SteelStar Asks: (U69.3) What Effects Are Hard To Find On Quest Loot?

I like the Stormreaver's Thunderclap and similar lightning/thunder effects on loot, but iirc since KT ml 28 gloves there is no item with that effect. It is not an OP effect could be on non raid loot too.
Incorrect, 2 more weapon from FoM and 1 more gloves from PN. ;)

Also we have slightly other version - Cloudburst for 5 more items, one is ML6. 8)

Hey, everyone!

We've had a couple of really good feedback threads on loot in the past few months, a lot of you have brought strong ideas to the table that influenced both the direction of loot and the individual items.

With Myth Drannor having been out for a while and the followup Raid dropping very shortly, it's time to look toward what loot comes next. While we're not ready to talk about specifics, I did want to bring up a topic for discussion that will help us know what you want to see:

As of U69.3, what effects are you looking for that are hard to find in Quest Loot?

A few guidelines for discussion:
  • We're talking about Quest Loot specifically here, not Raid Loot
  • Some effects are intentionally uncommon on Quest Loot, as they're considered Raid-tier effects.
  • We're giving some preference to effects that didn't appear in Myth Drannor and would synergize well with those items.
  • Sun and Moon Augment Slots are likely going to continue to exist on new items!
  • As a result, in the near term we're not likely to do new Set Bonuses, as Sun and Moon Augments fill that role on those items.
  • We still do not intend to make combined Sun+Moon Augment Slots, or add Sun or Moon slots to item slots that didn't get that slot in Myth Drannor (no Moon Slots on Helms, Sun Slots on Boots, etc).
How about just release the loot to normal drop rates that are already in the quests... Sheesh. The tone deafness is at an all-time high here. Can you really miss the boat this badly?

What I would also love to see in DDO is an instrument slot for bards.

While we're at it, I also suggest that all classes should have the ability to handle traps and locks.
More Instruments! Yesssss. Flute, drum, horn. DOOT DOOT.
A universal tree or destiny could be introduced which grants rogue skills. But... is it really D&D if you can solo everything?

"Unwieldy" for 2 reasons:
This. Anything that has a negative stat/bonus balanced with a really good stats. I LOVE things like Ring of Baphomet (even the legendary version) and Insanity. It makes things UNIQUE.

  • extra lay on hands items
  • raging strength
  • new quiver
  • enhanced bloodrage
  • monk exclusive effects like the stance ones
  • melody imperial resonance
  • sea/fire attunement, greater water elemental form
  • alchemical attunements
Highlighted the things highly agree with.
Stance & form items are cool/fun. Would love to see something similar working for Warlock pacts and Druids (especially the new forms for Blightcaster) in the future.
Alchemical bonuses are hard to come by, but maybe they should be?

My suggestions:
  • Craftable items:
    • Solar & lunar gem slot item(s)
    • Anything Legendary Craftable with a set bonus (Legendary Mysterious Ring?)
    • Sonic Blast craftable Runearm.
  • Trap the Soul (not guard. The effect found on Necronimicannon)
  • Weaken Undead (this is fantastic, moar!)
  • Limb Chopper
  • Dragon Mark enhancement items (all dwarf tanks would love you)
  • Antimagic Spike (more items that apply defensive effects offensively!)
  • Telekenisis Guard
  • Heroism / Greater Heroism
  • Good Luck (that isn't a trinket)
  • Defiance (a legendary version with higher DR perhaps? This is really cool niche effect)
  • Mystic Incite
  • Sacred
  • Soul Eating
  • Plant Slaying (this would be hilariously useful for some quests, moar!)
  • Bonuses while Raging items
  • Wild Frenzy (this effect is so fun! Insanity is such a fun item)

i would love to see the following(pipe dream):

more defensive feats on more gear. stuff like wind through the trees and what not.
i like helping my low rxp butt survive on the rxp train solo.

sacred DC access. sacred dc is annoying to obtain and the only reason im still using my dino bone artifact honestly.

exceptional dc. love more access to easier dcs for caster builds.

alchemical spellpowers. just a nice thing to have, i know potions arent to hard to obtain but still nice.

more weird alignment stuff like superior stability. give us a reason to play other alignments outside of forced ones. flavor is fun sometimes.

A re-work or un-nerf of Mortal Fear effect would be Keen.

Elemental Bypass for a few seconds on Vorpal melee or ranged would be awesome.

How about more clickies on items, possibly like Titans Grip or something useful. Maybe even another Ring of the Ancestors type clickie from Slavers of the Shrieking Mines. Something that can be useful like stat enhancers or spell power boosts, possibly even a dimension door, teleport, or greater teleport clickies.

I'd love to see runarm-based stuff that doesn't assume you're a robot artificer. With the addition of Machrotechnic this feels even more annoying. More items with Runearm DC, etc.

Items that augment Bard Songs. We have a couple things right now, but there's a lot more design space available. An item that adds +x to the bard mana song would be amazing. This ability gets less and less relevant the higher level we get. At level 12 two mana/tick is amazing, at 34 not so much. The heal song at least scales with spell power so it can stay useful forever. As it stands right now, the mana song is not a T5 ability.

Set bonuses. at lvls 30+
I mean ones like we had on lvl 29 gear.

I've got a Pale Master that I just can't upgrade my gear on, because I lose too many things I like.
Also other classes.

I had really good gear sets at lvl 29, with bonuses that just don't exist on higher level gear.

Also Parrying. Seems to vanish after lvl 29.
I think a lot of PRR/MRR vanished after lvl 29 gear also.

I would be perfectly fine if the set bonuses and stuff like Parrying didn't actually scale higher, but I want it on higher level gear that does have things that scale higher. (if that makes sense.)

Oh, and something that has always bothered me....

I play "Good" characters.
But all the best loot is Evil.

I get that we are looting stuff from bad guys' bodies, but we need "good" effects for our heroes.

The current game's combat balance is based on weapon crits. Sure, there are lots of non-crit damage sources but a crit is just way too important to allow extended crits anymore. If the weapon math was adjusted to make crits no more valuable than other damage sources, this would definitely be fun though.
Well, at the moment, crits are what make a lot of weapons very valuable of course. But what I'm saying is that it couldn't hurt to add a bit of diversity to the top crit weapons. So instead of your barbarian using SoS/Riftmaker, they use whatever other new weapons drop.
This is mostly for leveling, though, as most endgame weapons don't have extended crits.
