know if I found a Globe of Slime area/optional? What is the drop rate?

There is an added chest with each location found so far. Some are a little tucked away, but are very near their respective encounters. Look around carefully when searching.

For example, Muck optional now has 2 chests. The glass optional in white plume now has single chest where there were none before. The drop rate of the globe is not is not 100% but it does seem high. I've only had to re-roll a chest once so far to get a globe.

What's Next? Finding the Sealed Altar

Now that we've made an Emblem (which doesn't got into any bags btw nor does double clicking on it do anything). It was pointed out to that flavor text on the Muck's Ascension.... it points to a Sealed Altar to find.. As far as where to find it? Either we need to use clues we already have.. or there is another clue to find.

wzXcvKm.png

Legendary_Muck%27s_Ascension.png

Sadly the npcs near the fetid cauldron didn't have new text and poking around randomly hasn't been fruitful. And exploring with my potentially bugged legendary jellysight isn't so great (if they're needed to see the Altar like Steps)

What Clues do we have to find the Sealed Altar?

Take theses with a grain of salt. Its early days.
So, piecing together threads of lore...

Juiblex appears to be making Muck into one of their Avatars. So anything Muck or Juiblex related seems to be in play here.

Durk's Got a Secret = Muck's spawn location.
The Pit = housed the Avatar of Juiblex as well as a host of Troglodyte Juiblex cultists.
If it Wasn't for Bad Luck = We find some gnome scoffing at the other sect Juiblex followers been trying to assemble an Avatar. This is most likely referring to the Pit

Tn8JQdn.png

To my knowledge so far, the only other place where Juiblex has a focus is the Fetid Wedding.. but more as a foil to Zuggutmuy. Still there could be other clues left to find. NPC dialogue, flavor text... weird sections of the map.. who knows, keep an eye out seekers!

So what does that tell us?
Not much.. been over those quests a ton and never noticed any Altar's sealed or otherwise that were special. So we're likely missing a clue still or we need to make some leaps of logic using meta knowledge.

What kind of Meta Knowledge?
Well, the Jellysight is an oddly special item that likely have some significance. Step's puzzle required special goggles to see the altar. And while I have been running around mostly with those goggles on... I have the legendary version which the overlay doesn't work. (working on acquiring a heroic set).

Odds are the Altar is in the new content. It just makes the most sense to put the Altar somewhere in the new content just like Steps. Alternate options are the 3 main quests listed above.

Most crafting/trade 'Altars' are in a 'safe place' or in places that aren't too hard to be made safe so people aren't constantly attacked while trying to craft.

The emblem itself is weird, it doesn't go into a bag like a normal crafting ingredient. Could be a bug or could be required to see/use/unseal the Altar. Possibly in combo with Jellysight... The same could be said for Muck's Ascension itself to I suppose.

Steelstar was also kind of enough to let us know that everything we need currently exists. If I interpret his messages correctly, no need to wait for the raid or the unreleased quest.

What clues are there currently?
Beyond the riddle itself, each other globe of slime ingredient found so far as the same flavor text. Which heavily hints at the their found outside of the Terror of Demogorgon content. And with everyone running the new content.. it's weird no one has found it simply by luck at this point.
Gray_Globe_of_Slime.png

Also, each one has been a red named Ooze and, so far at least, each of the ones found so far have been a different type of ooze.

Kill what lives in rival's home = green = TOEE quest 2, water temple = Gelatinous Cube Living Pool
And look deep where his blessed roam = pink = the pit = Arcane Ooze Avatar of Juiblex
Break the glass in which they slept = gray = whiteplume moutnai = Black Pudding Huge Black Pudding (red-named)
And don't forget where secret's kept = blue = durks got a secret (muck optional) = Gray Ooze Muck

Jellysight Goggles needed for anything? So far, it doesn't seem like the jellysight goggles are needed, but my legendary ones are bugged so not impossible

Leaving us with one final piece, Delve within the deepest dark... we think...

Where have we checked?

Keep in mind, its a good idea to re-check these. We may of missed something!

In addition to the quests above where we found something... largely been trying to use the wiki for Oozes to brute force finding it. Still plenty to check.

To my knowledge the following have been checked (each notable ooze area/encounter) by myself or a community member for the bonus chest.
