The Storm Horns is beautiful.

Did no one run The Anniversary Party quest this year?

I think just like the developers that Tonquin plays the game casually or every so often. (nothing on their profile or website(s) indicates they work for ssg again.)

But good to see you, and glad that you're doing well. Congrats on your achievements since the departure.

I stand corrected. Welcome back, Tonquin.

Another thing I absolutely love about the Storm Horns is how, even if you've ran it countless times, you might find something you've never seen before. It could either be a single, out of place troll with a horde of monsters, the elusive "Wounded Soldier" encounter (which I am yet to find), or the hidden shrines on a random, nearly inaccessible cliff. And the voice acting for the journals is amazing too, and I love it when you get to know the main antagonist of a questline before you actually meet them.
It's such a wonderful wilderness area, with amazing quests in it, too.

The unfortunate thing is, nearly all -- if not all -- the staff who worked on the Storm Horns is gone and no longer at SSG/DDO. They've sadly been replaced by people who have created zones like Myth Drannor and Lamordia.

Myth being beautiful in places, is very anti-player in its construction when it comes to traveling to quests. You can't get from A to B in a straight line without some kind of obstruction or elevation change requiring a detour. (This zone is very much a pot-killer, and I wouldn't doubt it's like that by design.)

Lamordia, while more direct and smaller, is just plain ugly. Even after being patched following its release it's still bland and unappealing.

Admittedly, there is a lot to do but I find the storm horns to be a stupid, annoying area.

You have run a gauntlet up a mountain side to register at TP location or pay asshards to bypass. Very annoying, but hey you only have to do it once per life. Meanwhile, you character gets beat up before running quests, some of which can be difficult to manage. There is no vendor that can repair, but hey you can always buy a statuette thing from the store.

Paying asshards to transport sends you to a quest. This is only one trip. If you have to exit the area, you need to pay again to get to another quest. Alternatively, you can TP to a quest and then backtrack to register at the TP point.

To ease the burden, you can prestage by running up hill to register before joining any group to actually run the quests.

Then there is always the backpack method of transport. Jumping and bear attacks are commonly recommended, as is self drowning.. These methods are handy until you are running a toon that has so many lives/buffs that auto heal/revive makes dying is nearly impossible even after stripping all gear.
Just take an invisibility pot and run to all the TP spots. It's not that difficult.

I enjoy Stormhorns, but its not my favorite. The atmosphere and thoroughness as well as the teleport to quest function when I just want to quest still... still makes Barovia -Ravenloft the hands down winner of wilderness zones. So, so... so very many screenshots out there.

For beauty I like Feywild, Saltmarsh, and Menechtarun... and the underutilized Red Fens and King's Forest. Don't forget Thunderholme and Underdark.

I'm starting to warm up to the story-filled journal locations but what I really would like to see is a combination of Land Mark Explorers and Journal Explorers with the land marks being the kind you just run through/near and the journals being a bit more difficult to find but filled with lore for immersion.

Wilderness zones are one of my favorite things in the game probably closely followed by the in-game narration, actually those are neck-and-neck for what keeps me coming back.

I keep wishing they would retire MotU to FtP, then they could add new adventure packs to the King's Forest, Underdark, Sschindylryn, and maybe *blech* Demonweb wilderness zones. I don't care for the last one. But I would love to see the side gates of Sschindylryn or other portals there open to new areas of the drow, new quests showing up in remote areas of the Underdark, and the King's Forest fill out with quest locations.

FYI: I have done that encounter.
