Something seems off post U59

Think that a normal for R10, like on HC7 when dog appear and wipe ya, R10 is a supposed to be a challenge
Not so sure I'd call it anything close to normal. I play r10 a lot -almost exclusively outside of raids tbh - and sure, I die quite a bit (idiocy and/or vengeance reapers related, usually), that's normal for me, but I can't recall getting blapped for 13k like that before, and I think I'd have noticed before now if it were more normal.

Does the OP realize that the Dungen Alert (DA) system was updated recently. Odds are that what they were experiencing was a DA buffed mob.

That's actually not in fact normal for r10s. 170% fort was enough to get past most content without seeing crits on you for days typically. I recall being critted indeed, but it was very, very rare, usually once a week that i can recall. Depending on how reckless i am, sometimes more frequently.

With 250 Fort, no common mob should be critting you. Even most Champs probably don't have 150%+ Fort Bypass.
Indeed, when i mained 170% fort it was rare to get critted in general and most ofnwhat i run is r10s, so completely agree with this.

This. As stated before by myself, as well as probably others this is not normal based on standards we are used to.

Again, barring normal idiocy and reckless abandon, crits were far and few between. I cant talk about the damage numbers specifically since thats very build specific.

I and many others are in fact aware of dungeon alert being changed. However r10 and dungeon alert was and is never a good idea. Even based on others posts its happening in all content. Look at older posts for more info, this question has already been asked and in fact answered already.

Tldr; not dungeon alert. Unless da is being applied outside of da circumstances. But this seems unlikely.

I'm taking 1500 damage on a single hit R2 Grim And Barret from a common Abishai. This.. is not normal. I also have 200% fort.

I posted this elsewhere for laughs but maybe it fits here too.

With all the broken stuff not fixed for months in the game are you surprised something is changed and not tested?

So you assume the Devs "snuck" it in. Funny. Giving them way too much credit there.

Well this isn't just any regular change. Some bank issue I can laugh off but if my character is at less than half of what it was in terms of being able to do content, that's on a completely different level.

Is there any more testing being done on this?

I didn't notice any of what people have been saying in this thread till. We got to doing Mid skulls in Legendary. I was getting rekt in a few quests by trash mobs. I wonder if this has to do with DA. If yer dead you can't DA. lol

I still think somethings janky with the Fortification on player characters. Has anyone tried different Fort levels with their characters? ~150%, ~200%, ~250%, 300+% etc. Notice anything different in terms of hits?

Not yet. Was thinking about this last night. My fort is 243% I was being critted for around 4.6k which is more them my 4k+ hp and unconscious range. lol

I'm putting my money on the ranged arc changes applying to monsters. It seems much harder to dodge archer shots or get casters to miss-fire by circling them. More hits = more potential for crits.

On fort, my experience is that most monsters have little to no fort bypass, such that ~150% is usually sufficient. Fort bypassing champions seem to just ignore it completely, as they always have.

Just wondering if we're still seeing this crazy stuff post U59.2??

Nothing in the release notes, but then that's not much of an indicator.?
Yes, still happening in 59.2. Died multiple times to crits last night while running R10s in various expansions. Had around 180% fortification.

Prior to U59, the occasional champ would crit me, but as others have said, I'd go days/even weeks between occurrences of that. Since U59, it happens multiple times per night. I'm not a tank, so as a general rule I'm not taking a high volume of hits in general which makes the change in rate of crit hits even more noticeable.

Dumb question but could the heightened damage also be a function of doublestrike for monsters functioning? I don’t really remember taking damage that would’ve implied doublestrike from monsters before, but if there’s some heightened fort bypass AND a chance of double damage, that could explain some of the super high numbers surrounded by more baseline numbers documented here.

It wouldn’t happen consistently since it would be the intersection of a critical hit that bypasses fortification and a doublestrike on the critical hit - some percentage of crits would just be normal single hits which you shrug off with PRR and HJEAL MEEE

Not sure there’s any way to test that unfortunately, but it could be something where there’s synergy between small increases in base damage, small changes in critical chance, and small changes in other combat mechanics that together spell bad news.

All of this endless speculation wouldn’t be needed if DDO's combat log was worth a dam. Been literally a decade of folks asking / begging to have this addressed. Hell, even just having the log dump to a local text file would be freaking golden-awesome sauce.

Or if the devs. community manager, or even a coffee-fetching intern could be bothered to take a few minutes to respond and confirm whether or not this was an intentional change.

SSG needs to hire a consultant to train them on how to build a healthy relationship with their customers. That and a professional marketer. Oddly enough, both of those require simple, effective communication which SSG continually rolls 1s on.

To your point though, I remember the good ol' Everquest 1 days. EQ1 had excellent combat logging and there were multiple community-created log parsers and utilities built for it. It added a ton of value.

Some days I wonder if the reason SSG doesn't give us better logging capabilities is because they know how much broken stuff we'd find using it.

I would have prefer to have someone on the team post in this thread, however, in the hardcore sneak peak stream, Cordo did say that they are aware of these reports and of this thread, and are investigating. He also said that they are hoping we continue to do our thing and they will continue to pay attention to updates in this thread, because combat is so complex that any leads we can give or rule out will help them narrow it down.

Communicating that in only one place - in the middle of an hour long stream about hardcore - really doesn't bolster community trust imo, but from that it does seem that the extra damage we're experiencing is not intended.
