I actually like them all (about to go into my favorite, Tormented. Yeah, I'm that guy) but it is super annoying to just sit on your thumbs for five minutes. They finally got in fixed in Delera so hopefully they can do this one too.

What do you mean by timing of the gates? I haven't noticed a problem with the quest (run it about 50 times so far as it is part of my usual life rotation). What seems to be the trouble?

To progress past the gates you need to do two things: flip the levers with the gears, and kill all the mobs. Flipping the levers is no problem but there is a horrendous delay in the second gate dropping so you can go kill the mobs on the other side. I have not timed it but it was no joke when I said earlier that Judge Judy reamed out a plaintiff for several minutes. Finally it drops, you kill all the mobs on the other side and move on. The same happens with the second gate. Flip the levers but one side (I think it is always the left) takes about five minutes to retract. One of the Delera quests used to act similarly where there was a long delay after killing the last mob. They finally fixed that in the last year.

The gate waits five minutes (if memory serves) only if the mobs on that side don't get killed.

It didn't used to open at all if memory serves, and if people on one side died it was a quest fail. This was WAY before cheesing the levers with pets or hires was possible.

I would run that quest every life if they fixed the gates. I will never run it if they dont

This has been low hanging fruit for years and I don't understand why someone doesnt schedule one man-hour to someone to fix it

Because it's working as the devs want it to. You don't like it, that doesn't mean it's broken.

People complain incessantly about the Necro quests, but each and every one of them has some mechanic in them that's not 'kill mobs, open door and kill more mobs'. Some are frustrating (I'm looking at you hard to find friggin runes) but they aren't linear hallways with doors that are locked until all the mobs are dead.

I wish they would make more quests with innovative progress mechanics, and fewer that were simple DPS checks. Most of the newer quests people complain about I find entertaining.

But can we please get the timing on the gates corrected?
Got it done with actual player on other side, after a few 'trial runs.' Yes, please. Us Casual Players cannot do it with hires anymore; clearly the intent.

Except this isn't actually a non-combat progress element like solving a puzzle or finding items or having rock for scissors. It's just sitting there doing nothing for 5 mins. You can't avoid it by skill, preparation, or even luck

There's no argument for it as a justifiable design, intended or not

Edit: To avoid misunderstandings, we need more people who like Tormented so they can help the rest of us poor souls through it each life.

If you are just soloing 'Tomb of the Forbidden', with a single Hire for the semi-synchronised "lever pulling" function. They probably won't kill everything on their side; it is 3-minutes wait for the first Gate set, and 5-minutes wait for the second Gate set. Under those conditions, i.e. if the mobs are still alive on either side.

Sync. LOLOL it's a pass-through (X2) and the timer is VERY short. super user? ROFLMAO Have you ran it recently? I did last week with another player. The timer is very short. Never did get a hire (wiki walkthru) to do it.. except once, a long time ago got the lever n then waited.. 30 minutes for nothing.. recalled. The first gate used to open after ..10 minutes?
