Hello everyone, happy release day for Myth Drannor! I've got a topic for discussion during today's downtime:

We're working on the Raid Loot for a raid that's coming out a little down the line, and would like some insight into what effects players would like to see on that loot. Here's what we're looking at:

Unchangeable Parts:
  • There will be around 20 named items in this Raid's loot table.
  • The items will be Minimum Level 33.
  • There can potentially be an upgrade system (to the named items in the raid, Myth Drannor quest loot, or both)
  • There can not be an extensive build-your-own crafting system (like Dino Bone crafting)
  • Sun and Moon Augment Slots can only exist on the slots they exist on in Myth Drannor quest loot
  • There is new, unique art for the following item types:
    • Rapier
    • Shortsword
    • Shuriken
    • Kukri
    • Longbow
    • Scimitar
    • Falchion
    • Orb
    • Quarterstaff
    • Throwing Dagger
    • Kama
    • Large Shield
      • This means we are aiming to make these item types for this Raid - Feedback on these item types is especially important
      • It also means we are unlikely to make items for this Raid that need art but aren't on this list (Helms, armor, cloaks, other weapons, etc), though it is possible - It just wouldn't have unique art. As we said above, upgrading some of the Myth Drannor quest loot could be an option here.

Useful Feedback:
For the purpose of this thread, actionable constructive feedback factors in the following:
  • Contains what you do want to see, not (just) what you don't want to see
  • Is specific about effects when possible, or frames out the purpose of the item you want to see
  • Stays within the rules of the Unchangeable Parts above
And please remember: This thread is in Official Discussions. Official Discussions do not permit debates between players and are more heavily moderated than typical threads. Stay on topic!

First off, thank you Steelstar for your (and the team's) hardwork on creating content like this. My dude... we're going on 20 years and we're still getting solid AAA content! Amazing.

OK, in terms of those weapons. There is one absolutely mandatory requirement (on all of them).

All the weapons MUST, MUST, MUST have some kind of debuffer in league with LGS dust on them or they will be instantly inferior to Dino weapons (and thus undesirable short of cosmetics). This is what happened with the Vecna weapons.

You can twist and turn all the numbers all you like but a straight up 30%+ increase of ALL outgoing damage is just unbeatable.

The other alternative is of course to nerf the debuffs like LGS Dust but I doubt you guys will do that.

Anyway, happy dev'ing !

Hi Steelstar

I wonder why the Greatsword is not on the List of Weapons. It would be very sad to see if the greatsword would not have any new Raiddrops in this expansion.

Maybe one that is not pure Lightning based.. but something else magical ? Force or maybe Acid ? or some type of special Magical thing.

Maybe something to finally replace the Sword of Shadows ? :)

Sincerely

Regarding orbs, I'd like to see a comeback for temp sp proc like on stygian wrath/respendent fury, but for on any spellcast. It might be nice to have for raids for some people, and it is a design space that is rather open (temp sp currently only comes for neg/cold/fire/light, or in primal avatar destiny mantle), and it offers a trade off regarding using two 1-handed weapons or a shield. At worst case it's a swap item.
It fits the magic theme of myth drannor. It could be a ball of literal awoken/wild magic or something (I know you already have art, this is just ideas).

It could have force/untype absorb as well, something that isn't common on gear and fits thematically, ooh or maybe 5 spell absorption charges.
Permanent Efficacy maybe as well with the usual sun or moon augment slots.

A clear upgrade to heart of Suulomades, with the same curse immunity + vanguard flavours on proc, and tank flavours on being hit.

Bonus points if it is the shield, so it becomes an opportunity cost vs the hp% shields, but not at great detriment.

Super bonus points if it is an artifact.

It should also have hidden effect buffs that boost based on the lore the character has, divine/arcane/primal, or based on class (legendary bone paws if druid, cha to hit damage if paladin, +primal hp% if barb, etc)

Speaking more broadly, I'm a fan of effects that are more interesting & unusual rather than just pure power creep - items that grant proficiency in themselves, ones that let you remain centered & allow use of alternative stats for to-hit & damage can open up some fun combinations, as can effects that grant extra bonuses for specific classes or class features & actions, eg. an extra bonus that scales with arcane/religious/wilderness lore, or something that applies when using an action boost, uncanny dodge or after tumbling. You'll want to tie it into the lore too where possible.

