The DDO Store user experience absolutely sucks

1. Login
2. Open DDO Store. Get "401 Unauthorized". Close window.
3. Open DDO Store. "Too many requests, slow down." Close window.
4. Wait 2 minutes. Open DDO Store. Search "jewel". Window locks up, cant click on anything inside the window. Close window. Logout.
5. Login. Open DDO Store. Select Jeweler's Kits x10, qty 9. Confirm purchase. "Sorry there's been a problem, try again." Confirm purchase again. Store window locks up.
6. Open DDO Store. Wait 3 min. Nothing renders - I only see a black empty window. Close window.
7. Finally can buy the jeweler's kits I want.

And there's not a thing SSG will do to address it. None of what I shared is new. I've gotten every one of those messages at other times since the new store launched. This was just the longest chain of failures I've experienced.

There is a lot wrong with the store, and I think at least part of it is the massive bloat of total items available, combined with it fetching every single item ASAP when you open the store (and chokes on all the data more often than not).

Same when you reopen the store - it won't remember where you left off, nothing is cached - it just re-downloads the entire store's contents and drops you at the splash screen/storefront. It's the least efficient implementation possible.

I’ve never had an error message but know others do. But I’m permanently on 6 - intolerable slowness. Slowness that makes rubber banding lag in the marketplace seem like blazing speed. Slowness that would frustrate a sloth. It’s discouraged more than one casual purchase over the years.

"Too many requests, slow down."
This one was written by an in-experienced programmer. Lots of ways to solve, like prevent client from sending more than X requests in Y time OR limit the server from taking requests in given time OR a visual processing cue like spinning wheel....but if you're relying on the user to not re-hit a button when the server is non-performant, then it's more of a prayer than a solution.

Would be nice if it opened on multiple accounts as well. Right now you have to log out of all accounts in order to open the store on another account.

And yea, it really should remember where you left off.

A good chunk of the store could be just deleted. No need for +1 leather armors and stuff like that.

I've been getting this for quite a while, both win 10 and 11. I reported it once, last year, ssg's reply was to nuke the .ini file and try again. Didn't work.

Something I found, when you get the "Too many requests, slow down.", start spam clicking on the store icon, watch the errors scroll by, then after it times out the store will open and work.

Yep, that's the exact same experience I get 9 out of 10 times when I open the store.

SSG is one of the worst companies I have ever seen when it comes to making it difficult for paying customers to give them $$.

Cheapo like me opens DDO store for Redeem code line only. I would appreciate it if there were a faster way.

Heh.

I've lost count of how many times the Store interface has saved me money over the years.

Not a great business model. On the other hand, after a day or two I realize I didn't need that whatever-thing as badly as I thought I did. (...much like VIP. )

I agree, there are also issues with displaying certain items if you're underleveled, for example (the "show all items" button doesn't work properly). It's been a while since I've bought anything with a low-level character, so maybe they've fixed it, but this has always been a recurring complaint.

It's also sometimes not very intuitive to use. If you're in a section of the store and you do a search, it may give you a negative result because it only searches in the section of the store you're currently in.

It's very slow to load. Desperately slow.

I'm not a fan of the presentation either. It's meant to be more pretty than functional.

That happens way too often to me whenever I'm trying to buy a raid timer.
Yeah, although for me it usually starts loading at a snail's pace, and after a few minutes I have to close it and reload it (not a message—just an eternity of waiting. If the store has finished loading, then I get the message you mentioned, but often the first time it doesn't even get to the message.). Having to restart the store several times because the first time (or sometimes even the second time) it never finishes loading is very frustrating.

Agree. It’s also emblematic of the ssg attitude, the USERS are the problem.

Many actions close the window automatically, I try to re-open - “slow down”. YOU closed the window application , not me. But fine, I won’t buy anything.

And your tiles are still a terrible design.

I tried multiple times to redeem the free guild renown elixir earlier and couldn't. It would load for 20-30 sec and then either do nothing or give me an error "Something went wrong." I tried switching characters and same thing.

It feels like they went browsing craigslist and bought a generic "MMO Store - with cart! - $50 OBO" off of it.

I don't really remember the old store that well. I doubt it was perfect, but I can't remember ever thinking "Well at least the new store ____" or even hearing anyone else say anything good about it.

It's very slow to load, browse, redeem, bugs out a lot, doesn't resize or scroll well, no cosmetic previews, etc. What was the reason behind changing the store again?

I can do things others can't...
I usually only experience issues with the store when there is more than one DDO client running within the local network. So if I'm multi-boxing during tests, I know never to attempt to open the store as it will fail.

At the very most, I only dual-box for using the code, and have to make sure to give time for the store to load in properly before I do anything.

I also make sure I don't open the LFM panel, Quest Journal or anything else that uses the UI, as it will mess with the store and require you to start over again and it might kick up a fuss again.

No solutions here, just minor work arounds depending on your situation at the time.
