If you've been around a while, you will remember that (Not SSG, then Turbine) released DDO Unlimited. They wanted to include ways for people to get DDO points without paying money for them. It was a completely worthwhile goal for them, and laudable for them to do it. In addition to farming out favor, they initially allowed you to do those old predatory surveys that would give you DDO points when you finished them. If you've been around the internet for a while, you'll remember those things that keep asking for more and more private data, and then they don't even pay you out at the end, unless you order subscriptions.
None of this was Turbine's intention, of course... selling everyone's data out on predatory surveys in exchange for in game purchases. They got a lot of negative feedback about it, and they took it down. The entire thing lasted a week or two?
I just think it's important for SSG to get this feedback about rare items and rerolling, because I see it as SSG implementing some of mobile games most predatory gambling modes. I think people can be waaaay over the top talking about it here. There are mobile games were people drop entire paychecks, and have monthly budgets in the thousands, rerolling on character packs and the like. For the most part, people are complaining about dropping 30-60 dollars (while also having a time investiture of hours of their own time... a good thing in this context).
But I do think the feedback is important, because it's a good way to remind companies about the negative effects of those kinds of things downstream. When you let people gamble real money for fake items on a video game, it's easy for people to poo poo it that don't have those kinds of impulses. But there are people that do.
Just things to think about...
