There is no reason for the rare drops in MD to be as rare as they are

I agree, but these drop rates are still ass even if they didn't raise our expectations with insanely rare items beforehand, especially the ones that are of equivalent stat value to sets in the past (augments) and the way to make the new weapons not-sentient food (golden weapons).

Under-promise and over-deliver. Putting chase items (existent and non-existent) in front of players as targets is a mistake.

The end result may be the same for heavy grinders who will keep re-rolling chests until they scream but for most of us we'll just run the instances once and then go about our business.

I honestly have been surprised at how common the heavy grinders are who are willing to put in the shards. On Khyber I can think of close to 20 and that's only people I know of in the endgame population and Khyber isn't even in the same category of casual spending and whaling as Argo and Orien.

And that's probably why this change will be followed by a managerial speech to the dev team with a "its ok guys, tank it and walk it off. A couple angry messages don't hurt so bad when we get paid"

DDO should stop publishing item lists with each update.

Let the players find the items and then populate the Wiki(s) with what is found.
And a lot of people will stop buying xpacks when they come out as I've always done so far. Like it or not, for many people loot is a big part of the decision to buy a pack (especially for $100+)

In fact, I don't plan on buying the next expansion on the day it's released. I'll wait to see how it is, and only if it's worth it I'll buy it with cash (and we'll see what tier the expansion is). If the trend continues like now, I'll wait to buy it with points (grinded with trs--- not financial gain for SSG)

Well, a lot of us who have spent shards on rerolls haven't bought them from the store. For example, I trade all year long to get shards to use on stuff like this (or buy other stuff I or my close friends need).

Although I stopped rerolling as soon as I saw the scam that was the rare loot for this expansion (and I regret the wasted shards before that). Some people are less restrained.

I know, I also used trade-sourced shards at first and stopped when I was made aware of the ridiculous odds.

By doing those rerolls you are part of the problem not part of the solution.
I have not re-rolled since the second week of the expansion neither has most of my playgroup. But one of the people was late to the game and just spent all those shards re-rolling the last couple of weeks on their main account +5 other accounts and got nothing

Further I have cancelled my vip, went on strike for over 2 weeks, and have not spent a dime since then, nor do I intend to.

So when do finally drop they won't work? A lot of us go on lam, try the gear, and bug report all the things not working on it. Even then, some gear goes live with bugs still. Without that gear being put out there, it wouldn't be pretty.

Even if the gear came without any bugs, it's a terrible idea. The current gear design doesn't allow you to just pick an item you just loot and integrate it seamlessly into your gear. You have to design your sets beforehand, because adding an item means you've lost important stats that aren't in the new item you just selected. I wish it was as easy as looting a nice item and being able to integrate it into the gear!

No, end game is a pain to plan ahead to get all the stats right, and changing a single item immediately throws the whole set out of whack.

That romantic idea doesn't work in ddo, at least not in the end game of ddo. In heroics, where there are fewer stats to integrate and loot is less of a nightmare, seeing a nice item and being able to integrate it into your gear can work.

I think the point Brad was making was that people wouldn't get over-eager beforehand and targetfarm from the get go, but rather let people discover and then get that exciting "hey, i found this, add it to wiki" and later when everything has been discovered people can put those cool sets together over time.

=> No expectations and eager discovery and putting things together when things are released. No, you wouldn't simply slot something in and see if it works - but majority of the gear would be found and "wiki'd" in a week even if they didnt post them beforehand for people to start putting gear setups and the drop locations to achieve that together.

But rabidfox is also correct that if people didn't playtest and bugtest the gear half of it would have properties that don't work, when now we have items where only maybe 10% of them have properties that don't work or have disappearing properties like the magical efficiency of those goggles in MD or LGS debuffs that may or may not work depending on item and possibly weather and lunar phase at the time.

Maybe it is too naive and romantic. Ah, one can dream.

But that doesn't work, woq. The current loot design forces you to plan ahead. And what are you going to do, wait a year or two to be able to create a new set? For when there's another expansion released? SSG release a xpack per year. And honestly, if we didn't know the loot in advance before buying the expansion, SSG would be losing one of its biggest selling points.

The problem with MD is that the items they've put in the chase aren't worthy of being chase items. They're items that in the vast majority of cases have the same stats as existing loot and are needed to be able to close the sets.

Jibbers is a great chase item, and it's ok that it has a low drop. MD's rares don't deserve to be rares.

There are not words in the English language that can properly describe how insanely stupid this idea is.
When shroud first came out, there were no listed recipes. We ran shroud constantly, with all of our alts, stock piling ingredients until we had enough to make the shards for an item/weapon. The guy who won our guild lottery got to choose what he wanted to make. He thought Earth Wind and Fire would surely unlock the best weapon that could be made in the shroud. He received a piece of garbage and stopped playing while the rest of the guild got their turn making a weapon. I still have my level 8 triple earth maul. It's pretty good.

Spending dev money on items that no one farms because they don't know about them is maybe the worst suggestion I've ever heard, and you should see my friends.

We'd still spend the shards looking for Mythic/Reaper versions!

How does SSG not get this?
Totally agree.

I’ve mostly ignored MD, still have yet to complete a saga, had Ultimate since preorder. And given all the chatter about drop rates I haven’t bothered to redo gear Tetris for any of my builds.

I can say with complete confidence that I spent WAAAAY more real money on shard rerolls for Vecna. Both at launch (I think there was a loot boost or something cause I was pulling lots of reap boosted vecna stuff that then sat in my bank until I recently crunched it during an inventory purge), and then afterwards trying to get max Myth/reaps.

If you read my posts you have already lost
my current gearset could be better with a rare armor. I want it, but cant bring myself to farm it. last time I farmed a rare item I was 68 pulls (all triple reroll+pots) with no luck and that doesn't count others helping me...
