To Remove Weapon Effect (Defiled Weaponry)

I have one of these defiled Vecna weapons,

I'm trying to remove this ugly black/shadow thing that oscillates around it.

I tried to remove it through the weapon cosmetic thing twice with weapon aura removal but no go. Is it possible to completely remove that icky black stuff around it?

If that is part of the weapon graphic, I imagine all you can do is apply a cosmetic to completely change its appearance. But I could be wrong.

I fixed it.

Took like 500 DDO points of experimenting, but there’s a trick to completely removing the weapon graphics.

I can do things others can't...
In my past experience, removal of the effect usually entails:

1. Getting a Weapon Glamer (via a Mirror)
2. Putting "any" Weapon Aura Glamer onto it (can be the perma ones as well)
3. Get a Weapon Aura Glamer from the store.
4. Remove the Weapon Aura from the Glamered item.
5. Relog.
6. Item should be without effect now.

Ooh I did not know this. So this can remove any visual? Can you then put on custom visuals, or will that restore the baseline?

I haven't tested with all visuals, but most of them from what I tried.

If you're worried about a particular one, I can go test it for you first (just hope it's not some super rare item though :p ), but I'll need to finish my transfers first as still going through it here and everything is split all over the place.

Haha that would be awesome. No I'm not worried about a particular item atm, but I appreciate the offer.

I did have a couple of immediate curiosities - one was Eviscerating Expenses. Back before I got Chaosblade, I wanted a blade of this shape, but with the darkfire aura. However, I was disappointed at my inability to remove the purple sparkles from the handle. Definitely curious if this method could be used for this and what it would look like, although I don't really need it anymore.

The next was more interesting - what of items that may have "only effects"? Like. I'm thinking about sort of mono-textured items, like blades made of flame or shadow. I believe you or someone else once demo'd a flameblade with a weapon aura on top of it, and it was incredibly bright, very cool.

Unfortunately, I have just tried this out right now. The sparkles is from a different effect that is attached to the Transmuted Platinum effect and that isn't changed when applying a Weapon Aura to it, so removal wouldn't work either. To be certain, I just tried it and can confirm that it wouldn't be able to remove the sparkle effect, just any exiting Aura/Aura like effect on the weapon that you might have applied already to it. Sorry I don't have better news on this part.

Yes I captured the short video of it and it was basically with one of the other Coffer Weapon Aura effects on it (think it was the Necro Aura one I believe), but I didn't try to remove the base effect, as from what I can tell, that's an actual texture that's running, so unlikely to be removable. However, I haven't actually tried to do so and can give it a go later and there are some other items that closely resemble that and those might be removeable, so will see what can be done about them. But for now, assume that you can not remove the flame from the flameblade.

In the mean time, enjoy this prior made for May 4th (but was too busy IRL to post) vid where I removed something else... :p

Honestly thank you for performing this research.

Also the May 4th video was frickin awesome lol.

Edit: Would you be able to tell me how you achieved that effect? 0.0 (maybe DM?). All good if not!
