Do you miss Hardcore?
Do you need something to do until the new expansion “Magic of Myth Drannor” comes out on July 31st 2024?
Do you like to be entered into raffles to earn prizes?

Come participate in the DDO Community’s first ever hosted Unofficial Hardcore League Summer 2024!

When: July 1-31
Where: Wayfinder
Who: KozyBean & Troggytrog & more from the DDO community
What time: You can start as soon as 12am July 1st, in your time zone, BUT there will be an Opening Ceremony July 1st, 9am ET for funsies including a Parade!!!! The parade will be us walking from Valeria Sinderwind (where you enter Stormreach Harbour from Korthos) to the marketplace tent circling the subterrane entrance. (There may be baller music during our parade) Once there, I will say a few inspirational words on stream ( I may have a costume on) .

We'll walk to the marketplace and circle the entrance to the subterrane. This will also be livestreamed on my channel (and maybe streamed by more content creators)!

The Rules and Guidelines for the Unofficial Hardcore Summer League 2024 are:

  1. Your character’s first name must end with UHL. (For example: KozyBeanUHL) This will allow everyone to identify others participating in the challenge. Of course you can run solo, but if you choose to run with others, you may only quest with people with the UHL tag in their name. If you put up an lfm make it clear that it’s for the UHL challenge.
  2. I’ve realized we said we were going to run quests at no higher than the quest’s base level, but in order to make it more like the HC experience and to reduce confusion we are now able to run quests up to max base level +2. So now if you run base level +0 it’s an Optional Bonus Challenge.
Sorry for the wording that caused confusion to many! Thanks for your patience as this is our first UHL event and it is not just one person running it. <3 Kozy
  3. Start from scratch/level playing field: Start at level 1 (no iconics because they can't start with 0 xp like they do in HC). You may use items from alts in your bank if they're doing the UHL challenge. Use what you find in quests, auction houses, or what you can purchase and/or trade from any in-game npc vendors, traders or brokers.
  4. One life to live: If you die, you can't use that character any longer in the event, and must leave the event guild (if there is one, and if it gets full). You may not pass items from your dead character to other characters or players. Dead characters can no longer use the shared bank.
  5. Heirloom items (optional): You can leave 1 item to your successor/next event character as an Heirloom Item. An event character can only ever have 1 Heirloom Item declared at a time. Designate it by declaring in your BIO.
  6. Loot the Body!!! (optional): When a player character dies, and they consent, their party members can loot items from the dead character. This excludes the Heirloom Item designated in the dead character's BIO. It’s okay to resurrect the character so they can trade the items, but that character still counts as dead for the challenge and must leave the instance after the looting is complete. Your party may choose how to allocate the items.
Basically, if it's allowed in HC, it's allowed in UHL. If you have a question or are unsure about rules or guidelines, ask yourself "is this allowed in regular HC?" (i.e. soloing okay, dice rolls okay, tomes okay, no otto's boxes).

That's it. Pretty simple. There will be 3 goals to achieve this UHL. If your character reaches any of these goals you will be entered into the raffle to win a prize for that category. (if you achieve multiple goals, you will be entered into each raffle) you may only enter each raffle once since we’ll have limited prizes. There will be a separate thread in the forums where players can post screenshots showing the completion of a goal that will enter you into the raffle. We have not established what the prizes will be yet, but we’ll announce it here when we have an update.

Prize categories:
1,750 favor
Lvl 20
10 reaper points

PRIZES: For each category there's: a 1,000, 500, and two 100 DDO Store point code, and there's 4 winners per category. Plus: 20 lucky hat codes will be raffled off!

Remember:
Have FUN, be FRIENDLY and be FAIR. And enjoy the CHALLENGE!

OPTIONAL BONUS CHALLENGES (for fun, no bonus prizes):
  • Always run quests whose base levels are at least as high as your level(exception: devil assault): Character level must be no higher than the base level of the quest. E.g. If you are level 1, you run the level 1 quests you want on whatever difficulty you want in the compendium. N/H/E or Reaper (1-10). Try to challenge yourself (and your group if applicable). Level restrictions are quest level +0.
  • No ship buffs. Ships can be used for transport. Guild vendors are permitted, like the ones in House K.
  • Don’t use AH/ASE (Auction House/Auction Shard Exchange).
  • This One life to live rule also applies to Hirelings. If a hireling in your use dies, you can no longer summon that hireling. Make a note of this Hirelings death in your BIO and never summon the Hireling again because he's dead to you. This is a per character basis, but can be a per party basis if the party so chooses (meaning that if another party member's Frogo died in a previous quest, you also won't be able to summon Frogo).

