Suggestion for More Platinum sinks

Would it be helpful to attempt to make platinum more valuable to add a plat cost to favor turn-ins? Obviously low level turn ins should remain free or be cheap for newer players, but what if the second and third tier favor turn-ns had a significant cost. I am think about the cost of the second inventory slot from Coin Lords as a model. Or maybe the cost could scale the more favor turn-ins you make (not sure if there is tech for this) This would be a relatively optional cost, but many favor rewards have real use and value.

The first thing I would suggest is a currency reform (or platinum squish): every platinum we have turns into one copper. The 32-bit cap of roughly 4.29 million platinum stays exactly where it is – no database change needed – but since everyone's wealth is divided by 1,000, a character that was sitting at the cap now holds about 4,294 platinum. That means we all have a thousand times the old headroom again. The logical consequence would be an automatic increase in the value of platinum in general.

Of course, additional platinum sinks would be necessary too. For example, vendors could sell potent heal and spell point potions for a high price – or something else a player can actually use in quests. Maybe potions that protect you from certain effects instead of removing them: a curse protection potion could cost a thousand times as much as a curse removal potion.

I'm sure there are many more and better ideas for meaningful platinum sinks in DDO.

All of this assumes, of course, that SSG actually cares about platinum remaining a currency that is really used in DDO – especially for trading between players.

If you're overwhelmed by all the plat you have, you can just mail me a 1,000,000 plat at a time until you feel your situation is resolved.
Are you on Moonsea? I’d like to offload a few m

Or add a vendor selling stacking +% exp pots and you’ll see plat gaining value again. Even 1% would get a lot of sales

I think some kind of Platinum squish could also be helpful

Go old school might and magic style rules, and you need to pay the NPC to train you to the next level, because it takes their time and effort. ;)
This would wipe out most of the plat in the game almost immediately depending on how nasty the scaling is for leveling up...

Edit 1 :: Multiple TR's get discounts because they're "repeat customers" ^__^
edit 2 :: Vets/VIPs pay less

The whole random looting could use a full rework in the next two years - green loot, the random loot gen, ammunition / scroll / pot / "rare store loot", quest rewards, platinum amounts and subsequently platinum sinks/costs... most of it is fairly irrelevant in endgame. Not all bad, but feels almost entirely like a desiccating relic of past ddo and hasn't kept with the times - even essence crafting doesn't work for 20+ due to set bonuses / sun/moon augments so even the double augment items have limited use.

The only random drops that get a "ooh, shiny" -reaction from me are random augment drops, filigrees and curse cleansers. Quest rewards have almost nothing of note - it's just comms, seeds and renown with the very rare double aug slot item for twink gear crafting if you bother to hover over the bases you care about ./ rings for some endgame setups.

Platinum sinks are not plentiful. There's cosmetics, certain scrolls/pots and.. maybe if you're still building your guild ship up, then theres some sinks there - but for a huge portion of the playerbase, most platinum sinks simply aren't relevant anymore.

Further, they have little incentive to make plat useful, sadly. They have Astral Shards and their DDO Store goods. Why make (new) cosmetics for plat, when they can make cosmetics rare loot or coffer sourced?

They do have a chance to give platinum some new sinks with the potential Reaper/caster balance patch later this year, but we'll see.

Easiest plat sink that doesn't boof anyone else:

Buy some random 2,000,000 buyout thing off AH. Pick up item from mail. Yeet it out of backpack. Repeat as necessary.

Think of the poor sod receiving those 2m plat and theirnplat cap 😄

The Copper-Platinum system isn't necessary to gameplay, but is still kind of nice for the world immersion since we're built on settings where that is the finance. But practically everything in the game could just be some number of platinum.

The bigger issue is the lack of things worth buying, especially for veterans. The shard exchange is fine as it is, a system of real money for an exchangeable but not simple Tradable currency is reasonable, encourages us to keep paying for the product we use frequently. But what I would like to see if it doesn't exist yet is a form of Named Loot bounty system. Finding people to help us grind for gear can be hard since there isn't really much reward if you aren't getting something you need. But pay a certain amount of platinum per run, higher amount if they give you the item drop you wanted. More players pulling, more expensive but more likely to get the item. Need some money to pay for a few loot runs- do some runs for someone else. This is something the community cooouuulllld try to self regulate on Honor System.

"LFGear- Leg Light armor Crownblade- paying 10k plat/player/run, 500k for item".
"LFGear- buying sentient food passes- 50k/item passed"

8 runs to ransack, 5 potential bounty hunters, even if no one gets/passes the drop you're out 400k. Get the item and buy on very last run where everyone was there all 8 runs, you've spent under 1 million on something you otherwise couldn't have gotten unless someone was generous. And with end game randomly generated loot we don't have a reason to take and sell being in the ballpark of 2.5k/item before Haggle, we can easily recoup some Bounty payment by just running the quests and taking the trash to sell later as normally.

We basically turn each other into that platinum sink and we feel like we're getting something that we could then use to encourage others to help us later. An in game system would help to make sure people didn't get cheated out of promised payment, but there would need to be a real reason for the devs to devote time to making that for us. And it doesn't guarantee that people actually pass you the items and don't just walk away with your platinum. But at the end of the day, its Plat, what else are we spending it on but Wings and weirdly inflated auction items. It also helps solve the issue of not being able to buy/sell BTA/C items, but if we pay people to help us grind the gear they're incentivized to find a Buyer over just selling to a tavern for 1/100 what they could make selling to a player.

This could arguably create some amount of 'market value' for items that otherwise can't sell, and levels out some prices on the actual auction where people are asking a million for an item that doesn't feel worth 1/4 your maximum money. It would also be nice to have a Bounty system in the Auction tabs where you post what you're looking for, and anyone can put that item into the tab and receive the payment instead of the other way around looking to Sell

I definitely see where some people will immediately dislike a system that they normally engage in for free, and they are more than welcome to continue to do so without asking/negotiating a price to pass. Its just an idea to create that plat sink that incentivizes cooperative helpful player interaction. You do loot runs for others to make some plat to afford your own loot runs. Maybe not enough players would utilize it to justify an in game official system being made, but there shouldn't be harm in trying it individually and seeing how results go.

I wouldn't mind a Sterlings Remnant Rush kind of event thing but for Platinum.
they should do shared bank storage in the same way Sterling's tally for remnants goes up, but with no resetting it monthly. + 1 slot 100k, +1 slot 200k, +1slot 400k and do it so you contribute once it goes over your plat limit and when you reach the target the slot unlocks and the next tier begins.
