Someone on Cormyr has my name... and it kinda sucks

No Baldrick? 🤔

Go with Percy Darling. 😁👍
I hit a naming wall once so I started using actors from another era, combining first and last names. Hence Merleoberon and Mischauer.

But back to the topic, it would be nice if SSG could expand the naming capabilities and it is disappointing when you can't be Drizzttttttttttttt but no to paying for names.

First of all, I’d like to point out that the $50 fee could also be paid in DDO Points, so even free-to-play players could afford it. Secondly, I’ve already suggested other possible prerequisites for name reservation.
$50 in DDO points is still $50 worth of stuff that could be spent elsewhere, like for new content. Just because it's points doesn't change the value. Throwing away points is expensive and a waste IMO. I can't afford to (well won't) throw away $50 in points to park a name.

The main goal for me is simply to allow players to reserve a name while minimizing the risk of people reserving names just to troll others or hoard them.

If you have better ideas to prevent that, I’m all ears!
There's plenty of ways to park names that SSG could do; like where a person is allowed park 3 names (which is pretty much what LOTRO did, where they limited it to VIP for parking 3 names) before things go live for transfers. It's unlikely someone is going to waste their limited number of parked names trolling others. SSG could go in a lot of directions, but the monetization idea to charge large amounts is one I will oppose strongly (even when it's just folks making suggestions).

It is possible as soon as they logged in they went anonymous and now you cant see their class.
But you can't enter a world anonymously for the first time, either after creating a character or after completing a TR. You can become anonymous once you've entered, but then you're registered as a level 1 character of a specific class. When you become anonymous, that doesn't change; you just stop seeing them online.

There's no reason the fee has to be so much. I do think it's ridiculous people think they should get it for free.

Even though I don’t think $50 (in DDO Points) is a particularly high price to reserve a name, as I mentioned earlier, my main goal is to prevent name hoarding or reserving names just to troll other players. That has happened to me in almost every Hardcore season—someone (or something) took the name Chacka and didn’t even play the character.

I’ve also suggested other ideas earlier in this thread, by the way.

If you have a better ideas, I’m all ears!

So you're jumping in as a white champion in response to an imaginary threat—that other posters won't be able to read the entire post? Um 🤦‍♂️ Anyway, I'll just say you don't need to babysit the rest of the posters either. Especially because you're quoting me as if I said something I didn't say.
I have made a guild on Cormyr called Hero Support, so, yes.

Well, don't confuse your role in a fictional world with real life. It's ironic that you say I should have been more precise, stating that SSG is working on all the details of the transfers, blah blah, but then you're completely vague, referring to my post as if I said something I didn't.

If you want to play the white knight, don't do it by distorting other people's posts.

Again, my idea is that a player should be able to reserve only one name. The purpose of this is so that when other players see that name, they immediately recognize it as you. It’s not about hoarding names—even allowing three reserved names would already dilute the intent.

The core idea is that a reserved name helps others connect a name to one specific player. And because of that, it’s not absolutely essential to me that the reserved name is Chacka—even though I’d like to use it. I came up with that name for myself about 20 years ago in EverQuest, and I've used it ever since, wherever it’s not already taken.

That said, I’m not sure how other games handle this. If you can reserve up to three names in LOTRO, that’s still better than what we currently have. But personally, I think it would be even better if players could reserve only one name, and—if you're playing a different character—have your reserved name appear as a suffix (if you choose), so others still know it's you.

I'd like to a system something like "name" of "original server" when they do the transfers to the new servers. it would be cool to see where everyone came from.

In Lotro, you can't reserve up to three names. It was a one-time thing they did just before the transfers to the new 64-bit servers.

You don't need to reserve a name to be recognized. On your server, people'll recognize you if you're socially active there, and at events like hardcore, if you want, you can always add "Chacka from Orien" as your surname or bio. And why would you want a name on servers you don't play on? But if you want it so badly, go to the trouble of creating a toon there, and that's it.

All they really need to do is allow the surname to be included in determining if a name is "unique". Problem solved!

If you managed to score a name like Kinda Sucks, just be grateful. You can't expect to score a killer name like that on every server.

Other games have a "nickname" mechanic. You have the official name of your character, but you can specify a nickname which is displayed while in-game. That allows people to adopt and use a display name of their choosing. The player's real name is displayed in a smaller subscript below the display name.

Someone grabbed my name right as Cormyr opened and it never advanced past level 1 to this day.

I am not sure if someone else just wanted to reserve that name or it was a troll, but either way it's not even on the radar of concerns. People that matter will always know who I am based on the combination of my character name and guild name which is what really matters to me.

The actual name is unimportant as I can make as many variations of it as I need.

I have 18 characters on Cormyr. 2 of them sort of get played, but barely since the lantern event ended.

Most are placeholders for my characters on other servers, some are names I may want in future.
