The Official Dungeons & Dragons Online Discord is now open!

Spook

Ghostly Troll
At the moment no, but we'll see in the future if this is something we can do. Especially at the start I am opting for more restrictive, so I get the pushback, but this absolutely will cut down on spam and trolling (both from the community and external to it) so this requirement will remain in place for now.
This is incredibly naive. As others have pointed out it very easy to get round the verification (there are even guides to do it) so it doesn’t prevent the bad actors. All it does is prevent legitimate users from joining.

It's true we are requiring phone verification for Discord accounts as an anti-spam, harassment, ban evasion, and anti-bot tool. While I can absolutely appreciate the position of those who don't want to provide a phone number, it is a requirement for this Discord.
then it's a pointless channel and useless for me.
& so I leave the server.

If I get texted feet pics in the middle of the night (again . . .) you know who's at the top of my suspects list.

Discord does not get my cell number.

Can imagine a bunch of marketing texts for games or upgrading my account.

And pics of trolls feets.

lmao all the people who will get their account hacked cuz u need phone number for 2fa :ROFLMAO:
they should start by hacking my forum account and game account which also don't have 2fa. there is a lot of false sense of security with 2fa, but it can be useful sometimes (and a pain in the butt almost always).

i thought the same. but now that i see all the people who wont go to the discord makes me think it might not be as toxic...

Does DDO come across as a harassment community or full of people who are actively trying to evade bans? From my experience the community is older / more mature. I'm apart of a few community ran ddo discord groups, and maybe they can chime in, but they don't require the phone number and also don't seem to be having any problems with the community.

yes and no.

we are older and in theory more mature.

but there is a vocal segment of people that love to troll and more to hurt people. they keep evading bans and coming back.

What Cord could do is have you link a forum account to your Discord account and if you have enough history, more specifically positive history, that this is enough to OK your discord account.

Or...

And people will not like this...

You can sell a Discord Access Pass in the DDO store for 500 DDO points. Have them verify the purchase and link your player account with the Discord account (<- this is frankly way better than just a phone number which can be spoofed by a determined person).

Yeah I went there.

I signed up for the discord and when I went to verify my phone number it says I already have my number associated with my discord account and it wouldn't let me verify for Discord with it. I then tried my google voice number and it wouldn't let me use that either. What do I need to do to get verified if my Discord is already associated with my phone number? Thank you so much!

and....this will allow the "devs" to NOT be @pinged directly or anyone to "reply" to a dev post without being reprimanded for it. Ever notice the "Do not disturb" status?

Double check your account profile maybe and make sure you've got the number added. I haven't run into this before, although in my case I have two accounts, a work account and a personal account, so I have to swap the phone number between them sometimes. You can only have the number associated with one account at a time.
