I decided to make a new thread on my build to be more specific for future people looking for answers to these same questions. I’ve been combing through everything I can find here and on the old forums looking for some guidance on rebuilding my Wood Elf Tempest. Allowing for the fact that some of the build ideas and opinions are out of date (I’ve recently returned after quite a few years), it seems to me that there are 2 routes to go with a Dex build.
I have come to the conclusion that I can either go for raw damage and survivability via Dreadnaught and Fury of the Wild or go the sneaky rogue-like route of investing heavily in stealth and sneak attack via the Shadowdancer tree.
Going Dreadnaught/Fury appears more straight forward to me as it would allow me to invest more heavily in the Tempest and Welf trees and not having to go so much into Deepwood Sniper for all the SA damage bonuses …. Or am I wrong about this? Do I still pass up some very attractive stuff to chase a deep DWS dip? Would it dictate whether to take Arborea vs Ethereal plane?
I have a rogue already so don’t really want to play the sneaky route with my Ranger, but if it’s the higher DPS route, I’ll go with it. I know there isn’t really a “best” way to do a lot of builds anymore but I don’t want to sacrifice DPS just “because”….
I’m seeking some clarity on how people are making their decisions about enhancement trees. I have seen “41 AP in Tempest” and between “20 and 31” in DWS. Why not all the good stuff in Welf like the Dexterity and Weapon Training bumps. Also the tier 4 Doublestrike skill and 5% offhand bonus? I’m accustomed to chasing any main stat bump that can be found- is it superfluous now? What level of Dex should I be shooting for? Also, It doesn’t seem like the special attack clickies from Tempest or the Imbue dice stance is heavily favoured, but again, I cannot find an actual up to date Welf Dex Tempest build- everything seems to be Dark Hunter now. The clickies and stance look so good to me- am I reading more into them than they deserve?
Epic Destinies seem pretty straight forward once you decide Sneak Attack or no Sneak Attack. There’s no way to get all the good stuff out of Dreadnaught, Fury and Shadowdancer, so it seems you have to go one way or the other and pick 2 of them. Is this an accurate assessment? If going the Shadowdancer route, which do you pair it with- Dreadnaught or Fury?
Another thing I wonder about is the elf Dragonmark and the Displacement clicky. It seems like a lot of investment for something that could be cast via scrolls (albeit only 30 sec worth). How long does it last and how long is the cooldown? I’ve seen some people love it and others not even mention it.
Again, thanks for reading and any advice/input is appreciated.
