Suggestion: add casual raid difficulty

Just going to preface this with: I have zero interest in this suggestion myself, it's not something I need as I don't have issues getting & doing raids. But from other posts, some people have trouble finding raid groups based off their time zone & current server populations and/or have trouble with even normal difficulty raids (if they try to solo/shortman them as result of not finding full groups). So on that note:

Add casual difficulty to raids (as that difficulty already exists for quests) and let hires be useable in casual difficulty mode (to make it easier for people to solo/shortman that need that extra help); just make the loot rate/runes acquired low enough that's a heavy trade-off vs normal raiding difficulties.

(*obviously a few raids would still be mechanically impossible to solo, but that's when short manning would come into play)

It would be easier to have elmins- uhh 'people' who complain just transfer servers to a bigger population to get carried, till they learn.

Like floaties for a kid who is jealous of other kids swimming.

I'd love casual raids but in sandbox mode as it were.
No raid loot, no tokens, suitable low xp, and very important no raid timer.

It's not the raids that people don't like. It's people that make them feel bad about not knowing what to do or messing up. The raid crowd can be... Intense.

They should have heroic versions of the raids.
It's stupid that you have to wait 15-18 levels to reach the conclusion of a story line.

I think you can throw the casuals a few runes. If they can offer more rewards to those demanding a challenge mode because without the rewards they won't actually run it, I think they can throw a bone to casuals.

I know a bunch of casuals from my ex guild and they dont deserve an easy mode to play in permadeath for their hack play-style(i mean they have level 32’s running level 8 quests in permadeath, please dont give them easy raid mode), i want them to continue to have to rely on the one or two players that carry them and be under their control, its a good fit

Thank you, Mister Rabidfox, for seeking a better solution to the raid problem than, "Jump into the deep end and try not to drown. Good luck. *small voice* Loser is gonna drown.".

I have soloed three raids--Heroic/Epic Chronoscope, Heroic/Epic Zawabi's Revenge, and Heroic Tempest's Spine. Those are the only pick up group raids I will consider joining precisely because I know what to do. (Epic Tempest's Spine is just too tough to solo. I have not attempted to solo any other Legendary raid because Vryxnr told me Tempest's Spine is the easiest.)

I have never finished a DDO pick up group raid for 5 reasons: 1) The raid leader set the difficulty too high. 2) My character is outside the allowed level range. 3) I am already doing something when the raid notice appears. 4) I never see the raid notice. 5) I do not know how the raid works.

My favorite raid resources are the raid guides written by vryxnr. When he writes a guide, "How to solo blahblahblah", I take those posts very seriously.

If a casual raid mode existed, or if detailed solo guides existed for more raids, I would very probably try more raids. :D

I am not asking for anything to change.

Please feel free to ignore this post and brag about your personal awesomeness. That will totally make everything better. (y)

I leave you with some cat faces because I feel like it. ?

As a suggestion, look to reavers fate and vod and lord of blades and master artificer as your next raids to solo

Von and twilight forge are also very doable with a very short crew but not solo because of really dumb, we try and force people to group mechanics.

Grouping is fine and fun but do we need to force it?

I'd talked with my friends about this before too, and think it'd be a great idea. Some of my friends don't like to party with random people. They don't like or want to talk to strangers. BUT, if we were able to casual shortman some of the raids to learn them, they might feel comfortable enough to tag along.

Wouldn't even need hirelings available, just the casual difficulty, but wouldn't mind if that was available. And like people pointed out, the drop rate would be low that it's not like it could be taken advantage of to get items easy or anything. What IS the drop rate on casual anyay, 6%?

It may not be fair to be able to acquire any raid loot on that casual difficulty so if they put 0% drop chance for all named loot and igredients on raid casual i do not see why not implement it.

WoW just introduced "hirelings" for dungeons, SWTOR has a Solo mode for flashpoints where you get a droid companion for combat support. The main reason for that is to enable all players to see the story and experience the content.

So it makes sense to make a casual that would be easier and to enable hirelings for that one.

But for balance purposes, no named loot or ingredient drops for that difficulty.

this will allow experienced players to study different aspects of a raid also for purposes of leading them. For example, our guild does PN regularly but I do not know how to do the codes. I can see myself studying this on casual.

Ok I can go in sometime and study it on normal too, maybe not the most inspiring example…

I am not certain how that is balance. It just seems like wanting to punish those that don't (or can't) play the way you want them to. Balance seems more like giving them a sufficiently small amount so that it doesn't reward better than the more challenging methods.

Thank you, Narc. A couple years back, Vryxnr provided me with a bunch of information for soloing raids. At the time, I was leveling a dozen characters to 30/32 and chasing lots of equipment. The idea was to create end game ready characters for groups, raids, and solo raids. It did not work. The characters were just not that great, suitable groups never appeared, and it takes years to build an equipment set in this game. (And if finding equipment is bad, whoa, Nellie!, the augments!)

When the good people at Standing Stone Games gift me with The Isle of Dread later this year, I may make another attempt to equip my many level 32 characters. Maybe. Even if I decide to try, equipping will take years. At the end of that very long road, I may try more raids.

The raid that most interests me is Legendary Tempest's Spine because I want some of the clothing. (As an aside, it took me three years to find a pair of Rock Boots from Red Rain. Sheesh.) Other than that, the raid I am most likely to solo is the one with a good walkthrough. I probably know enough about Twilight Forge to give that one a try.

.....

Some of you are extremely silly. Have you actually played anything on Normal? Anything? It takes _forever_ for a named item drop. If a named item does drop, you have a one in many chance of finding the thing you actually want. Even running Normal with 5 characters, it takes me months and months to find the right things for an equipment set. (Hard with 5 characters is _much_ better...if the character is strong enough to pull it off. Very time consuming, though)

For raids, have you ever looked at the number of ingredients that drop on Normal? Have you ever compared that number to what you need to make anything? You are worried that someone running a hypothetical casual raid, with even less equipment and ingredients dropping, will ever find or make anything? Right. You are worried that someone soloing a raid on Casual or Normal, with the raid taking 10 times as long, will somehow out smart real raiders banging through raids in 10 minutes on high difficulty? Right.

Okay. Since no one told some of you, those mushrooms you pick up in quests--they are for Cannith Crafting. You're not supposed to eat them.

Still not asking for anything. Not. A. Thing. Just...silly. Lots of silly around here.

Here are some more cute cats. And a ninja covered in cat hair.

All the ones i mentioned about soloing above are basically single room fights, with some having a short path to get to that fight or an offshoot path to be able to complete the raid(reavers fate). All usually have one tricky mechanic to understand but on normal can be very manageable with active play. Our permadeath team ran all of these in hardcore and we are not genuine raiders, nor do we care for raiding or especially endgame raiding or grinding. Honestly if you dont find raids fun just dont play them you wont be missing anything.

Small chance and no chance are both "punishments".

The question is why would someone who plays low difficulties need powerful raid items? If someone plays easier difficulties they do not need them.

People who want to get raid items on casual are those who want an easy button to get powerful raid items on low difficulty so that they would be able to grind the best equipment for low effort.

So yes, it IS balance to have 0 chance for that.

This is a really nice idea to enable people to experience the story and content, but it should not make the top gear easier to get in the process. If that was the true intent behind this suggestion then no thanks.
