I am currently Tanking on Thrane and I have a question for you, if you dont mind. How are you holding Threat in Relentless? Im running 1589% Threat when Im boosted, with a Dino Bone Weapon with Meltscale and Meltfang. I use a combination of Celestial Mandate, Throw the Boom, Intimidating Shout, and Intimidate. But there is always a ranged toon in R1 that is pulling the agro away from me briefly, before I can reacquire it. As afar as i am aware, I have squeezed every penny out of every tree I can. Any thoughts or suggestions?
yo, take a good read of the abilities "throw the boom" and "Knights Challenge".
they are a 2 edged sword, on one hand, ranged aggro getter, and honestly, that's all they should be used for, throw the boom for aoe, and knights challenge for single target, its lovely that knights challenge is so early in the tree, so off tanks can snag a single target from a kiter or away from a main tank.
The problem, they reset all the aggro, including your own. so, if you are face tanking a boss, and throw a boom, instead of just pressing intimidate and using your melee hits, you will lose aggro for a second or 2 almost every time until you can get back on the boss and press a normal intimidate or shout.
now on hard and r1 raids, if the dps is not running full threat reduction, aggro losses will happen, its not really that big of a deal, people die, whatever. use your shield throw to get the aggro back from the range dps that inevitably pulled the boss
so your facetank rotation should just be celestial mandate, block and cut, intimidate, consecration. each one on cooldown. lucky there are only 4 buttons to worry about, that you can just spam cause of all the other stuff you have to do on a tank, watch for ground stuff, watch for super high damage attacks to get out of the way of, do spell absorb swaps as needed, hit other buffs in their own situations. like fire shild scrolls for ToN and kormor belting the healers, using second wind and renew, other potions as needed, managing 10k and last stand to prevent wipes after the healer goes non responsive for several seconds, you get the drift.
shout is only really good on stuff that is immune to intimidate, (0 raid bosses, that's just a quest thing really.) but good if you need an emergency intimidate and intimidate is on cool-down. its got a 30 second cooldown, so its hard to use in a rotation.
and use the shield throw abilities to take aggro from a range, get that snot out of your standard rotation.
