The portal for Myth Dannor in Gate Keepers Grove

Is it just me or is the Grove getting a bit crowded?

Many of us keep playing DDO for a variety or reasons. One reason is lore. I can't help but think that since Myth Drannor is in the Forgotten Realms maybe a caravan near Stormhorns or the Thunderpeaks would make more sense than throwing another portal in the gate keeppers grove. Myth Drannor isn't all that far from Cormyr if you look at the Forgotten Realms map.

I do get there is the whole thing with trying to get people to pay for direct access to the Forgotten Realms in the Hall of Heros. At this point though, Menace of the Underdark is well over 10 years old. It's time for the Daybreak Games employees to let that go. Anyone who was willing to buy it, owns It, and everyone else has a key to Eveningstar by now.

Why do you believe there isn't such a method of travel being developed already to go between Eveningstar and Myth Drannor?

It is very possible there is? There is a portal.to Ravenloft in Eveningstar. I get that.

The point that you missed is the lore aspect. Myth Drannor is in the Forgotten Realms. It should be accessible from the Forgotten Realms. The Gatekeepers Grove doesn't need to be a factor. It lessens the experience.

I think you already answered your own question. One does not go to Ravenloft via Eveningstar, nor House Jorasco, yet there those portals are.

So long as there is a way to reach certain locations "normally" (in this case, via Eveningstar), having alternative routes, doesn't mean it breaks lore. Especially when you consider the Gatekeepers have been trying to hide (protect) pages from the Tome of Infinite Planes.

And as they have attempted to done so, these portals have sprung up in the grove. Suggesting they are in over their heads, but portals to far flung places, wouldn't be an impossibility whilst they have those (artifact) pages on hand and trying to keep them from acting up on their own (badly).

The explore zone is 13(?) in the adventure compendium; assuming that's the quests' levels, then it is several levels lower than LoD>Estar chain. So it would make sense they need an alternative route out there for folks. And I doubt it'll be a direct teleport (on initial use), it'll probably be some pre-quest like the way IoD has an initial quest taking you to the island (or LoD>estar, or into the mists, etc.).

Um...read the second paragraph of the original post. Then finish off your night cap and get some sleep J1NG. What I am.wrting will make more sense to you in the morning hopefully.

"The excessive use of High magic and portals in the city, combined with the actual mythal itself, weakened the "planar fabric" of the region, granting easier access to other planes of existence and crystal spheres. Most notable among these were the Feywild, the lower planes,[28] the demiplane of Dread, along with the planet Krynn.[29]" - https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Myth_Drannor

Por que no los dos? Lore wise Myth Drannor already has portals going all over the place, so why not one in Eberron? You can't assume players bought other expansions, so you need to a way to get there from a free area. Through adding portals in the Feywild and Ravenloft could also work.

What will be interesting is the teleport item to Myth Drannor. Will it suffer from the same legal requirements as the key? If it doesn't, would SSG be allowed to add a path from Myth Drannor to Eveningstar?

Of course this also assumes that our Myth Drannor adventures happen in the same general time frame as our adventures in Eveningstar. If they don't then a time traveling portal makes more sense than a brisk walk down the road.

Myth Drannor belongs in ES.
Agreed.

They had a missed opportunity here to do a storyline to track the evil back to "a secret city" and then have the players solve the mystery. Eventually leading to Myth Drannor and once you find a path there you get a keepsake from Elminster letting you port there.

But instead, it's like "oh hey yeah just go to the place where you port to saltmarsh and the other expansions u bought! k thx bye!"

Who knows maybe they'll remove the portal before launch and make it cool.

I don't care for the grove in general. The Hall of Heroes was doing just fine, thank you. We really did not need yet another location to have to run to so we can go to yet another location.
It was OK when the Grove was Just Classic Modules and Mostly Greyhawk Stuff. Now its just silly. It's like when the Daybreak Games employees just want to do less effort, they toss it in the grove.

Or more likely, SSG doesn't want to hide the entrance to their latest shiny content from less familiar players.

I'd prefer an Estar entrance too and was surprised by the Grove. But from a game design perspective, putting the doorways to all your latest content in the same general place is a pretty common and sensible approach...

Oh, what a great adventure pack this would be! Imagine if everytime you played the quest(chain) it changed something in the now. With hidden and not so obvious effects sprinkled throughout. A subtle change to the weave of time. Oh, sure, we can see this doorway is now open, or this npc is approachable, but what about hidden ingredients or recipes? Maybe you're not even in the right (time/place) Marketplace anymore? How would you tell?

Maybe even such timetravel might taint a traveller somehow. Who knows just how different you might be after repeated adventures in the past/future? Perhaps some "change" could be unlocked, some progession or ability. Or something more nefarious...

Oh, to dream!

There's a lot of quests in the grove that I never do because I hate going to the grove.

When those quests were in hall of heroes, it was fine.

I'm not sure the dev's ever played pen and paper d&d, so maybe they don't know that Myth Dannor is in Forgotten Realms?

Either that or they just Forgot.

I've said it before, I'll now say it again: if the alternative is locking a level 13 expansion behind a level 15 quest chain that resets every life, having a portal in the Gatekeeper's Grove seems like a better option. (I'm certain they'll add another entrance in Eveningstar anyway, so if this really bothers you that much you can just use that instead.)

My lore may be rusty but isn't Saltmarsh in FR too??

Coz that's accessed from the Grove.

EDIT*: we've got WPM and ToEE in the Grove too, which aren't Ebberron quests either I think.

*Note to self: think more before typing. ??
