THE TORCHBEARERS

Water dripped steadily from the cracked stone above, each splash echoing through the ancient vault underneath the city of Stormreach. The only light came from a flickering torch held too close to a damp, half-burned map.

“This isn’t the path she marked,” grumbled Darrin Brasshill, the grizzled dwarven fighter squinting at the map as if it owed him coin.

“That’s because she lied,” answered the elven ranger, Liraen Duskwatch. Her voice low and even, eyes never leaving the darkness ahead. “I warned you, old friend. It was too good to be true.”

Then came the growl. Low, distant, rising from the ruin like something waking up, something ancient and starving.

“Well,” said Merrin Claywall, a human bard with a lopsided grin, humor his nervous tick of choice, “if this is a trap, at least we walked in together. That counts for something, doesn’t it?”

“Only if we walk out together again,”
Darrin muttered, resting a gauntleted hand on his axe.

Liraen narrowed her eyes.
“Get ready. Something’s moving.”

The torch sputtered... and the darkness came at them.

The Torchbearers are a loose fellowship of adventurers in Stormreach who frequent the Open Palm Inn within the House Jorasco Enclave. There are no oaths to swear or contracts to sign, only a simple promise to look out for one another amid the dangerous, shattered lands of Xen'drik...

Sounds like a lot of fun!

I'll be bringing my Wayfinder crew to Moonsea and definitely interested. Mikenna Law, drow fighter is definitely looking for people to help her set the world right.

My main is already spoken for guild-wise, but I might start a brand new toon with you guys for the fun of it. 👍
You're both most welcome!

Feel free to join the Discord as well, to keep track of this and that. ☺️

For the foreseeable future, we’ll be hosting a weekly RP night at the Open Palm Inn, every Sunday at 6pm GMT.

These are casual, drop-in gatherings open to anyone interested in roleplay - whether you’re curious, looking for a one-off, or hoping to get involved more regularly. You don’t need to be in the guild to join us.

The guild itself is growing slowly but steadily. One of our members has started an open storyline involving his cast of characters, so there are some fun threads beginning to unfold. That said, we’re still light on day-to-day questing or raiding as a guild. Most of our activity is centered around these RP events. If you’re looking for a good home for an RP-focused alt or you're a mostly solo or casual player who wants to hop in on RP, we're the perfect fit.

The Torchbearers are still around, gathering every Sunday at the Open Palm Inn, and doing some sporadic activity during the week! We're still a small guild, but the activity has been quite consistent and the roleplay is flowing. Good stuff all around.

Due to how things have developed in the roleplay, there's been a slight change in the concept, going from an organized Adventurers Guild to a loose network of adventurers watching each other's backs. We're always looking for more, and you're welcome whether you're an avid roleplayer looking to get back into it, someone new who's always been curious or anywhere in-between. ⚔️

New year, new adventures!
We've seen some growth, getting a couple of new members and are back to our regular schedule now that the holidays are over. Oh, and we've been around for half a year now! Wooh! 🥳

As we took a break during the holidays, one of our guildies suggested we write up some little stories about what our characters were up to during the Season of Long Shadows! So, some of us did that:

The last three days of Vult, leading into the new year, is called the Long Shadows. It’s said that the power of the Shadow, the sinister deity of the Dark Six, is at its height during these three nights. Careful people spend this time indoors with friends and light, but those who relish the darkness might decide to take to the streets to prey on the weak and foolish.

During the Long Shadows, the Open Palm Inn becomes a shelter for those who have nowhere else. While little is known about the halfling woman's past, it is clear she doesn't have any family or relatives in Stormreach and choose to ward off the Long Shadows with other unfortunates of the city. The days before are spent foraging and harvesting with the help of Brawn and whoever else volunteers, as well as purchasing goods from the Stoutfield farmers in the Cerulean Hills, to gather what they need for the feast.

Working together with a couple like-minded vassals of the Sovereign Host, representing Olladra, Boldrei and Arawai, food and shelter are provided to those that have none during these cold and long Vult nights. Hearty stews, tea to warm and mulled wine to lift spirits are prepared and served, and the scent of cinnamon, clove and sage linger in the walls of the inn for a week after...
Sheegwen spends the dark days of Vult with her neighbors: the farmers of the Cerulean Hills. She keeps a watchful eye out for lurking thugs, but most of their time is spent indoors, dining on simple but hearty meals and drinking home-brewed ale. Sheegwen sings uplifting songs and plays her flute for them. Together, they all praise a good year of harvest, pray for another, and try to keep the light alive during the Long Shadows.
Raevile almost forgets about the Long Shadows; most of her days are spent in the dark undercity, anyway. It is her raven companion, Drib, who reminds her after she notices a sudden increase in sinister, shadowy figures in the dark. Together, they manage to dispatch a few lone wolves, but avoid the larger packs of thugs. Raevile and Drib normally struggle through the Long Shadows on their own, but decide to seek out the Open Palm's hospitality--even if only for a little while, and some corner or closet would do just fine. Drib even offers his shiniest piece of trash as thanks.
As the dark nights approach and the streets become less crowded, with people choosing to stay safe and cozy indoors protecting themselves and their families, so does Eruzin realize that Falchus has no idea the of reasons behind this. The elf decides to take matters into her own hands, allowing Falchus to bring some of his light into the traditions of the Long Shadows. They spend their time in Eruzin's trinket-town of a home, with the elf giving Falchus a lecture on The Shadow, its followers, and the Dark Six, making the evening less cozy and more spooky, no doubt riling him up into a righteous quest to go help out those in need on the dark nights. She would, of course, have no choice but to join...

Ain't that sweet. Now back to the adventuring!