For a specific example, a large shield. Force or crystal as the material type, have it grant the shield use & shield deflection feats, no arcane spell failure, give it the orb bonuses to saves & resistances while blocking a la the purple dragon knight shield & have it proc a 30sec radiant shield on being hit once every 180secs & the usual augment slots for it's type. If there's an upgrade system available, have it's upgrade be to add a clicky that lets you use a combined nullmagic aura & radiant shield on your entire party once every 5 mins. Call it "Fragment of the Mythallar".

From a casual raider (join raids when I see them on the LFM but don't normally join "scheduled" raids), I'd like to see at least one or two pieces that can have specific affects crafted on to them. Think Collective Sight or even Cannith Crafting. This will allow those of us who cannot easily build the "perfect" set some higher level options that still are within the Sun/Moon augment system.

I' d like to see weapons which have an alternative solution of the feareater + deconstructor augments. Those augments are so superior that it is almost not possible to slot anything else for a melee.
Instakill and fortification bypass + adamantine dr is a very strong combo to ignore.

Also would like to see support for hybryd builds (melee/caster). Items which give useful stats and abilities for meleeing and at the same time will push 1 school of stacking spell dc.

Another idea for items: it gives the user a constant aura with a specific passive function if a mob enters into the aura like:
  • lowering saves
  • chance to freeze/confusion/paralise/etc
  • knock down/trip/entagled/etc
  • some random buffs like the Scion of Limbo for 1 min each (can be other buffs)
  • quad damage for a short period of time which procs on kills/vorpal/HP fall under a certain %/etc...
  • boost spell DC for a short period of time proccing on getting hit/HP falls under a certain %/etc

We need an entirely new and different upgrade system. Something that will require completely different mats, a completely new crafting interface, and a really convoluted upgrade path that requires at least 4 different completely new rare bound ingredients and at least 3 steps to make another completely new ingredient that only requires 500 each of the 4 different ingredients. Oh, and make the drop rate for the new ingredients 1 per raid.

Personally I've always liked the concept of magical weapons like Sun Blade that give certain weapon type users the ability to use an other type of weapon they are not proficient with. In Sun Blade case it's a Short Sword that is actually a Bastard Sword. Maybe a Scimitar that is actually a Falchion, Long Sword that is a Greatsword, Light Hammers that is actually a War Hammer, Sickle/Kukri that is a Kopesh or Throwing Dagger that are Throwing Short Swords. Anyway, just some quick and not well thought ideas. Weapons like this always give me so many idea's for wanting to try new builds.

Also maybe transforming weapons like Bloodborne, a Cane that is a Club but can transform into Rapier. A Long/Bastard Sword that can transform into a Greataxe. Or a Quarterstaff that can also become a Bow.

And still wanting Hand Crossbows that look like Flintlock pistols haha.

The only way to really make these weapons even competitive with dino is to give them decent weapon procs and debuffs or insane weapon procs with no debuffs. And by weapon procs I mean something not in the game yet that is competitive.

The shield should actually provide some better blocking dr and more AC than just use copy paste from every shield since Feywild.

Orb/staff should provide some unique/higher bonuses to choice of spellpower/lore/dc.

Fitting perfectly with the wild magic of the expansion, an Eternal Wand of Wonder would be neat. Some chances for bad effects, with a lot of variety of good effects possible too, but never knowing which effect will happen upon the next use. You already have Potions of Wonder dropping in the game all over the place, and some items that have the effect type.

I'd like to see a light or heavy crossbow that gives special ammo, similar to the one from Sharn. This was a really nice idea to add some variety to ranged builds (it wouldnt necessarily have to be aoe ammo, just something interesting). Another option could be a new holy short sword that allows strikethrough, much like Sun Blade and Celestia. This adds some nice synergy with divines.
