It sounds like you want people to play your very restrictive view of hardcore. Which is fine, its your event, but I'm not sure how appealing that is to the greater population. One of the reasons UE Myth Drannor was attractive to me was +3 racial tomes for HC. Other things that stand out - having a functional auction house and economy is a fantastic part of HC. Why would there be no economy here? The guests' thing doesn't hold water - HC enhances the auction it doesn't detract from it. No farming feels like a deal breaker too. It sounds like you don't like to farm items but many do. I see this really only working if you're playing with the same 6 people - then it would take on the module quality you are trying to capture. But what happens when someone dies? They aren't going to be able to play with that group anymore once you're past the first couple of levels. The idea of putting -50 favor on skipping quests is a bad idea. Half the population is going to die playing Saltmarsh on Elite at level 3.

Polls should start sometime tomorrow afternoon. The information gathered will help us cater the event to what people would like to play and experience the most. So far we've been brainstorming and chatting. So, after the polling is completed, we'll have better data on what we'll go with for the final rules, guidelines and themes for this community event. Get in those polls soon, as we don't plan to keep them up long, as we need to quickly gather data and move onto the final phase to set up sign-up sheets for those interested and/or committing to participate in the event. We're still aiming for a July 1st start time and a July 30th end date.

I think once we get the poll info, and start up with the sign up sheet, I'll have to step away from the event/project, simply because I don't have the time to do it. I barely have a couple of hours a week to play DDO, and sometimes not even that. I'm too busy with work and IRL stuff to really put on an event. I was just mainly trying to get some structure for it, and start the ball rolling so that the community could run with it. So hopefully, other people and some streamers will step up and take the baton. It's a community event after all, so let's see what the DDO community can do.

Ok the traction on this isnt looking so good now with the original organizer pulling out, we will keep a watch but our team just talked about it and it looks like we are out.

I'm not sure where Kozy is today. I was hoping to hear from her by noon or just afternoon, but it's 3 PM now. So, instead of polling I'm going to just post my finalized rules for the theme, challenge and flavor of what this event will be. Executive decisions will have to be made, I suppose. These are what seem like the most fair compromises and conditions to set up a unique event, so it'll have a seasonal flair to it (like each HC season does), but also address a lot of concerns people had about rules regarding solo play, group play, restrictions and such. If it was me, I'd restrict the mutha-fupping h*ll outta of this and go full permadeath PnP style. But it's not my event, it's the community's event, and I'm just here to get the ball rolling and pass it on to the community. Hopefully Kozybean and other community members can handle that once it goes live on July 1st and onward. I will try to check in on it as I can, but I honestly won't have much time to do that.

I'll post the rules, next.

The Rules and Guidelines for the Unofficial Hardcore Summer League 2024 are:

1. No ship buffs. The event ship will not be offering ship buffs, and event participants can not use any other guild's ship buffs. This is to keep this very challenging. Ships can be used for transport. Guild vendors are permitted, like the ones in House K.

2. Always run quests when you are the base level of the quest (if you are level 3, you run the level 3 quests in the compendium, any difficulty, N/H/E or Reaper (1-10). Try to challenge yourself and your group.

3. Start from scratch/level playing field: Don't use AH/ASE or items from alts in your bank. Use what you find in quests or what you can purchase and/or trade from any in game npc vendors, traders or brokers.

4. One life to live. If you die, you can't use that character any longer in the event, and must leave the event guild. You can leave 1 item to your successor/next event character as an Heirloom Item. A event character can only ever have 1 Heirloom Item. Designate it by declaring in your BIO. This One life to live rule also applies to Hirelings. If a hireling in your use dies, you can no longer summon that hireling. Make a note of this Hirelings death in your BIO and never summon the Hireling again because he's dead to you. This is a per character basis, but can be a per party basis if the party so chooses (meaning that if another party member's Frogo died in a previous quest, you also won't be able to summon Frogo).

5. Loot the Body!!! When a player character dies, party members can loot 1 item each (or a stack of items in the case of collectible bags, potions, scrolls, ammo, etc.) from the dead character. That is 1 item each, and excludes the Heirloom Item designated in the dead character's BIO. To do this, take the dead player character to a RESS shrine (it must be a RESS shrine and not raise dead or any other spell or ability to raise the dead party member). Once the character has been resurrected, they can link the items in party chat or list them in voice chat to the group. The surviving players in the party that are in the instance can then roll to set the order of looting, or they can just pick if in agreement. (Handle this like you would when putting up items for roll or trade when looting a raid chest, if you'd prefer, but still 1 item per character). A trade window is opened to pass the selected item to the 1st player, and this is then repeated for each player until every player permitted has looted 1 item. If looting a quiver or collectible bag, it must not be bound obviously. Unbound bags and quivers are considered 1 item, no matter the contents. Stacks are considered 1 item, not matter that stacks size. Only 1 slot can be moved from the dead body to the living character, thus keeping this limited to 1 item or 1 stack of items or 1 container of items moved. After the looting is finished, the dead player character must leave the instance and the event guild.

That's it. Pretty simple. No leaderboards, no achievements, as exploits could happen and we're going to avoid that like the plague. Any prizes given out will be for participation only, and be handled with RNG/randomizers to keep it fair.

Remember: Have FUN, be FRIENDLY and be FAIR. And enjoy the CHALLENGE!

Any changes to the rules are for Kozybean and the community event organizers to decide, before the event goes live.

The rules are posted. Sign-up and guild information for the event should be happening in the next few days, if you and your friends are interested. Thank you for your interests!

Thanks for taking this on. I am sure there will be ample pressure to allow "x, y, and z" requests but your K.I.S.S. principle should always apply. Hirelings? No. Lesser reincarnate? No. Solo? No. Tomes from buying previous pack? No. Auction House? No. DDO Store? LMFAOno. This? No. That? No. When you create your character you throw away everything that pops up in your inventory. Everything. Yes, even that thing... You start as a complete scrub and try and make your way in a violent world. You know? Hardcore...
Weird that soloing is less hardcore than playing in a group of 6. If you actually wanted it to be... hardcore.... you'd solo everything.

The point of this event, ideally is to socialize. That doesn't happen when solo. The idea is to bring the community together to play DDO together in group play (very much like tabletop D&D with friends), ideally, but not exclusively. It was inspired by hearing people so bummed about not having a HC this year and streamers not having that HC server to play with a lot of their viewers because they all home different servers. The hope is that this event can allow for these people to play DDO together, to give them an event to rally around towards that end. It's primary focus wasn't to cater to solo players, but isn't excluding them as well. If you want to solo the event, go for it. The rules won't force you to group. Enjoy!

P.S. Grouping can be just as hardcore as soloing, since you can't control what the players do around you. I recall a streamer dying to an exploding barrel one season because another in his party shot the barrel next to him. So sometimes soloing is easier, sometimes it's not. Just depends.

I've heard that it's a lot easier to solo because you don't have the worry of party members accidentally doing things that get you killed. I've seen that very true countless times. Slayer areas, dungeon alerts, harrying, explosions, traps getting triggered, etc. There's pros and cons, and challenges in both.

OH! Troggy isn't leaving the event at all! He's done his part. He's not the organizer he is the one that came up with the idea and he is collaborating with me and the community on it. I'm going to be finalizing everything and managing the prizes at the end and sign ups and everything.

We haven't started the traction on it yet since we needed feedback to make the structure for this first time never before event. Now we're going to see how many are interested now that we've taken a loooooooot of feedback, ideas, designs, and compiled a simple structure for the first event that seems to include what most people want. Simple rules, includes everyone, and chances to win prizes!
