What, me worry?
The poll results match what I've seen on many threads about rares, hard to think anyone whose been watching the forums is surprised.

We need a solutions thread.

Be kind to the trolls, it won't change their behavior, but being kind will make you feel kindness and that's great for your mental health!

I'm expecting the next expansion will feature the same amount of rare loot as MD because at this point the company hasn't learnt its lesson. In spite of all the negative feedback we've provided they're still releasing smaller adventure packs with too much rare loot and expecting to get paid.

What I am hoping will happen is the community will say no more of this, by either not purchasing the next expansion in advance or only getting the cheapest pack. Though I am expecting the company is aware of the ill-feeling and so will try to bribe us with a little more value than usual for the higher tier packs.

The message from all of this is they will treat us as poorly as we let them. As long as we keep supporting their scummy practices that is the best we can expect.

Yes, given that they have continued with rare loot in the adventure packs after MD it is clear that they plan to continue with that in the next expansion.

Honestly, I don´t care at all about rare loot in the next expansion.
If the game keeps me entertained long enough to collect enough DDO points to buy "Lamordia", I will, but I won´t spend money on it. My regret from buying the "ultimate" edition of MD made sure of that.

No, I do not enjoy/want rare loot.

MD is the first xpac I haven't bought for cash. I got it for points and I think it's a beautiful xpac, I ran it every heroic life and I love the music, story and quests. In the other hand, just ignored its legendary version. If someone feels like trying, I'm happy for them.

I haven´t bought yet Tavern Tales. I can't understand the format or the level split. I don't need more rare drops also.

I still don't know what to do with Lammordia, since it haven't been announced yet for prepurchase. This is what I could be looking for:

  • Ingredients system. I like to get slow visible progress, just like Vecna or Isle. The casual crowd loves this and it's for a reason.
  • Exciting new items. You created a monster with legendary Green Steel debuffers, so now the entire game is paying a price. We need NEW powerful effects, no more copies of the past ones with a +1 attached to them.
  • Beautiful lore/design. I enjoyed MD a lot, I am sure Lammordia will be stunning also, no problems there.
So, time shall tell. I hope you do the best for the game and its players, casual crowd and elite alike :)

And it was stated in one of the Fridays at Four that the Rare loot mechanic that they were experimenting with was being used in the development cycle starting with Myth Drannor. The current adventure pack was already set up that way before anyone even started complaining so it is not a confirmation that they are committed to the rare loot mechanic.

Before anyone started complaining? Seriously? Where have you been the last nine months? You should get your eyes checked, because it's difficult not to see so many threads complaining about rare loot.

And no, don't tell me they had the loot and quests of this last pack designed nine months ago. We've only just seen them work on them. They could have left out rare loot.

The devs haven't said anywhere that they've given up on rare loot. So I'm with Blerkington that it looks like they haven't given up on their horrible, horrible idea.

So, right now the Developers (actually the higher ups, the corporate suit n' tie folks) are looking at the numbers and seeing probably what we're seeing.

That around 15% of the population is OK with rare loot drops.

From that they are right now figuring out how many of us will "continue on" as in continue to play the game, buy the expansion (albeit at a lower tier) and just ignore rare loot (or even get hooked again to the chase).

As a responsible corporate seer whose task it is to predict the future and harvest as much $$$ from us, the name of the game right now is to determine that balance:

How many of that 15% are whales and high spenders, who collectively account for 90% of the game's revenue, multiply that by what the 15% population represents and then weigh that against the other side of the scale which constitutes the "commoners" (people who play but not are overtly addicted spenders) who will end up spending less and possibly quit (but lol, we all know by now that DDO is literally hotel california).

Toss in those commoners who'll eventually get addicted to the shard-reroll DDOstore $$ chase onto the whale side of the ledger and I come to the unfortunate conclusion:

Lamordia will most likely have a rare loot system of some kind or another.

They likely understand the poll is meaningless for multiple reasons.
1) The forums are an opt-in location so it doesn't represent the player base as a whole
2) A bunch of people have stated they've put you on ignore (because of excessive polls/comments you've made) and everyone who's got you on ignore will never even see this thread to vote.
3) Some people will vote certain ways just to rile others up.

For the most part, forums polls aren't a good metric.

RF said it better but I will agree with them.

SSG is not going to take any conclusions from a player poll. They either have better ways to gauge the impact of rare loot (actual $$ trends) or it doesn't matter because this is not even their choice to make.

I've never stated that this poll is scientific in any way, shape, or form.

Rather, it's indicative or round-a-bout of the actual numbers that SSG currently has right now on their side. That indeed a small coterie of players actually don't mind that rare drop loot system.

The argument here is that, the rare loot system is in a way an OPT-IN SYSTEM. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T CHASE.

So, therefore as long as a small retinue of players exist that actively want a rare loot system, they have an incentive (possibly even fiduciarily obliged to enad7 shareholders) to create such a system.

The main point is: noone is forcing you to chase after these ultra-rare items. And noone is definitely forcing you to open up the DDOstore and blow several hundred $$$ to buy shards to chase these ultra-rare items.

So therefore, why not?

It could be that. But as it is currently, it's not. Some items and effects are purely in the "rare" category, seemingly at random, and if you want that effect, you have to grind the grind.

Now, if there were basic tier that dropped with normal frequency, and then a rare-but-better-stat-number version that you could grind for if you wanted, then you'd have a point. But that's not the system we have atm.*

* Well, we've actually had that system for a while, with reaper-mythic-card, but SSG wanted to go for another layer for some reason that eludes me. So since we already had it, I'm not sure what the point was of this rare nonsense.

Yeah he's just trolling.
Sure. Common sense is trolling. 🙄

Doesn't seem to like that I can have an opinion about the taste of trash without actually having eaten it.
If I'd use your analogies, you are sitting inside the big pile of trash shouting out to every person passing by, how you don't like to sit in there. But if someone say that you can stand up and leave, you'll just call him "troll" and keeps sitting.

Honestly, I think even if someone creates a "Look at my hamster photos" thread, you'll sneak in there with your "I didn't buy MD" line...
Who are you trying to convince this hard, I wonder. Or, actually, no. I don't really care. But it is quite clear that mysterious person does not believe you or you would have stopped already. And I don't believe in anything you say either. 😏

So what if...

For every rare item, they created a much lesser powered "lesser rare item".

Then, that would satisfy everyone.

So for example:

You have "Legendary Golden Hammer of Adam" (rare).

But also, "Legendary Silver Hammer of Adam" (common).

Yes?

Well said. Sadly, patience is a virtue I admit I am lacking in at times.

Constant complaining about things (without offering any suggestions besides things like 'make rare loot less rare' or without having first-hand knowledge about said thing) only lessens the possible positive impacts a forum can have. I'm actually surprised this thread is still active, TBH.

Maybe we can ALL make a concentrated effort to trying to improve the game we play (not done by simply complaining) or offer advice to those looking for ways to better enjoy the game.

Even Google's all powerful AI agrees with this...simply search for "complaint without a solution" and see what you get from it.
