This is the First Edition of The King of Dust.

The King of Dust is a Role play - CtF/PvP event.

The First Battle Cycle of The King of Dust will begin on May 30th at 8 PM Eastern (-4 GMT) at the Wayward Lobster in Shadowdale.

To participate in the event, players must comment on this post with: “Candidate: Avatar name”.

Each Candidate will be entitled to bring 4 Vassals.

The only restriction on recruiting Vassals is that they cannot be Observers.

Vassals can be replaced at any time outside of the Battle Cycles, except for the final cycle, at which point those who are part of the winning team will be recorded for the coronation moment.

The Candidate list will close on May 22nd at 11 PM Eastern (-4 GMT).

After the Candidate list closes, Candidate Pairs will be randomly selected.

Battle Cycle:

The list of Candidate Pairs will be published in this same post.

In order of the list, each Candidate Pair will be invited to join the Battle Group.

Failure to respond to the invitation within 5 minutes will result in the Candidate's disqualification.

The Battle Group will consist of 2 Observers, 2 Candidates, and 0 to 8 Vassals.

The Battle Group will then be divided, each group consisting of 1 Observer, 1 Candidate, and 0 to 4 Vassals.

The Battle for the Crown of Dust will last 10 minutes in Capture the Flag mode at the Menechtarun Desert.

Killing an Observer will disqualify the Candidate even if his Vassal is the killer.

After each Battle Cycle ends, a new draw will be held with the winners of the previous cycle, and a new cycle will begin until a final Candidate remains.

Coronation Ceremony:
1. The Applicant will be called to the center of the Wayward Lobster PvP arena.
2. The respective Vassals will be called to the center of the Wayward Lobster PvP arena.
3. The Master of Ceremonies asks: “What do the Vassals declare?”
4. The Vassals may then indicate support for the Applicant by selecting him and executing the /bow command.
5. Vassals who do not perform step 4 correctly will be declared Rebels. If there are no Rebels the Applicant will be declared The King of Dust.
6. The Master of Ceremonies initiates the contest for the crown by declaring: “The crown has been contested.”
7. The last Rebel alive in the arena will be declared The King of Dust but if all Rebels are killed the Applicant will be declared The King of Dust even if only one of his Vassals still alive.

P.S.: Donations to the event can be converted into prizes and should be made to Nyrvjjn in Shadowdale.

I like the language in the promo but I have to admit I dont quite understand what the intention is, what role will the vassals play during the actual PvP capture the flag arena? How does their role differ from the "candidate"?

The event management will have no interference in the internal organization of the teams, which is the sole responsibility of the Candidate. The intention of this structure was to create narrative tension outside the capture-the-flag arena at the time of the king's coronation, where Vassals can kneel before the King of Dust or rebel against the Candidate and initiate a last-man standing for the Crown of Dust.

If I understand correctly, it's a 5v5 tournament (up to 5 per team), where the "team captain" is the Candidate and teammates are Vassals. (Limit of 5 so there's room for an Observer on each team). Winning team of 5 goes to PvP tavern zone in Wayward Lobster to crown their "king" either by proclamation or combat.
  • No restrictions on levels, classes, PLs, etc.?
  • Only 1 match happening at a time? Depending on number of entries, could be a long gap between matches for any particular team... 2 minutes response time seems quick unless a schedule is published.
Sounds exciting! I'll see if Pay It Forward can field a team (sadly, I'm not available that day).

"2 minutes response time seems quick unless a schedule is published. " : Indeed I'm getting this and rise response time to 5 minutes.

Thank you very much for collaboration.

I have never seen how capture the flag is even played. I would be interested to see it. I don't really have any toon at shadowdale, I could just bring an iconic to not be 1st level or some veteran toon.
But I don't think my toon will really be competitive.
Anyhow, if there are some people who are willing to play a capture the flag for fun. I would like to see it.
Thanks

Lol, winning, losing, dying, surviving are not my concerns. I just want to see what is happening there and maybe figure out the mechanics.

How do you not even understand the mechanics? Its simple you on red team you go and grab the blue flag, return the blue flag to the red teams side, and vice versa on blue team go grab the Red flag and return red flag to the blue side
