Our 64-bit Cormyr server is back with a look at U70 Lanterns in the Mists! Learn more here.
Unknown, but not until other 64-bit servers will be launched after Cormyr. When can I transfer?
That is the main question. When are we getting 64bit servers for those of us who don't wish to abandon 18 years of grinding, but still have the irrational wish to play without crippling lag?
IF I recall the discussion correctly, Severlin stated that once they work thru the issues with moving guilds and AS and mounts and companions and shared banks and. . .That is the main question.
When are the current servers going to be upgraded or moved to the new 64bit servers? If ever?
Pretty much what I remember... but that nebulous future seems very far away right now.IF I recall the discussion correctly, Severlin stated that once they work thru the issues with moving guilds and AS and mounts and companions and shared banks and. . .
THEN they would open up new servers and make them available for (free? i don't recall that part) transfers from the existing servers.
I don't think upgrading existing servers to 64 bit was ever discussed.
To be fair, Cormyr itself seemed really far away when the discussion started. Now however it looks like it may well be in the relatively near future.Pretty much what I remember... but that nebulous future seems very far away right now.
True. But.... yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. A 64bit server is one thing, sorting out MM, guilds, pets, mounts, AS etc seems quite another. To be fair, Cormyr itself seemed really far away when the discussion started. Now however it looks like it may well be in the relatively near future.
If what Tolero said in her chat with Cordo is true, the 64 bit server will let them find more sources of lag because they won't have the server issues to sort thru. Thus any sources found there, and fixed, will help both 64 and 32 bit servers.True. But.... yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. In any case, we need action on lag now. Not at some undefined point in a possible future.
In line with the comment above I'm thinking once the event has finished. We've been told that it's going to be longer than normal. I'm thinking around six months. That provides them plenty of time to see how the upgraded tech behaves, upgrade the character transfer system, and prepare the new servers. When are the current servers going to be upgraded or moved to the new 64bit servers? If ever?
I agree with most of this except I believe some people will stay for one special reason. The Lantern in the Mist event means that you can run the "Hardcore" aspect even after you TR. That means you can build your toon up before tackling the "Hardcore" aspect. It seems like they are using this model for potentially ongoing "Hardcore" seasons. If that is so, then running you r toon up will make future events even easier. If this is the case, then I can see a good chunk of people staying to prep their toons for later. While that is going on they will continue to gather data that will benefit the game overall with fixing lag points and other issues.Personally I think they will keep Cormyr as the only 64bit for at least a few months. It will be a battle of wills between those of us who know it will never be their forever home vs SSG wanting to keep its USP active for as long as possible.
The Mists event will serve as a fund grabber, its selling point being that it is on the 1st 64 bit server and you will get Hardcore-like shinies that you cant get anywhere else. They will see a small increase in subscribers even if just for a short period of time, which will be seen as a success whatever the numbers because X amount of people subscribed briefly when they otherwise wouldnt have.
Bottlenecking the chance for the 64 bit experience for a short while will let them rake in a bit of extra cash, this isnt actually a terrible idea because it WILL secure funds (I will be going VIP again to try it out) - it may or not completely pay for the upgrade in infrastructure but that is neither here nor there, because they are doing it regardless. I imagine that they will run Cormyr with the Mists event for what... a few months? However long Hardcore originally was? After the Mists event, Cormyr will either become defunct (because now you HAVE to be VIP to play those characters) OR they will drop the VIP requirement on it OR they will allow FREE character transfers to it for VIPs. It makes no sense whatsoever to keep a particular server as VIP only when there is nothing special about it after the event. Based on the limited information we currently have, I cant see why anyone will stay on Cormyr forever so I imagine its lifespan as being very short-lived for us players, although SSG will want it to stay as the only 64 bitter as long as possible. Hopefully it will be just a stepping stone. But cant see a single reason why any player would want it to be where their main server. Maybe it will be opened up from time to time like Hardcore is, and we should treat any toon that is made there as disposable.
there were a few people that TR'd during the previous HC seasons even more though those who missed some items that were low level only during the treasure hunt season. but a small hand full did TR. Be it either for easier Favor grinds or cause they didn't care about the board.I agree with most of this except I believe some people will stay for one special reason. In the Friday at Four on September 20th Severlin mentioned that they "need to work on naming issues for transfers". This means they know the problem; they are working on it and since we don't know what it looks like, yet we can't say this sucks or anything else. It just comes up to if, if , if.So basically, instead of them doing a mass transfer of all characters, ships, etc. from current servers, it is completely, up to the customer to move ALL of our characters, mules, etc. to these new servers. AND there is NO guarantee that we get to keep our names.
Seriously???
BTW Phoenicis, my angry face is not directed at you, but at the situation at hand.
got a link to them?In the Friday at Four on September 27th Severlin mentioned that they "need to work on naming issues for transfers". NOTE: I again recommend fully watching Friday at Four September 27th and October 4th episodes, they contain a ton of information, but only up until the interview is done.
