The 32-bit worlds should not be brought down for the Thursday update given we go so little time. Left to get ready to transfer so unfair......

Just as a general observation - This transfer process is going to be perilous. We've been given nearly a full month to prepare for it.
TAKE STEPS NOW.
Reach out to old friends/members/leaders. Ask if they can help with anything they can help with, and also let them know this is happening because maybe they aren't gone forever and will want to get their own ducks in a row so they aren't left hanging by the late stage transfer - or come back in a few years to find all their old characters are gone forever.

Consolidate your alts and their items. Worried about storage capacity in the shared bank from multiple servers? Shrink it now. Do you really need 8 stacks of 500 kobold prayer beads in shared crafting? Probably not. Dump some. Pick up some Green bags from 12 Favor and stuff them with crafting storage items so the shared bank isn't as full.

Prepare your guild. Inactive leadership should be replaced and kicked. Old members should be removed so you don't lose standing. Empty out your guild chests onto mules. Write down your airship floorplan so you can reconstruct your amenity locations right away.

Empty your reincarnation cache (I know it's supposed to transfer, but why chance it?).

Don't assume that everything will be smooth. Don't lay everything at the feet of SSG. You can be very proactive right now to prepare for this and make it as pain free as possible.

If you have just not been paying attention at all for the last 10 weeks - that's entirely on you.

Unless you're busy this weekend, you could at least make a start with it.

If you have a solo guild or something then I'd say -- transfer your guild leader first ; and alone. Unpack on the destination server, then worry about the others more casually.
To clarify, if moving a solo guild, pack all characters in the guild first, then pack your guild leader as it locks the guild. then move the guild leader to your new server, unpack and reestablish the guild. then log in each character and unpack which will automatically reassign them to the guild. So many people this last month I think caused some of their own problems by not following the steps properly.

1 month to move 20 years plus of playing while having a life is so unreasonable. The 32-bit worlds should not be brought down to allow us the most time possible to get the servers ready for transfer. Also do we got all day of the 31st or is the kill switch being thrown at 9am on the 31st EST????

I am confused over this one. I to have a life away from gaming, both a family life and a work life and gaming is just my break from reality for an hour or two in the evening while my wife watches the inside of her eyelids, I mean TV.

SSG Announced the end of the 32-bit servers (and consolidation) back on June 13th, The announced date was Aug 31st, roughly 90 days of notice.

How much more time do you need?

In the near future the 32-bit servers will be turned back on to allow players to continue to move characters, with the questing part of the gaming turned off. A week, maybe two weeks from now.

Once the 32-bit servers are separated from the ongoing development SSG will have further opportunity to "rework" sections of code utilized by the servers that were memory locked by the limitations of 32-bit servers by either refactoring or rewriting. Many sections of the code probably need to be refactored, I do not believe that SSG would have the resources to put that much effort into this niche game.

It's not rocket science. /transfer pack, log out, transfer, log in to new server, /transfer unpack. Bam....your done. Repeat for each character, even the worst hoarder and altaholic should be able to do that in less than an hour. After the 31st, old servers will return for 2 YEARS. Surely you can complete your tansfer in 2 years!!!!

I finally started transferring characters this week.

Packing .... less than a minute for the first one. ( had all the shared bank stuff, pets, mounts, guild ) Few seconds for remaining ones.
Transferring .... few seconds before getting the completion e-mail
Unpacking ... less than a minute for the first one. few seconds for remaining ones.

I spent more time logging into the 32 bit and 64 bit server, and walking them to the bank than I did in the actual acts of transferring.

So the days of waiting several hours for transfers to complete are long gone. It's a quick process now.

I think they moved the shutdown date to the 2nd, but don't quote me on that.
There is an update that tells the exact day, but I know it's not the 31st.

Also, you only have to pack your toons on the old servers; you don't have to move them yet.
There will be time to move them when they reopen them for transfer only.

Oh yeah, to the best of my understanding, you have to get your toons packed before they shut the old servers down.

