What can change the nature of a man ?
Well, I've come to terms with it. (mainly due to cosmetic reasons... the animations and graphics are no joke fleshed out nicely).

Not every expansion can have a tail-swishing tabaxi.

I just hope the gear.... isn't so egregious that it'll basically nullify/obsolete all previous legendary gear.

I say this because I fear the expansion is going to rest more on power scaling (aka selling the player power) and not per se on the strength of the expansion offering itself. (I frankly think it's going to be a re-hashed Feywild for the most part.)

If you voted for Myth Drannor as the setting and you simultaneously complain about "another elf race" then you got exactly what you deserved and lose all privilege to complain.

ALL.
This.

If folks would have voted for Planescape/Sigil, we could have gotten Giths (Githyanki/Githzerai) instead.

The moral to the story? Be careful what you wish for.

perhaps LR +0 of Wood? choose regular sorc instead of archetype... I haven't tried it tho, but that's how it works for other Iconics to go the inverse and become the archetype instead of the regular class... u can give it a go when Lammania opens for all

No, of course not. ?

The Marketplace has a lot of Z-axis compatability. (remember what happens when you teleport with error) wish they would add some of that with the magic carpet so I can do a video montage of Aladdin.

I've seen people asking for a deep dwarf iconic for years. I've seen people excitedly theorycraft how kobold might work. Lots of folks have wanted to see halfling, h-elf, or h-orc get more love for a long time. Dragonborn are cool and unique and could have such a neat iconic.

Has there been any clamoring for eldarin? Particularly before the setting poll? Like sure, make something that ties in to the setting, but are there not setting specific dwarves? Or make the potential settings in the poll work for races people have been asking for?

Personally I would have preferred the next expac to take place in the Lag-free-ddo Realms with the new race: working ladders.

No there hasn't. At least from what I can tell.

But... I think I know what's happening. And it's fine since it supports the game we ALL love.

And no I don't care to explain.

I hope you're right that it's fine, explanation or no. I admit, I'm less optimistic about the current state of the game.

Don't get me wrong, I think Sharn and IoD and Salt marsh are good content, and I like most of the archetypes or at least the idea of them. I have a deep affection and sense of nostalgia for this game, but I'm gonna remain on the side of "less brand new stuff, more fixing things" for now. I started playing this game 15 years ago, and it's laughable that bugs and problems I saw back in college are still happening. Especially when other "problems" that the playerbase actually likes get patched out in a timely manner.

The gfx looks amazing for the new race and in particular the iconic looks really interesting to play. And.. its one more racial ap.

I am happy and to me it does not matter if lore wise it happens to be an elf or not. I respect that it matters to others but for me it matters not at all.

You have to remember that the forums are a vocal minority in most cases, the fact is that the people that voted for Myth Drannor are probably pretty happy that its Myth Drannor. Also they said the poll was more of a show of interest than something they were necessarily going to follow. I didn't vote for Myth Drannor but I'm pretty fine with that being the expansion, and neutral on the race. Its just another humanoid, I'd have preferred something a little more distinct, Githyanki are visually just green elves. Personally I think it would be nice to have some new races that arent just humans with extra parts.

Edit: I will just say in SSGs defense no other race would really have made sense for Myth Drannor. Since the war and the fall of the majority of the city, most of the population is Eldari and other "higher" elves, with smaller populations of gnomes, halflings, humans etc. I could see maybe forest gnome or ghostwise halfling making sense as a regular race there, but as an iconic, they arent.

Yea AFAIK we didn't get results of the poll so it could have been close or Not even close...so it's a Wild guess

so this line seems to have revealed the Result of that Poll https://www.ddo.com/news/ddo-producer-letter-2024

"By popular demand, our next major Expansion in the summer will take place in a fan favorite D&D location: Myth Drannor! It is among the more infamous places in the Forgotten Realms and we’re very excited to bring it to life!

personally voted for Planescape...didn't know much about Myth Drannor until recently...learning more about the lore and seeing what they been cooking up, I'm Hella digging it too (y)

it depends on how SSG is intrepreting Myth Drannor.

If done to the fullest extent of the lore the most iconic creature in Myth (the Phaerimm) will probably be a raid boss.

The Phaerimm actually eats magic for breakfast lunch and dinner and so casters will have zero affect on them.

But thats if the Devs make another boring "DPS beatdown" for raiding.

We'll see what they cook up.

While there were Phaerimm in Myth Drannor they were not a driving factor of its history.

Canonically the Phaerimm were more notorious for the destruction of Netheril by poisoning the weave and thus the life of the land the Netherese relied on. By the time the Netherese found out why their land was growing into a Desert the damage and war being waged against them was well under way. This led eventually to Karsus's Folly.

The phaerimm that dwelt within the ruined Myth Drannor and its Dwarven Dungeons, along with their red dragon dracolich ally, Pelendralaar, were driven out by the agents of the Cult of the Dragon in the Year of the Gauntlet, 1369 DR.

The Primary driver of of Myth Drannor's downfall was racial divide leading to the invasion of Infernal Legions which corrupted the Mythals therein and created multiple gates for them to access the prime material plane with much greater ease.

For hundreds of years after the Weeping War, Myth Drannor languished as fiend-infested ruins. After hundreds of years the city was reclaimed by the elves of Evermeet in the late 14th century DR. It enjoyed a century-long renaissance, before falling to ruin once more.
