Tokens of the twelve

In everyones opinion. Is it easier to just accumulate fragments and tokens to get true hearts or just buy it from the store?

I would never buy one from the store; it's quite easy to get them via tokens. You can naturally get a ton by just leveling to cap and fill in any extras needed with a LFM asking people to pass.

edit: and if you run a couple iconic lives, you can build up a nice surplus of tokens as you won't use them for the reincarnations with those lives.

It´s of course "easier" to buy them.
But it´s also fairly easy to just farm them. Most epic lvl 20 quests give a full token in the end chest and every mob has a chance to drop fragments.

This, also both LoD and BoB can be done in under 5 minutes and drop a token per run on elite. Do both 7 times before reincarnate takes less than an hour and nets 14 tokens, way more if you get people to pass you some.

It all depends on what you want to spend your resources on. It's easy enough to farm up 20 tokens in an hour or two of game time. If you put up an LFM for Epic Devil's Assault and ask people that don't need tokens to pass them you can easily get 20 in a few runs. If you're doing an Epic reincarnation before you do your heroic reincarnation (and I think you should) you can accumulate 20+ tokens while leveling up to 30.

But for people whose time is more important to them and who have the ability to spend a little money there's nothing wrong with just buying your hearts of wood in the DDO Store. After all, it's sales that keep the lights on.

If you're playing on Elite or Reaper, you shouldn't have much trouble getting enough tokens per life, unless you're skipping most of the content that drops them.

If you're playing on Normal or Hard, you will get far fewer fragments and probably won't get enough tokens without repeating quests even if you run every single eligible quest.

This all assumes you're planning to go to 30 and get an Epic Reincarnation done as well. If you're planning to TR as soon as you hit 20, then it's up to you whether it's worth wasting xp/time by farming or not.

The explicit list of token content, taken from the wiki here:

edit: you can also convert Cannith Challenge ingredients into tokens

I'm with Rabidfox, I never buy hearts, it's easy to get tokens.

Besides BOB and LOD as Dunspartacus says, it's easy to get groups for OOB, Wiz King, everything Von....

Or you can do Devil assault, let the people pike and give you their tokens.

I am with Laxuli and Rabidfox, I never buy hearts either. I find it more efficient to accumulate reaper xp at cap, I always stay at cap for a little bit. I will stay long enough for a raid night and some quests. I found myself left out in the cold one raid might, so I was encouraged to keep at least one of my chatacters at cap. I have one character with 17 lives, and two with 3. Depending on what I feel like running, I have a pretty good stockpile of tokens, greater tokens, commendations of valor, and heart seeds. I have never felt the need to farm any of them. I am assuming it is a bit different if I was trying to be on the fast tr train. I am also not VIP. I still have a couple races and iconics that I do not own. I feel my ddo points are better spent on races, content, and bank space. If I was VIP, had points burn, and on the tr priority train, I could see a situation when purchasing tokens would be more reasonable. I feel it is good evidence of DDO's versatility we can all be rolling d20s in quests with different builds and motivations and still be having fun. I have spent DDO points on Legendary raid timers because that is what the plan was and I did not have a character off timer. I want to be with the group and part of the fun. If everyone is getting on the TR train and you don't have enough tokens, by all means spend the ddo points. I spend the points for experiences not on cosmetic items or mounts.

I have a capped alch for farming. 1 ransack of VON3 gets you 20 tokens(or awfully close) That being said, I would not say no to a couple more quest chains offering those tokens. I can't remember the last time I bought a heart.

In a guild: Tell guildies you need tokens and everyone spends an hour piking in devil assault while you complete it on normal and they pass you all the tokens.

Without a guild: Start a pug saying you need tokens and everyone spends an hour piking in devil assault while you complete it on normal and they pass you all the tokens.

Can do the same with any of the fast quests (Lord of Dust is popular).

For point of reference, back in the great before times, there were very few quests and 2 or 3 hours of play time might net you 2 or 3 tokens. It was very common for people to need a week at cap collecting tokens before they could TR.

Like everyone else says, buying a heart is only worth it if you don't have a few hours to invest in playing the game.

I think the best way to approach past lives is to go 1-30, then ER, then TR.
Try to make sure to get tokens on your way to 30.

Although, I certainly have just wanted to get credit for a life and gone ahead and bought tokens at lvl 20.
