SSG: Please confirm if there will be Rare Loot Mechanic for "The Chill of Ravenloft"

Here's a reasonable compromise, keep the POS rare loot mechanic, and make the percentage of getting said rare loot higher so PAYING CUSTOMERS get what they paid for. If this **** is going to be advertised we actually need to get what we are paying for. That, and / or update the crafting system so we can craft masterful craftmanship onto items as well as some other crafting concepts that have been floating around.

Rare drops is the only way to go, keep up the great work! Ordered the big package for my main and the $40 package for my 5 minion accounts.

First time in a long time dropping cash on accounts 3-6 all because of the Rare Loot System. Don't let the "holdouts" get you down, we know this system keeps the lights on and is a big win!
Just buy the big pack on all alt accounts.

Oh! Did you not get the shiny you wanted!? And how did that make you feel? Chance of getting loot with rare loot system: rarely. Chance of getting loot with not buying content: zero. I play the GAME for fun not to "keep up with the Jones'" give it a try!

No thank you.

This game had traditionally an older core player base than most.

I’d assume most of the posters on the forums are the smaller percentage of young players. It would explain all the belly aching over $140 spend for content you will play often for a year and less often for the rest of the games time.

For the price of a decent single round of golf. So many posts about protecting $140. There is a movie night $40 version available. My teenage boys wouldn’t even struggle paying that.

$140 is back breaking. The Loot is impossible to get. Cracks me up.

With that being said, I hope you all get what you want now. You’ve convinced me.

I love playing and enjoy it as is. No reason for everyone else that plays the game weekly to be miserable though, dragging thru an hour of pain and suffering chasing prizes they dream about but have no hope to attain.

I’m happy, devs please listen to the others and help them be happy.

Solid, thanks for Varr!

It's not about the money for me either...I'd happily pay triple the expansion fee for less farming. For me rares have fundamentally changed how the game is played:
  • Nearly non-stop farming LFMs of single quests became typical for LFMs and boring for me in MD. I loved the original Ravenloft saga b/c it was 12 quests and I know each like the back of my hand, but they never became boring.
  • Killed gear tetris for me; the time to collect rares meant that some options on gear tetris were off the table or I'd moved on to another build before I could get the desired item.
  • Some players became burnt out or frustrated or ran out of money for shards and I lost buddies to play with.

Dude $140 is an INSANE price for an expansion (not even a full game), and a 20 year old game with Nintendo 64 graphics from 1997 to boot.

Think about what you could buy with $140 ,

I got the above for $150 and the helmet was still in its plastic bag unopened and wearable!

I want a wearable head of SteelStar, so I can play DDO looking through the eyes of SteelStar.

Where is my SteelStar helmet/face mask?

That’s pretty sweet!

The game is not $140, it’s free. Or if you want to participate in the newest content $40.

Or if you are an early adopter, pay up and it’s $140 for a package full of stuff, made for someone, and be cool. My bot accounts are deff not cool.

Early adopters in every walk of life always pay a premium. Play the game for free, $140 means different things to different folks.

Plenty of players just paid it.

Some forget (or were not around) but used to be that the best loot was from Wounding of Puncturing a randomly applied effect on random gen loot weapons. No way to really farm....only hope was good RNG. And they think MD is rare.

I still remember making build mistakes and having to re-roll the entire toon from scratch. The world now is so soft and easy....back in the day it was harsh and cruel....and we grew strong from it.

if it doesn't kill us it makes us old and grumpy?!

jk...I have this song stuck in my head that goes something like: "it was better before" & a competing song that says "have we ever lived in better times"....too many voices in my head...I wish I had a game to escape to, a fantasy world of magic and dragons ;)

Kobolds don't matter. *Except in Crystal Cove.
Considering whale multiboxers can get up 24x (!) more chances at loot *before* ransack potions, that "work (ingame) for your loot" point is kinda moot. $$$ for your loot?
Moot point. If you give it away to everyone, what's the point of grinding? What's the point in playing the quests? Where is the challenge if you are handed everything? Why not just give coin and Cannith Essences in every chest and skip the loot? Those whales, good for them, they want to waste money like that then SSG has income.

so PAYING CUSTOMERS get what they paid for
Oh, those, OMG, PAYING CUSTOMERS who whines about how rare MD's loot is, while being on their 46586576434 Jibbers run ? Those PAYING CUSTOMERS ?

Or, maybe, those PAYING CUSTOMERS, who cried out loud they won't buy MD because they are waiting for level 40 level cup with the level 40 loot and don't need anything in between ? But somehow they were the first ones who bought MD and began to cry they can't get loot they previously stated they don't need ? Those PAYING CUSTOMERS ?