You won't be able to log into the old worlds once they open them up for transfer.

You can only move packed toons at that point; any toons that aren't packed are essentially dead.

I would modify this with: Create a dummy toon to carry all the initial items from shared along with filling up their bank and backpacks. (This will allow you to empty the guild chests if any into the now cleared shared and make another toon if shared will not carry all the items over.) The first dummy toon will be the LAST one you will unpack. (Yes items do go into overflow but I made the mistake of having 1100+ items in overflow, it is a pita.)

That can't be correct. It's entirely possible that someone could come back to the game after a 3 month haitus, deployment, break, etc. And never had a chance to pack before the 32 bit servers went ghost.

Yeah, that's wrong. Here's from the transfer bible, er, guide :

What happens after August 31st, 2025?

The 32-bit game worlds will be closing after August 31st, 2025. We will reopen these game worlds shortly afterwards as “ghost worlds”, which will allow players to log into these worlds to access their account features and run the "/transfer pack" command. Further questing, XP gain, or other benefits of continued gameplay are not available. These worlds will remain open for at least two years to facilitate final transfers. After this period, these worlds will be permanently closed, and no further transfers will be possible. Transfers from "ghost worlds" will remain free throughout their duration.

So basically you've got 2+ years, as of current plans.

This should be fun, after reading a months' worth of lag complaints and stuck transfers now we all get the joy of reading all the procrastinators upset that there's no time left.
Don't worry. The lag complaints will get worse. All the people smart enough to delay transferring so they wouldn't have to deal with all the problems will now be joining you on the main servers making the lag even worse. No one benefits from making us all rush to new servers that are not prepared to deal with the load of this many characters.

No to worry. You'll also have all the whining about Chill drop rates (often from people who have even stated they don't have/haven't run the expansion). :)
That's because the drop rates are the reason why they don't have the expansion. The drop rate effectively is the same as the expansion never having been released. They want new content just like everyone else so they complain so that the new content will be something they can buy.

That is the thing, we HAVE been paying attention the last 10 weeks and the clear message has been: don't transfer. The new servers are terrible to play on and characters are getting stuck transferring or missing items. They are asking for more time because the game is still, to this day, not ready for transfers. I waited 5 months to transfer my LOTRO characters. The process at that point was completely smooth and painless. DDO is not yet at the point of completely smooth and painless so forcing more people into the transfer pipeline isn't a great idea.

The setup for ghost worlds remains the same as originally announced, which means that you will be able to log into the game world in order to be able to continue to pack and transfer. You WILL be able to log into the old worlds for at least a couple of years after they open as ghost worlds.

You read a lot of fear-based posts.
I have toons on all four servers, and I play every day.
If Thrane or Shadowdale is too laggy, I'll just go to a non-laggy server.

Two servers have bad lag at certain times of the day, not all the time.
The other two servers have virtually no lag.
So there are plenty of places to move your toons today, and you will be just fine.

Or you can wait till they shut them down and reopen them before you move.
The only issue there is that you will have a short time where you can't play at all.

I suggest you move your favorite toon to Cormyr till they reopen the old servers as ghost worlds.
Then wait till they reopen the old servers and finish packing and transferring.

Easy peasy

That's not true. The transfer process was a bit slow and painful at first, but when I transferred my toons from Sarlona to Moonsea on August 2nd it only took half an hour or so. And when I transferred the ones from Ghallanda and other servers in mid-august, it was pretty much instant.

As for the lag, I've had "only" 4 bad lag spikes in 4 weeks of playing every evening at peak times on Moonsea. Not great, but bearable. Obviously, it's worse on Shadowdale and Thrane, but Cormyr's apparently fine too.

Face it, you've just let the early whining scare you off, didn't bother to ask for more feedback later and now you're asking for extensions because you couldn't be bothered to even prep for the transfers. That's on you.

I'm not actually asking for anything. I'm looking forward getting the transfers over with this weekend so I can finally take a long break from this game. This whole mess has nicely put me in a mood to not play DDO which is for the best.
