The Ultimate Inquisitive Past Life Getter

When doing heroic lives, I used a similar build. Here's what I geared with. Feywild with a crafted con/fort item at L5 and L10. Rogue ring from Barovia at L10. Switch to Sharn at L15. Guidance to Ratkiller to Sharn xbow. If you're going epic, use Borderlands gear w/ either ethereal or Storm as weapon until L29 when you switch to Legendary Sharn based gear (or not).

Got most of the gear written up now, just missing some pieces for level 15 and then level 20. I keep trying to make a Saltmarsh level 20 set but giving up Wallwatch is just really hard to do (I hate gear tetris *sigh* oh well).

Finally managed to come up with something for level 20. It is by no means optimal but it should cover the vast majority of stats that are wanted. It should also be fairly easy to farm up and make since the epic Saltmarsh gear only needs the hay from the pack to upgrade the heroic items so shouldn't be too bad.

The setup means we get to keep the Wallwatch Set and introduce the Saltmarsh Set too which is quite nice for the extra boost in stats.

If anybody uses the gear setup for level 20 then please let know how it works for you and your experience with it. I will be trying to make it myself at some point.

Do Rogue 1st... maximize your skill points starting off.. go R, then 2 Arti, then your 10 PLs, then the rest Rogue

INT Build

STR - N/A
DEX - 10 if you have a good Tome
CON - MAX
INT - MAX (all level ups).
WIS - 8.
CHA - remaining points.

I've used this build for the last 21 lives or so - My favorite run so far was my 3 gnome lives. Something about a ******** pip squeak entering a room and killing everything that moves that pleases my delicate sense of justice- or just scratches my inner murder hobo - either way. same thing. Thanks Stoner81

With just 10 Dexterity even with a +8 tome you can't reach the 19 Dexterity needed for Improved Precise Shot. Also unless you use XP gems to reach level 3 what weapon do you use?

IPS is a wasted feat.. its easily outpaced by the available enhancement trees. Using Precise Shot is more then awesome. Besides... the entire point of an Inquise Build is maximizing the easiest accumulated DPS.. and INT makes that a done deal with Harper. A splash into Fay Illusionist for Greater Color Spray just makes it nicer.

The ONLY reason to put anything into DEX would be to get Combat Archery @ 21

This is my feat list:

12 & 15 are swappable because a number of classes won't give you the requirements in time to take IC:R @ 12

1 Point Blank Shot
3 Rapid Shot
6 Precise Shot
9 Quicken
12 Improved Critical: Ranged
15 Precision
18 Insightful Reflexes
21 Combat Archery
22 Holy Strike
24 Overwhelming Critical
25 Crush Weakness
27 Nimble Fingers
28 Doubleshot
30a Luck of Heroes
30b Scion of the Ethereal Plane
31 Legendary Aim

1-4 I stick with CC gear mixed with some of the grossly OP TKotB
@ 5 Fey
@8 Temple (this gear is just TOO damn sweet)
@12 Potluck just grab stuff that works
@16 Sharn
@20 University
@29 Sharn & Ravenloft
@32 University
@34 ???

I would like to add this. Get a RatCatcher.... use it from 8 to 20.
@ 20 Epic Storm.
@ 29 Hollowed Splinters
@ 32 The Anarchist's Crossbow (Abridged) (keep Splinter for the Bolt)

I would trade my left nut for a similarly powered LIGHT non-repeatable crossbow :( ... Inquis would give it an additional multiplier

Inquis is ideal for banging out past lives, I did almost 100 lives as some form of Inquis, you just need 1 good gear set to make it work.

[pointing upwards] "he's right you know"

But to be fair.. I have several sets as I listed above.. all ready to go & change into the second I hit the right level.

Hoping to make the level 20 gear set today (once I have gotten a ton of video conversions done but I digress), in the table I haven't included augments for the most part except for The Master's Gift in the belt (which lets be honest is the most important one :)), one in the armour and one in the neck slot.

A Topaz of Damage and a Topaz of Ranged Power are good options which probably should be slotted somewhere but beyond that feel free to use whatever you feel like. Once I actually make the gear I will look in to augments fully and post/edit what I have put in mine just to give some idea. I doubt it will be optimal but it might give you some ideas of things to look and point you in the right direction (or wrong direction xD).

Agree to disagree, I hate playing without it.

For you maybe.

Very few find IPS worth it any longer. Reducing damage by 20% is bad enough, but outside of being gnome or Halfling, you have a hard time getting an ideal line to make it worth it. If pin was not made an AOE shot, it might be worth a consideration on a smaller race, but getting that to work with IPS is much less ideal than Precise shot since AOE shots cannot pass through mobs at all.

IPS should have been made an AoE itself with no additional DEX requirement. Something that supplements Precise Shot at least. I could see it consuming all Archer Focus charges for a big AoE shot.

Well I do...

I stated that this build is not the meta nor is it designed for end game or whatever else. It's built to level and level as fast as possible, as easily as possible (each to their own on how to interpret that).

Pin is only available once in to epic levels until then having no sort of AoE is beyond painful on a ranged build. I hate it, I loathe and detest it. Once IPS arrives (for me) dungeon clear speed increases significantly. Period.

I have had multiple people ask me in game about the build and ask about IPS and I tell them all the same thing "level without it and then level with it and tell me it's not worth it" they all come back and say "I see your point".

I did indeed find this build fairly useful in mid reaper. I only run mid-reaper at cap, because I run R1 leveling. I also assume that most people have more reaper points (I had around 50) and more past lives (only 11 heroic) than I did when I ran this build. I have enough of the end gear, but I do not have HalIowed Splinters yet. I have also only run this build only once. I did not solo mid-reaper, I only ran in parties. I also did not lead the kill count, but I did not feel like dead weight. I ran this one as an alchemist. I did run a few quests as the group healer because we were in R10, I was not doing as much damage, I was the only healer, and I was the squishiest. I would be curious what someone might be comparing it to as they ask about the usefulness. I feel like reaper points, past lives, filigrees, set bonus, raid gear, and player skill all contribute very havily. I feel this build's strength lies not in end game DPS, but in leveling efficiency, and gear simplicity. I felt it leveld fast enough, that if you are curious as to how it plays at endgame, do a lap. Play some at end game and then decide how long you want to stay at cap collecting Reaper XP. But I am curious as to whether some can build a party around this build at cap.

From the elven ranger thread: https://forums.ddo.com/index.php?threads/analysis-of-the-elven-ranger.420/post-121850

Because of the way inquisitive fires, I found single-target epic strikes to be lackluster. It's hard to go from a high rate of fire to switching over and pressing a single button on a target that isn't a boss. I'd go for a ranged AOE strike, although even then, I'm not sure how often you are going to want to break your machine gun shooting routine. Pre-nerfs I actually like Carrion Swarm or Orchid Blossom. Now...not a ton of sexy options.

Sneak Attack dice are better unless you are pushing mid-30s to 40 imbues. But be warned, inquisitive doesn't carry over great into high-reaper. DPS falls off noticeably. The Alchemist version was the only one I felt I'd like to stick with.