And some people still wonders why the devs "don't listen"...

we actually need to get what we are paying for
And you get it!
Check the product's description, SSG sells you X dungeons + Y raids + Z cosmetics. They don't sell you loot ! You didn't pay for those items.

But there was a good way to farm...

At level cap 10, it as giant caves in Threnal.
At level cap 12, it was getting dozens of death penalties while running through Whisperdoom to find the 3 optionals to get a crazy end reward list, etc.
The ways to farm high level loot was just finding the highest chest levels in the game that you could ransack easily... particularly if it was an end reward list that would populate a choice.
But the big thing you're missing is... there were trade forums and you just gave someone large scales and you could have your very own WOP rapier.

strong points, unlocking god mode in a game is the easiest way to kill a game.

I just asked googles AI: "how much failure in a game is desired" and the statistics and psychology behind it all are very fascinating...stuff like:

Here's a breakdown of perspectives on failure rates in games:
  • For skilled players: A higher success rate (60-75%) for typical actions is generally preferred, as it allows players to feel competent and skilled. However, even experienced gamers spend a significant amount of time failing (up to 80% for the best players), emphasizing that failure is a crucial part of the learning and engagement process.
  • For a wider audience: Games with a standard difficulty for the average player often aim for a roughly 50% success rate on standard checks. This provides a fighting chance while still allowing skilled players to feel their expertise come into play. Some research suggests players feel challenged but not discouraged when the success rate is around 60%, meaning just over half of attempts should succeed.
  • For challenging games: Games like Dark Souls and Celeste embrace difficulty and player failure as a core part of the experience. In these games, failure is a learning opportunity and a motivator for improvement. The pain of failure intensifies the sense of accomplishment upon success, making the experience more rewarding.

In conclusion, the "desired" level of failure in a game is a delicate balance. It needs to be challenging enough to be engaging but not so difficult that it leads to frustration and abandonment. Ultimately, a successful game embraces failure as a learning opportunity and a key element of the gameplay experience.

Love all the Dark Souls games...hate rares, so you know, balancing around that can't be easy.

Seems you are missing the point. For me it's not about the 140$. It's about the fact that for Myth and Chill they charge as much as previous ones, and on top of that expect us to pay extra in microtransactions and still not have a reasonable chance to get what we could in the past.

while being on their 46586576434 Jibbers run ?
Total tangent here but...............while waiting for this expansion to drop, I decided to spend a month for the first time ever and ran all 6 accounts to cap with cast off hardcore toons mostly. I ran 7 runs of TTT to get the 4 bot accounts jibbers (makes me feel whole.) 3 jibbers in 42 pulls with no rerolls or pots or trick. One to go, just a little Jibbers rarity recent experience. Very small sample size, and I am luckier than most being the favorite of the Gods. But just last week I got one per 14 pulls or so. Keep your heads up if farming it.

Don't let the tangent distract you as evidence I'm getting 6 shots a chest. This was a very rare set of runs for me. As mentioned before, my main loots and about every 4th or 5th end chest my second account loots.

There are many points being tossed around but to yours...............time is money and your time has a value. Either run more quests for the chance to get your item or pay to reroll. I don't like paying to reroll, so don't. The core issue is you don't believe you have a reasonable chance, and I do believe the chance is reasonable.

For me and my experience, I drained MD of everything I wanted in 3 months. This is the first of these threads I've really sunk my teeth into, but as the pages add more and more players are chiming in on my side of the fence. No longer feeling like a minority of one, but still believe I'm in the forum minority.

There is a much larger percentage of active players that are triple completionist everything that are stuck either looping raids or farming new content than I think many understand. Make the new content loot to easy to acquire and it raids only. The new content is more for them (us) than the standard player. Standard players have the whole rest of the game for free to play getting life #16 or a good level 20 gear set.

I've said this before, and I'm saying it again now:

IF these 'boycotts' are ever successful in actually impacting SSG/Daybreak's bottom line I don't think the results will be what you want them to be.
If the game dies, I get all my free time back. That isn't a bad thing either.

We have an abusive relationship with the SSG developers and you are basically telling us that we will never find anyone better. This is not a fight the developers need to win. Especially since they don't care. It is simply about money. They are going to do whatever makes the most profit. It is our job to make sure that the most profitable thing is the one we want to happen, rather than the one we don't want to happen. If we continue to pay them extra money (as a group) to make us less happy, then we get what we deserve.
