Speculation on upcoming Balance Pass

As far as what I'd hope to see
More functional sources of caster level outside of enhancement trees, instead having more sources from equipment and augments etc.
Slightly increased single target base spell damage, more duration/damage for DoTs specifically
More spell options - Light/alignment spells over fourth level for divines, more acid spells for arcanes, more poison spells for blightcaster, Rend the Soul added for neg focused clerics.
CL/MCL progression in epics reworked, they can't really get rid of MCL because of the fact it'd make class spells/slas scale worse than non class sources for spells so the entire idea of how you gain caster levels after 20 needs to be assessed.
Reworks for Dark Apostate and Acolyte of the Skin trees specifically.

What I expect to see?
The next step in the saga of overbuffed mob spells, from Flame Strike, to Black Dragon Bolt to Scorching Ray it'd be sad if we don't wind up getting oneshot by acid fog next.

Removing the Feat tax on Epic Spellcasting would help a little

Instead of 1 feat per spell: Epic Mage Armour, Ruin, Greater Ruin, Mass Frog etc.

Just 1 feat: Epic Spell Casting

The Spells you gain based on your level of "Arcane Lore", "Religious Lore", or "Wilderness Lore"
Then have Epic Destinies add to your levels or Lore

I get that the R10 penalty is too high and that caster single-target damage isn't sufficient to fill a raid dps spot in situations where that dps is really needed.

But I don't get how people think sorcs are struggling in R4. A low-life sorc with 50 reaper points can easily solo R6 and up to R8 for some older legendary content. Sorcs are absolute beasts at clearing dungeons.

How about taking illusion from the half-time show to center stage by at least throwing in Shadow Conjuration, Shadow Evocation, Greater Shadow Conjuration, and Greater Shadow Evocation? Shades would a lot more iffy because the only valid options for it in DDO are Black Dragon Bolt and Incendiary Cloud for the most part. Because I have a feeling the developers really don't want to mess with opening a Pandora's Box of nested teleportation spell selectors.

Yes the spells are a bit "fiddly" as written but realistically they could be massaged in with a simple will save for half or pass/fail depending on which effect is being chosen. However they could open the door for getting damage out of Illusion DCs when Phantasmal Killer is not a viable option.

Shadow Conjuration (4th): Selectors for will save versions of Acid Blast, Glitterdust, and Web.
Shadow Evocation (5th): Selectors for will save versions of Fireball, Lightning Bolt, and Shout.
Greater Shadow Conjuration (7th): Will save versions of Acid Rain and Cloudkill. Acid Cloud could technically fit as well, but barring a rework the other two are better options.
Greater Shadow Evocation (8th): Will save versions of instant Delayed Blast Fireball, Chain Lightning, and Otiluke's Freezing Sphere.

1) The clear first step is to give all dps the same r7+ multiplier that magic alone enjoys.
2) Nerfs to nhb/ef, chains and quick cutter.
3) Nerf to Time Stop, Dragon Roar and Visage.
4) MCL buffs. Cool down buffs to caster spells and epic moments. No more 1, 2 or 3 minute Cool down.

speculation... based on past ddo "balancing" history...

warlock casting will be nerfed another 20%
Warlocks need some love more than any other class at the moment, it's not like you can cross class one (keeping the warlock functionality) to fix it, or just play a different kind of warlock. We have Dark Bargainers that don't have a single beneficial epic destiny. And whenever the discussion is brought up you're just told to play a sub par tank - no, I want to play a warlock that's why I made a warlock if I wanted to be a tank I would have made a tank! I hate peoples solutions to balance issues being - just play something you don't want to play.

That is mostly a social dynamic. Right now everyone is getting told that casters are terrible.

I am not saying that sorcs are bad in R4 - but could you show us a R6 run of a longer Chill or MD quest preferably one with few shrines and no pot use solo on a low life sorc? Mind, not a 60 min run but a reasonably non-slow run.

Social or not, long standing endgame caster players have been rerolling into other playstyles or stopped logging in.

We definitely still see powerful DC casters but nukers are extinct when it comes to endgame players as far as I can tell and that was the case before Trickster - now at least some can play Trickster if they want to.

Have you played a warlock in epic levels? No DPS and can't get their dcs high enough to matter. Shouldn't all classes equally at least stand a chance in R10. Or are you saying if you rolled a caster this content is just off limits to you and you should have rolled something else?

What about the gear requirements to be an ok melee in high reaper you need ok gear, to be an ok caster even a DC caster that relies on melee to damage the things they control you need perfect gear and to squeeze every last DC you can get.

Not to mention spells bars. One big fight can wipe out a casters ability to do anything. The spell bar trade off used to be high DPS for a limited time so needing to choose your battles etc, now the dps is no higher than melee and not where near close to ranged, other parts of the trade off include being squishy, but now they are squishy with limited attack capabilities and lag behind all other palystyles in everyway. The only place they shine is low to mid reaper heroics.

Spreading stuff like it's a social dynamic won't help the obvious balance issues.

I am European so I do not play on Shadowdake and possibly not the same time either

Plus - we have staying summer guests atm so my ability to play is a bit limited.

I will get back to you later if noone else has done so.

A low life Sorcerer with 50 Reaper points. Are you trolling. None of my toons have anywhere close to 50 reaper points. in fact i dont think i have a toon with 20 reaper points. Casual gamesr will be lucky to have double digit reaper points at best.

Until they either lower the monsters DC's or greatly increase the DC's that are obtainable through feats and enhancements. Casters are always going to be relegated to players

1. best gear
2. Lost of past lives and reaper points.

On my melee and range toons, my tactical abilities easily bypass the monsters DC. On my casters 90% - 95% of my spells are saved against the monsters DC.

Just take a look at how easy it is to get DC's for Melee and range toons. Until they address this balance, casters are really only worth playing by a small portion of the playerbase.

Sounds good, happy to help you level up an iconic to 20 when you are free - I will probably be busy with the new expansion but after that I have few alts I want to tr to a new iconic.

I am usually up early so I am sure we can make the timing works.

I am guessing Snowfall and Sunlight might be a decent quest to go for.
