Summer Sails has begun

Did anyone know?

I understand if it's one person's job to post announcements of events and sales, but if that one person goes on vacation, someone should be assigned to step up and make sure the work still gets done (perhaps not to the same quality as the person who's main job is to do it, but enough so that it doesn't completely get left behind).

Last weeks sales are still active, so it's hard to parse what is the summer sail and what's the last one that hasn't gone away yet. I do see supreme tomes on the sales list though, so there's that.

OP,

Do you mean "Summer Sales"?
Summer Sails is the official name of the DDO summer sale event.

Looks like this week is:

- Supreme and Individual +8 Tomes, +7 to 8s: 30% off
- Racial +1 and Universal +1 Tomes: 50% off
- A butt-ton of cosmetics: 75% off

Dunno if there's any content packs that might be on sale since I own almost all content, I assume there is. Maybe someone can roll a fresh account to go check.

Wow yeah its completely baffling why you'd have a sail - er, sale... - and have absolutely no announcement of it. It completely defeats the purpose. Not a good look for SSG.
It might be baffling, and it certainly looks unprofessional... but this is neither the first time (by a very large margin) nor is it likely to be the last. I once did a deep dive of the weekly sales going back years, and at least half a dozen times I had to comb through the Stormreach Chronicle to get the sales info because it was NOT posted to the forums. Things slip through the cracks, people are busy or go on vacation, we get it - but really they should have someone checking that these duties are passed on and completed by someone.

I'm back, it just took a bit longer to get sales copy published today. Typically it'll hit the Store first then get announced, so if you are watching it super closely you will see it reflected before the announcements go out.

This is one of those times it's helpful to remember that the DDO team is pretty small, sosometimes things get missed or take a bit longer to be publicized.

I'm happy to see +8 tomes on sale. Now I just need shards on sale so my poor guild can finally upgrade the airship!

They're a multi-million dollar company. If I correctly remember the financials they submitted as part of the acquistion by EG7 a few years back, even just the DDO division is a multi-million dollar part.

There's really no good excuse for the consistently sub-standard levels of communications they provide as a company of that income level.

Lately, it's as likely as not that the postings for the weekly sales, weekend bonuses, and similar things are late, or don't happen. Sometimes they've only happened after players have posted in the forums asking when they were going to be posted because they were already late.

These are basic checklist level things we're talking about. Recurring calendar reminders and tasks lists with notifications have been commonplace for longer than DDO's been around. Seems like some people at SSG need to learn how to use them.

If Cordovan's that overworked or if nobody else knows to cover his recurring, weekly duties while he's out, SSG needs to address it, whether that's by hiring more help, cross training, etc.

Edit:
Went back and dug up one of the original threads from 2020 on the acquisition by EG7. It has the financials and other good info in it.

In particular, this is the investor presentation provided by EG7.
