Some gear to think about if you play trapper

I play a lot of Trapper toons. Those would be Rogue, Artificer, and Dark Hunter. Personally, after playing trappers, I find the 2 hierlings you can get with expansions to be not up to my standards. I played a life as a pure cleric and was frustrated relying on them. So now I put a couple of levels of trapper in all my builds. I know I will lose some things, but since I tend to solo more often than not, I want to be able to do traps and the other traditional trapper things.

I have spent some time collecting a lot of trapper-enhancing gear. So I thought I would share some of the best trapper gear to farm. I am sure I missed a few things. I did not include some of the things you can get in raids that will cover some of the skills, but not all of them. So here is a list of trapper gear and where to find them. I listed what I have currently and what I do not have.

My current builds use a combination of the following items I do have

Keylock RingLevel 10 Death House, End chest Ring +12
Experimenter's Goggles Level 15 The Underlane Assignment, end chest Goggles +16
Magnifying Lens Level 21 The Hobgoblin Horde, end chest Googles +18
Legendary Keylock Ring Level 29 Death House, End chest Ring +20

These are a couple of the combination items to get all the skills that I have used

Borderlands Heroic level 1 items. They drop from rare chests in the wilderness area
Legendary Saltmarsh

Nice items to get to boost skills
These have both heroic and epic versions at multiple levels. Stats vary with level

Skullduggery Kit belt, Through a Mirror Darkly
Bracers of Twisting Shade A Stay at the Inn

From the annual Crystal Cove event, there are these two items that can be used to boost trapper skills. They have multiple levels, so if you want them, you will need to grind for the ingredients to get them. Take a look and see if it is something you would like to get

Finally, the last item is from an optional chest in The Haunted Halls of Eveningstar

Manual of Stealthy Pilfering: A level 26 item gives +20 Spot, Disable Device, and Open Lock. Will need to upgrade to add an augment slot if you want to add a +20 search augment for everything. That requires grinding the quest for the ingredients to upgrade it.

Items that have all skills: Disable Device, Open Lock, Search, and Spot that I am still farming for

Tunneler's ToolkitQuest Level 4The Knife's Edge, end chest Belt +7
Leather Gloves of the Snake Quest Level 6Kind of a Big Deal, End chest Gloves +8
Kundarak Delving GogglesQuest Level 10Plane of Night Raid VON6 End ChestGoggles +11
Epic Leather Gloves of the SnakeQuest Level 21Kind of a Big Deal, End chest Gloves +18
Epic Kundarak Delving GogglesQuest Level 22Plane of Night Raid VON6 End ChestGoggles +17
Epic Skeleton Key Quest Level 27 Thrall of the Necromancer, End chest Trinket +19
Legendary Experimenter's GogglesQuest Level 32 The Underlane Assignment, end chest Goggles +20

I am sure I missed a few items. So, anyone who does a lot of trapping, chime in with what I missed.

I craft two pieces of Legendary Green Steel for levels 26+, one for Spot and one for Search/Disable Device, since I can get +39 to those skills (+22 competence, +11 insight, +6 quality). The only downside is I have to swap from the Spot gear to the Search gear when I spot the trap, but it totally feels worth it, since I haven't had any trouble with traps in the legendary levels since I got the gear.

It does take a bit of farming of Legendary Shroud, though, especially for the Tier 3 quality bonus, but the Tier 1&2 bonuses should help a lot.

It is SPOT that is the most difficult because you need wisdom. Hence a high wisdom item and spot item is required.
Luckily there are now items with search disable ( open lock and spot) on the same item. Plus you need an intelligence item
Open lock needs a high dexterity. seriously there are only half a dozen locks in the entire game which are difficult to pick.
Lastly there are skill tomes. + 3 are available from some saga rewards . +5 from ddo store or auction house if you are lucky and rich with platinum

The thing is, spot is only useful when you're starting as a trapper, or when doing new content. Once you have spent some time in quests, you'll remember where the trap boxes are anyway, so spot's useless.
And ofc, if you get the feat or enhancement that gives you the ability to auto-search for traps, you don't need spot either.
So honestly, the only trap skills you really need are search and disable.

Cannith Crafting is great for trapping and levelling stat gear.

No Pita farming of rare drop BTC gear or multiple pieces to achieve base and insightful bonusses needed.

Craft at each level with the enhancement bonus as well as insightful bonus to each skill as desired.
Easily pre-craft BTA trapping gear for all appropriate levels as desired making it usable for multiple lives on mains and alts.
Can easily craft any random drop vendor trash/pickup at the AH, or enhance by using items that came with with 1 or 2 augment slots.

What you are missing is stacking effects. By cap you want to have.

Competence
Insightful
quality
exceptional

Most efficient way to get all disable device for example is LGS+Legendary Tiara of madness

I am on the reincarnation wheel. One life I played through 3 times was a human cleric with 1 level of rogue. My toon, Muhther, did the healing and the crowd control (via spells) and the trapping for the party. Human was very helpful with the extra skill point per level and then the Knowledge Domain with the +2 to all skills and the bonus to intelligence from a turn-undead use. It was tight, and I won't lie, the past lives and the tomes she had read to skills and stats was helpful. But it was doable :)

Oh yes, and Find Traps spell was also very helpful to fill out the skill points :)

long live ROGUE
For heroics: Helm or goggles, level 10: INT of search of insightful search.
gloves: level 10: disable of insightful disable. +5 thieves' tools.

These will get you from 10-20, no need to have so many stressful and backpack-consuming swaps.
Otherwise, add things like Greater heroism for boosting skills, and if it is a new toon, maybe take some enhancements for pushing it up a bit higher.

A new player will not be able to craft this stuff, so 'new toon' means veteran player on a new toon. Veteran toons will have +3 skills in search/disable as well.

For epics and legendary, you want to get insightful and exceptional, and maybe even quality if desperate. LGS will get you competence/insightful and quality if you want (or this belt https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Legendary_Tunneler's_Toolkit); then you add from this list: https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Exceptional_Astute_Skills_Bonus_items and this one with the same bonus, under a different sorting function: https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Intelligence_Skills_-_Exceptional_Bonus_items
There are augments in Lamordia that help too. , up to +12 at cap for profane + artifact. Not sure if so much is even needed.

Time to start Unbound crafting. Maybe I'll get rich on Astral shard exchange. The only problem I've had with traps is being an Arti. 1 wrong move and you're DEAD

this like you said is spot. I don't invest a lot in it personally as I have reflexes and HP if I mess up but that not a newer trapper