If anything changes before the event goes live, I’ll post it here.

If you’d like to help organize/promote this event get in touch with me via forum DM.
If you'd like to make an official UHL league guild/guildship happen please let me know. As far as I know you can do it for free and guildees can contribute platinum to upgrade. I’d like it to have an official name like “Unofficial Hardcore League Summer 2024” or something like that.

If you’d like to join the UHL discord server for a place to congregate and talk about this event (voice & text channels) in addition to this forum posts threads the link is below.

https://discord.gg/dxaCbYNVKf

There will be polls/feedback options after this event to see if you’d like more events like this. I will also be making a forum post to assess interest in a PVP 3 parter event that I’ve been planning for quite some time.

Guild Info: So far we have two guilds already created for this event. An "Unofficial Hardcore League" guild, and "Dragon Claws Tavern". If you want to chat with others doing the UHL type /joinchannel UHL

If you're looking to join a guild there are many ways to join one. You can:

1. Message for an invite to a guild (specific or generic) in the /joinchannel UHL
2. Send a tell or mail in game to LunaroseUHL
3. Send a tell or mail in game to WartusksUHL (TheSmurffOfHardcore)

:giggle:

Love,
-Kozy <3 ?

I am surprised to see no store purchases in the rules. Might be fitting to not allow the game to profit on an event they did not organize.
We limited the rules based on feedback. But, encourage folks to make this as challenging for yourself and/or the group you are running with as much as possible.

I think it would be easy to cheat death. Just bind in a place that's out of the way so no one will see, and solo. No death announcements.
I can't think of anything that could solve this. There is no /death count or anything.

I agree. Even easier, in fact- someone who doesn't want to group *or* do the challenge could just lie and say they did it. Not sure what the point would be, though.

That said, I don't really care much. This is an unofficial, just-for-fun event with no winners. If someone feels compelled to lie about participating, it doesn't keep me from participating and having fun.

I like your outlook.

So many people care too much about what other people are doing, and lose focus on what should be important to them. Integrity is the way you see yourself. Hypocrisy is the antithesis and is the way other people see people that lack integrity.

If I have time I also join in the fun, July is just a tough month for me.

Why not creating a "Hardcore Guild" where all players can join which are willing to play. Here you will have a better overview about the players and leveling and so on. So if you like to play join the guild and find others and you will see also the progress of the characters.

We are offering a guild for the event. Any/all are welcome to join. Look for "Unofficial Hardcore League" guild on Wayfinder. Also, look at updates in the original thread post as well as players on Wayfinder with "UHL" on the end of their names.

Like I've been saying since we started the brainstorming sessions, K.I.S.S. principle and Fun, Friendly, Fair glued together with Challenge. That's what it's all about for this event.

Kozy/Trog, did you talk about setting up a forum post dedicated to describing how/when....I me IF......we die? Perhaps on the Discord, as the amount of posts might be a lot on the forums.

This sounds like fun.

If your character dies, just notify the Unofficial Hardcore League guild, or whatever other event guild you are running in. Be courteous to remove yourself from the guild or let a guild leader know to do so, so that there's room for your next toon, as well as others. Guild can hold up to 1,000 characters. It's sometimes a full-time job on regular HC just managing a guild, so anything you can do on your end as a guildy to ease that management burden helps.

Basically, if the toon dies:
1. See what you want to do in regards to the loot the body optional rule.
2. Set aside your Heirloom Item in the shared bank to pass to your successor/next event toon, if you so desire.
3. Notify the guild of your character's death, and courteously leave the guild.
4. Then roll up your next toon and re-join the guild and start your next life.
5. If you'd like to post a few lines or a paragraph (perhaps with a screenshot or linked video) of how your character died, feel free to on the Discord channel. I'll check with Kozy and see what options we have for a spot to do that. Keep eyes out on a follow-up on that.

There's no need to delete your toon after a death in the league. Just set it aside to run on Wayfinder as a regular alt. Wayfinder is a great server, with lots of friendly guilds and players, so feel free to keep the toon homed on Wayfinder for future events, raids, or just as a back-up/favor farmer.

If your character dies, just notify ...
...just as a back-up/favor farmer.

Troggy, I appreciate your long explanation, and feel a bit embarrassed when I say that the notification posts that I suggested would be for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY.

I just thought people would get a kick out of how people died.

But I REALLY appreciate your efforts on this post....I feel bad....

Yeah, I love the idea. Kind of a dead man's journal, last entry sort of thing.
