Some Cannith Crafting Suggestions

1) Recipe Suggestions:
  • Add recipes (for different colors) that add a first Augment slot to an Item (like slave lords crafting)
  • Add astral cost recipes that adds a second Augment slot
  • Add recipes that name the crafted item! The name is chosen by the crafter, the item is converted to "crafted" named and can be eaten by sentient items.
  • Add recipes for crafting sets and adding them to crafted named items.

2) Boost Random Loot Suggestion:
Add a recipe to boost random loot items to Cannith level properties.
The recipe should work in the following way:
step 1: add the identical unbound ML shard with that of the random loot item.
step 2: add the identical unbound effect shard with the effect the random loot item has. (item type/prefix/suffix/extra is irrelevant in this use)
Result: scaling of random loot becomes like the one of the CC item! A useful recipe when one of the properties is desired and not craftable :-D while the other properties are not cutting it.

A mechanism like this could also be used to upgrade old named items.

3) Finally, add an auction vendor (both pp and shards) for Blanks. It should be an identical vendor like the existing just you are allowed to only post items marked for crafting. At any stage...

Just spend a few moments going through the list. Sometimes i find otherstuff i didn't expect and buy that too.

They've hinted/said that they have no plans to update cannith crafting anytime soon. Not sure why it's so difficult...I was under the impression that the whole POINT of the stat squish years ago was to standardize the effect numbers and curve. You could see that stats go up every X levels, spellpower goes up by X every level, etc.

That sounds to me like it should be easy to just let higher min level shards and it should all fall into place. And if not, it should be easy to fix?

Never gonna happen. Working on cannith crafting is hard to monetize.
They don't want to bother and hope people forget about it.
Well I think CC has monetization opportunities!
a) a dedicated CC trader with Astrals for things that would be hard to get such as: Mystical components, Cannith Marks, etc..., Success Boosters, XP Pots etc.
b) Astral based recipes
c) Getting perfect blanks. TBH if there was a reasonable cost (1-3) blanks vendor I would use it and I'm super greedy :-D But to get a weapon with the material you want and 2 slots on it worths the astral.

Now it is not an aspect of the game that would worth DDO points or $$$ directly, but reasonable Astrals it does
Of course, to use astrals for that it must mean CC items compete with Slave Crafting, and even with some Named

Anything that is highly customizable shouldnt be to good or too easy to acquire.
That is a game design problem that leads to power creep.

And for ssg in particular less rerolls/raid timers for named stuff.

Maybe they will do some new recipes with new rare ingredients. That could make them some money.

Overall, I like it. Cannith Crafting has a few systemic problems:

1) It takes a LOT of time and materials to get it to a level where it's worth bothering with it at all. If you want to minimize the time, you have to invest a lot of both plat and DDO Points to buy cannith essences, crafting xp bonus pots, and success boosters.

2) It lacks a lot of options (new effects, but also profane and quality bonuses and the like).

3) Collecting materials to actually make something sometimes makes farming named items look productive.
Consolidating the up to three variations of the same 'type' of collectible (lore, arcane, natural, and cultural) at the same 'tier' would help.. a lot. Eliminating the three rarities at each tier would help even more. Advantages: easier collection of required mats for a particular item, reduced storage requirements, less frustration. As balance, they could require up to double or triple the quantity of the collectible in the recipes to replace the uncommon and rare collectibles.

4) Finding blanks that have the characteristics you want (material and augment slots, mostly) is time-consuming, expensive, and frustrating since the AH allows no way to show which items have augment slots, for example, without perusing EVERY offered item in the category. And by 'perusing' I mean you literally have to hover your mouse over every single item to see if it has augment slots. Not only is there no search parameter, but the icon and description also give no clue.

5) The last pass made it fairly equal in the power of individual effects with named gear at that time, but power creep happens and CC is never updated in a timely fashion.

Adding options to craft set bonuses and/or add augment slots (especially the new moon/sun augment slots) to CC items would go a long way to keeping it in the game.
