Copy and paste is how it'll be done for those who want to do it. Maybe someday we could integrate the Discord API (and Twitch and others), but it's not a part of this particular Discord launch project.
Thats a huge missed opportunity to get it right the first time.

Bah... I had my phone number associated with an old discord account no longer in use. Deletion takes 14-30 days.

I use Discord, but I'm very cautious about it. There is no way in heck I'm pinning my phone number to my discord account.

When the devs open up an alternative means to join the discord, I'll take a look at it.

Was also shocked that after it asked for my bank account information, blood type, and social security number (all things I was willing to provide), that my phone number was asked as well. I also at that point stopped the process and will not join. This is not a Three Letter government agency website but a lousy MMO with 20 year persistent lag.
I'll make you a deal SSG - fix the lag and I'll give you my phone number and you can prank call pizzas to my house.

SSG does not gain access to your phone number, Discord does.

It's a discord verification option for servers to make things slightly harder for people/malicious actors to join. Yes, a focused malicious actor can bypass it, but that takes effort, and most people are lazy and would rather target easier to access servers. Hence it is treated as a security measure.

I'm not saying you should add your number if you don't want to. You are free to not do so, but at least understand what is actually happening. SSG is not actually gaining knowledge of or access to your phone number by having phone verification on their discord server.

Bro. I understand defending SSG can be a full time job but my comment was for humor, not IT purposes.

huh?

Correcting misinformation is not the same thing as blindly defending something. Outrage works better when it's backed by facts, not misinterpretations and falsities. I get your post was satire, but many others have claimed the same thing, not just you. Notice how I didn't actually quote you above, but gave a general statement for all?

edit: despite what some may believe, I'm not sitting here all day watching every post roll in to respond right away. I work, I sleep, I do other things with my time, so sometimes I come back after many hours of not watching a thread/conversation and then make a post based on everything I missed. My post being directly after yours was simple coincidence (even though your satire mentioned what my post was meant to counter).

This is true but it is SSGs choice to use the "highest" verification rather than "high" the difference is literally the phone number.

Yup, I agree, which is their right to do so as the company hosting the server.

Whatever your feelings on the matter....

I do feel the forums have much quieted after the Discord went up online.

Hmm, a little disconcerting.

It's too early to even really see the analytics but there is no noticeable impact to the forums from the Discord from what I can see so far.
