The drop rate for Lamordia is anemic

Ran Saltmarsh last night and finally got 1 named item in the 9th quest of the chain. 10 quests, 1 named item in an end chest. Obviously, it is possible for this to happen (not getting anything for an entire year is, of course, statically possible), but it really shouldn't happen. It has definitely felt like the drop rate has been reduced for a while. I usually run with 3 accounts and I am averaging way less named loot than I should. Going many quests in a row with all 3 characters getting no loot has become very common.

If you want to start tracking your drops into a spreadsheet I'll add it to my data! In case you need some additional drudgery to go with your grinding.

It's all because I am stealing your drops...11 named items with 1 run through and 6 wilderness rares. :D

Yesterday we run all quests around R6/7 on lamordia in 2 players, after 13 quests we get 3 items... perfect, nice drop rate...

Saltmarsh is a pack i wish i never bought. I've stopped running it due to the difficulty spike and the named loot not dropping. Too much risk for no reward (i play permadeath). I think its the pack ive seen the most deaths in, both my own and people i run with.

The fact the Flamesalt weapons are tied to a system were you have to run the quests, makes it even worse. I don't think the weapons are worth it either.

It's the main reason i never bought MD (due to the named item low drop rate). I am also hanging fire with buying the new expansion, until people confirm what the named item drop rate is like.

Of the data I logged, Saltmarsh is one of the worst in terms of being "off" from the claimed 33%+R# named item drop rate. I got a 17% drop rate across 65 recorded drops. Which is a sufficient number to fail the binomial test which indicates that the true drop rate is not the claimed formula. SSG staff refuse to acknowledge my findings in any way though.

I thought vecnas was even lower then sm
I only recorded 6 chests in Vecna and got zero items, but it wasn't enough runs to be statistically significant. During the period of time I was bothering to play the game and try to get items I was trying to build up largely generic sets of gear such that I could primarily use Sharn gear at 15, add Epic Saltmarsh at 20, then Legendary Sharn and Saltmarsh as I hit 29/30. Nowhere near optimal gearing but I thought I'd be able to acquire that fairly easily and would only have to figure out the Tetris once, and the gear be good enough to bang out past lives. It turned out to be far more annoying to get the items than I expected.

Saltmarsh gear is probably your best bet at level 20. The one quest can be a bit too long but it also has one of the shortest/best XP quests in the game in it too.

For deaths, I can't remember really seeing many death messages come up on hardcore for Saltmarsh, more for Feywild. FAR FAR FAR FAR and away the most death messages I saw however was for Ravenloft. Fresh Baked Dreams Bella the Younger was CONSTANTLY ganking people.

I always got the feeling that salt drops are more around 20% than the claimed 33%, is not that rare but is not that common either, same with Vecna. Sadly i don't have statistical proof with it. Didn't buy Lamordia but hope it gets better over time, Vecna got bugged drops on heroics at first.

But to use saltmarsh gear at lvl 20, you need to get the items from the herioc quests. If the items dont drop than how can i make it epic.
That is my whole point, the loot doesn't drop in saltmarsh, my last run there were 4 of us and we looted about 30+ (so 120+ pulls) chests and got 2 items (and that was in the last chest we looted (so if we had stopped one chest short, we would have received no items). That is terrible 160 pulls for 2 items. I just dont think its worth running the content. I know this game works on range and if that run had been a one off, i may understand it. But it was happening in every run. Thats why Saltmarsh is on my no run list now, Consequently i havent bought MD or Chill.
I actually bought Vecna but i was told that has the same loot drop as Saltmarsh, MD and Chill. So even though i have the pack. I have decided not to run it.

I know there is more to questing than loot. but for me, yes i want the loot.

I rarely run Saltmarsh and I have a bunch of sets.

It used to be months of play to get to 20, now power creep lets people do it in a day and your character is expected to do it dozens of times for past lives.

The fact that you aren't getting everything you want the first run through isn't a problem, it's just whining.

That's not "not getting what you want", that's "not getting anything at all". Very different. You may only want a single item out of any given 3 quests. Getting 0 of the 12-15 items that can even drop in those 3 quests across 4 players is brutal. 30+ chests implies a ton of wilderness or a couple full saga runs.

Months of play to get 20 was never true, I played a ton when 20 was cap. And guess what, that was 14 years ago. Back then, random gen gear was acceptable to use because the mudflation of stats hadn't rendered them worthless. Lack of sets and limited stats also meant you were way more likely to get an item an slap it on immediately, you didn't need to get a full gearset before you were able to even equip any of them. Drop rates need to be high because of the way gear is currently designed.

118 consecutive pulls with no items, assuming a 33% chance is a probability of 1 in 333 quintillion.

I thought my experience was bad, that's phenomenal. I guarantee there haven't been quintillions of chest pulls in DDO for this to make any kind of sense as a string of "bad luck". The drop rate would have to be well under 1% for this to be a reasonably expected outcome. I'd say it's conclusive proof of some kind of RNG error

Unfortunately i have the worst luck. When running with new players. I tell them how unlucky i am. But i dont think they quite believe it until they see it with their own eyes and than their amazed.
Thats why i much preferred the old system were end rewards gave named items or you can farm ingrediants in the wilderness zones to get named items.

I actually felt sorry for the other 3 people i was running with, as im used to nothing dropping for me, i think my luck that run rubbed off on the other 3 players :(

I tend to end up running with random loot (or running named items well below my level, sometimes im stilling using korthos gear at lvl 7) most of the time, which i know is sub optimal but it's the way i have adapted to the new loot system. (I never TR so farming these quests on multiple past lives is not something i can do).

It's a shame they have altered course with the way named loot drops now. As you can clearly see they put alot of time and effort into these items, but if the average / casual person can't get the items. It seems like a waste of time on the developers side. It's a bit like the explorer areas, they have stopped using teleports to quests, so people can experience the wilderness areas.

But i think the final straw in this game for me is going to be the lag. I can adapt to most things, but tonight the game is unplayable (been on multiple servers, and their all lagging really badly).

Ironically this has the opposite effect, people end up hating the wilderness areas because of the constant slog of getting to quests. RL is my favorite wilderness, I'd rather die than run Feywild again. I've only done the quests in IoD one time each.

So the blood stone chest out in the sands. I've hit that chest 3,500 times or so and never pulled one. I used to ransack 5 characters per week on that chest and nothing. Odds? Yet Saltmarsh is a goto run if you want sentient XP. In my group we clean up there. IOD is also very generous to us. But I will say, two of our group of five make up around 60% of our item pulls. We both get items at a much higher rate than the other three.
