Theory about lag…

I wonder if they shut down the new Mabar challenge if that would clear up the crippling lag/server performance? I don’t remember the last two runs of Mabar being this horrendous.

My theory is that people are zerging past mobs in the Mabar challenges to efficiently farm ingredients, thereby agroing everything and causing the server to path dozens of monsters at once. Multiply that by lots of people doing it and it seems like a great recipe for lag!

It would be interesting to see what happens if they turn Mabar off after the Weekly Wednesday restart (with the promise to extend it when it's brought back).

As to why it's worse than previous years? Maybe DDO got more new and returning players?

According to Cordovan per the official DIscord, SSG does not believe Night Revels is the cause of the issue:

"Too soon to know, we have several possibilities we are tracking down. So far it does not appear to be related to Night Revels, though we understand why some people are pointing to it since it's been a culprit in the past, but we'll see... The issue today appears to have been a cause outside of our control, possible some of the weekend issue was also leaning that way, but we'll see."

I am starting to see weird stuff beyond being locked in place for two minutes at a time. I did the fourth waterworks quest tonight -where you have to find Venn's corpse. The room with the circular blade trap has a valve that opens the next room. The valve was not there. Just a blank spot on the wall. I had to hope that Venn was somewhere else (fortunately he was). Yesterday, none of Scrag's dogs spawned. I had to recall and reset. The game is getting kind of broken...

Obviously, something else. There were weird lags over the weekend. Not just on a single server, but through all the game. Things kept degrading until the freeze that occurred this morning.

Btw, I let the dogs out yesterday morning. Woof, woof, woof woof!!!

No valve, no crest socket, no trap control panel, no keyhole, no floor puzzle panel... etc.

These are common bugs that have been happening for a long time, and they occur year-round, not just during Mabar.
Sometimes, moving far away and forcing a redraw can make them display correctly.

This was my theory too because I also do it XD. Don't remember it being this bad last year though.

That's a lot of words to say "We truly have no freaking clue."

It doesn't really matter to me why it's happening, I just want it fixed.

This is beyond just lag at this point.

Any mob spawn that first spawns unkillable then reverts to killable has a chance to not fully spawn as a killable entity, preventing quests from being able to be completed. Sahuagin jumping out of the water, skeletons emerging from the floor, wraiths rising up out of the ground etc - may not fully spawn the way they should.

Mobs stand still in hallways and take damage from anything you do to them.

Hirelings stand still in hallways. If you call the hireling to you, it just stands there where you teleported it to and does not follow.

I have seen players who entered a quest mounted still mounted in the quest.

Hirelings remain in the group when outside the quest.

People recalling out of quests after completion ending up outside the quest not fully shrined (no auto-shrine on completion + recall).

Teleporting to the wrong place at random. Told the airship guy to put me in the market. Got sent to the entrance to the vale in the twelve. I do not remember that being a place you can port to.

Took thousands of points of falling damage and died at a place where I should have maybe taken 20 and laughed it off.

Imo the biggest impact on lag had aggro system change , in old days mobs in quest reseted after few meters and we didn't aggro hole room when you entered , NOW mobs never resets ( or rather only at wilderness) and now when 1 mob see you they all see you + when you got reaper in room effect is increased. So imo change to aggro system when they wanted to nerf ivisibiliy ( added high listen?) + adding shared aggro system + reaper got at least high impact

But we will still get answer that it's all bc Twf is breaking game or Thf is breaking game or it's all bc caster crit or something else we all got that only to get nerf and not solve lag problem...

It does eventually reach a point where the lag is so bad I'll just log off instead of getting frustrated.

Hopefully it'll get better.

But never forget, Hope..... is not a strategy.

"We have no clue what is going on but we also think its not that".

Turn it off and lets find out.

According to Cordovan, this is not the reason.

My theory is that a bunch of scetchy individuals are intentionally inducing lag and they do this because... for reasons.
