To me the transfer process is confusing and the Devs should spell it out better

For instance "you have to pack before you transfer" .But you're tr cache doesnt transfer with you.

Then, if you want your tr cache to go with you (and who wouldnt?) you do a transfer through the transfer wizard (but then your shards dont go with you?? (I,ve never done a character transfer before, where is the transfer wizard???) But then your shards dont go with you??

What the heck is this stuff? They should spell out the exact steps for transferring a character with a tr cache, and then the exact steps for transerring a character without a tr cache. And I dont mean people here on the forums guessing on what to do. If the devs spell out the exact steps, then everything should go well. If they dont, then there will be mistakes and people will be mad.

In other words we empty the tr cache and use the pack command and you cant trust that your tr cache will transfer. Lovely.
The actual link with info from SSG shows:

The following items will NOT be contained within your character transfer data through the /transfer pack command:

  • Reincarnation Cache (Note: You can transfer through the Transfer Wizard with your Reincarnation Cache intact. You do not need to place your Cache into active inventory or storage prior to transfer.)

Ive transfered toons before with TR caches and it was no issue. If you are fearful than clean out your cache.

We can work on wording as needed, but you are confusing the Reincarnation Cache as something related to the Pack function, which it is not. You'll pack your character then transfer and unpack. Ultimately, that's the process: 1. Pack 2. Move 3. Unpack.

Will we need to do it for every character ?
Or just 1 character per server will be enough to save our AS, shared bank, etc. but all the other characters on the same server can be simply transferred without creating a pack ?
Yes, you will need to run the Pack function on every character you wish to transfer to a new 64-bit game world. Edit: Adding to state that the reason for this is because the Pack function does more then just accumulate your account-level data, it also gets your character ready to transfer.

very unfortunate wording on that.. maybe something like " the Reincarnation Cache" stays with the character during transfer.. keep it simple humans are stupid.

I mean this is pretty clear, but they can't really help it if humans are too stupid to read, ultimately they will just not read whatever else they write :p (I'm not calling you stupid, this was aimed at your humans are stupid comment)

I am also a tad confused so would like for some clarification, I want to transfer multiple characters from X server to new server, since they are all on the same origin server they all have the same shared bank, when I unpack the first one, does that populate the shared bank and only that first one I unpack? When I unpack future characters from the same origin server, does their data for shared bank overwrite the current one or get discarded? If I unpack characters from different origin servers that each have a shared bank that is populated, do both shared banks get transferred and combine on the new server or does only one of them take effect, or does one overwrite the other? And what happens if there is already stuff in the shared bank on the new server and I transfer with a character that has a full shared bank on their origin server? I am a hoarder so how my shared bank gets transferred, especially with multiple toons from multiple servers is a very important matter.

You can watch the Fridays at four stream for some more detail, but it sounds like you won't be able to move if it would overflow any of your shared banks. You'd have to empty out your shared bank to if there wasn't enough room.

There is going to be a lot of cleanup beforehand. We have about a month to get it done and I'm starting ASAP.

One thing that works heavily in my favor, and probably for many other people as well, is that on 5 servers I have shared storage that is essentially a placeholder for better gear that I have on 3 servers. 95% of that stuff is going to get crunched for shards/sentient XP or sold before I pack a given server (primary character) for transfer.

The only stuff that is going to be a royal PITA is the old Cannith Crafting shards, which I never cleaned up on several servers. That's just going to be a bunch of point and click delete is my guess. They can still be traded for Cannith essences but at such a low level it's not worthwhile to do and I've done nothing with modern Cannith Crafting on those servers.

Also I probably am in the top 10% in terms of simple 1st life characters with no tomes or other investment and those toons are going to get crunched for sure except for the Wayfinder toons.

If you are that worried, empty your TR cache and shared bank account then pack your toons and transfer.

Its what I will do on all my toons across all the servers.

Cordo & co really need to write up a detailed FAQ covering what happens under all the various contingencies, and post it authoritatively in every public space available. The main page. The game launcher. Several different sections of the subforums. Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky, make a new page on the Wiki. Hell, send out a mass in-game mail to every character just to give that extra chance that people see it. Change the text of every banker and barkeep in the game to mention it.

There's no such thing as too much information with this. Nothing should be vague. Nothing should be unclear. Go through every post in the announcement thread and write an answer to every question that is being asked, because if questions are being asked then your explanation wasn't good enough.

They really need to do a screen by screen tutorial of the process to limit errors.

Or a straight forward Q & A / FAQ with step by step for a guild leader and step by step for the rest of us.

Including details on how shared banks work when coming from multiple 32 bit servers to a single 64 bit server.

Maybe next week someone can volunteer to compile questions for SSG to respond to.
